  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 27 มี.ค. 2018
  • Today, I am cooking up some spare ribs but making an experiment with Coca-Cola. My nephew Angel loves Coke so it only made sense to make this. The ribs turned out an expected results. This was a fun experiment that I hope you enjoy it.
    HOW TO COOK/SMOKE COCA-COLA RIBS
    I SMOKED it for 2hrs @ (275°F / 135°C)
    Cooked in coke for 2hrs @ (450°F / 232°C)
Brushed with Coca-Cola Butter Sauce and back to the KJ @450 for 15 min.
    * INGREDIENTS * I used for this sous vide cook.

The squeeze butter is common in rib cooking. The way it breaks down in heat adds better moisture than real butter. The Coca Cola (Dr Pepper where I'm from) adds a sweetness and stickiness. Not common in competitions but not unheard of for home cooks.

    • @GugaFoods
      @GugaFoods  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I used to work at a restaurant called The Depot in Dobson, NC. Their ribs are undoubtedly the best I have ever had. The restaurant is known for their ribs, and I actually met/served Richard Petty one night. They used a Coca-Cola bbq sauce for their ribs, and that’s definitely what made them so good. Try making a bbq sauce with Coca-Cola as an ingredient. You won’t be disappointed.

Guga, my grandmother used to parboil the ribs in the Coke, then finish them on the grill. They were always fantastic and I stole that recipe from her.
But... I found out a way to turn the dial to 11 from that. A couple of local breweries make their own root beer! HOLY CRAP! Marinate, then cook them partially in the root beer, then finish on the grill/smoker. Make root beer BBQ sauce and those ribs are off the charts!

Hey Guga, love the videos and I am glad you made some smoked coke ribs. We have been smoking pork and beef with coke for years. However we soak/marinate the meat in coke overnight, 8 hours for ribs and brisket, more for pork shoulder and other large pieces. Take it out of the coke, dry it off, rub it down, and let it rest while I get the smoker ready to go. I am going to try your method, but I would love to see a comparison video between ribs made with just your rub, your rub and coke, and marinated overnight with coke. Keep up the amazing cooking!

My mum cooks chicken with Coke Cola, and reduces it down into a dark colored thick, sweet and sticky sauce. The chicken is cooked for a good while so it falls of the bone, and when she served it it was simple, Bed of rice, some of the sauce over the rice, chicken on top of that finish with splash more of that sticky sauce.
It was honestly to die for. She used to call it Hong Kong Chicken.

I suppose the Phosphoric acid in Coke tenderized the meat considerably.

Not especially crazy. People have been doing this for years, it's pretty common. You can just buy Coke and Dr Pepper barbecue sauces also.

We use butter and brown sugar as well during the Texas Crutch phase, but recently switched from honey to homemade raspberry jalapeño sauce. We'll try coke, someday....

Good, Amazing, Delicious. I think they are different adjectives that doesn’t really fall in a same spectrum. You could literally use all 3 together to describe the food.

Have you tried marinating your steaks and ribs in coke before you season and cook them? It's supposed to make the meat super tender

Suggestion for a future video. Which method is better? If, first wrapping the pork/baby back ribs with foil then cooking over the barbeque OR first cooking the ribs and THEN wrap with foil?

I've searched far and wide for squeezable butter. It does not exist.
Only margarine and margarine like products are available in squeeze form.
