    2 cents. I've been playing awhile and have been retraining myself on float method (with just a little part of my palm anchored on the bridge (fingers tucked)). I feel my crosspicking (free stroke) has become quicker, smoother and more accurate. I'll also note, I play a D-28 dreadnaught strung with 12's and paly with a heavy 1.0 mm pick. An excellent example is to watch Molly Tuttle play 'White Freightliner Blues".

    Awesome video! I've been playing Lester Flat style for about 40 years (thumb pick and one finger pick) and just now gave in to the urge to learn flat picking. So far you're the best at describing the basics! Thanks.

    Great lesson for a beginner. Thank you. Many guitar lessons online are skipping over these techniques. Anchoring has really helped me pick the right string.

    Great clip. I'm a longtime player really exploring the RH. I'm searching for clips with alternate picking exercises for chords.

    Great video. I’m a finger style player and need to get much better at alternate flat picking and strumming and this really helped we visualize exactly what I need to work on. Tks much....”Play on”!

    This video was very helpful! Thank you! I've been playing guitar for quite a long time. I'm decent, but my strengths are in fingerpicking and single note blues etc. I've always struggled with strumming. At least the ability to strum without it sounding and feeling "mechanical". I'm left handed, but I learned from my father and learned to play the guitar right handed. I'm pretty sure this is the reason, or at least it plays a significant part. I've always been (and always will be) on that quest to be able to successfully strum and gallop across the strings in bluegrass fashion or of the Johnny Cash type style. And not being able to is very frustrating. I know a lot of my problem is moving my elbow too much, not using my wrist enough. But if I force myself to just use my wrist it's very "down.up.down.up" choppy. None of it feels natural, where fingerpicking feels very natural. Not sure if this makes any sense. So as I said, I'm always on that quest and this here video (as well as the others) is very helpful.

    Good accurate info man! I've been working on floating all the time because I don't anchor when playing rhythm so trying not to when picking. Great sounding guitar you have! :)

    how do you mute unwanted string vibration when playing just behind the sound hole? Can't palm mute there right, can't you?

    Which way does the wrist move when picking single notes? Is it up and down, or like a swivel motion with your forearm rotating?

    • @alan4sure
      @alan4sure 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No rotation. Imagine you're pushing the pick through the string. Jake Workman advice.

      Santa Cruz. On some of their Guitars, They place their SCGC (Santa Cruz Guitar Co.) stylized logo on the fretboard between the 11th and 12th frets.

    My left hand is chronically late to notes. If there is anything to teach besides practice with a metronome, I'd love to see you address that.

      Practice slowly. You will observe so many things and also your mistakes.When you feel comfortable, then increase speed bit by bit.

    • @TheoRoot-yq9jd
      @TheoRoot-yq9jd ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I solved that some by keeping my fingers crossed to the frets. I think it's not that their last but they're not synchronized. Lol 2 years later you're probably a smokin picker
