If you'll include rotation of your forearm as well and keep wrist relaxed you'll get Bryan Sutton's technique

Great video you learn a lot even for experienced players like myself. What year is your HD-28V?

I've been feeling like my reliance wrist movement has plateaued my speed. But every time I try to pick with more arm movement vs wrist movement I feel like I have to re-learn everything lol. it feels really unnatural. I'll have to go back to these basic exercises. Thanks for the video!

It will only feel unnatural for 3 days

Somebody pointed out to me that my wrist is as "loose" or flex as much as some other pickers, as if it needed improving. Now I don't feel so bad! My arm rarely gets tired picking fast, either.

Doc Watson's technique worked for him but seriously it was not at all the most efficient technique. Remember he was blind so he didn't have the advantage of seeing how others played. I don't think I have ever seen any other really great guitar player play without having and using a very relaxed and loose wrist. Just saying.

Agreed. I think Bryan Sutton strikes a great balance. Very loose wrist, but he also uses his forearm, which to be fair is kinda what’s being done in this video (e.g. 4:10)
