Thank you Dave! I hit a small animal the other day and have been struggling with this exact thing for a few days (the noise it makes is awful) my dad lives interstate and your video is the first one that popped up and you were the dad I needed when my dad couldn't be here haha!!
Yep, it gives a huuge satisfaction to complete such a project by yourself. Thanks for the video. I'm going to put some deadening foam on my front fender liners.
Watching your video made me realize that there are others out there with the same frustrations of trying to insert those damned clips and fasteners the way they should be. I cursed the darn thing out and just walked away, but I'll be back another day, and like you, will just improvise it to stay in place! I realized why I never wanted to be an auto mechanic, if I were, I'd be the most cussing mechanic the shop ever saw!!!!!
LOL I definitely understand!! What gets me is those clips are so subtly different for no apparent reason, just this kind here and that kind there! Argh!!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggled with this. I used an after market liner that didn't quite line up so I had to drill some custom holes and some of the fasteners I used were different than what was originally in there.
It's so frustrating that a job like this can be as big or bigger a struggle than some "real" car break-fix projects *because* of three or four different and/or hard-to-find fasteners or clips that break easily or require four ballet moves to hold in place and get secured!!! So frustrating!! Thanks for watching!
I also have a 2013 Corolla and got in a similar accident where the front fender liner and splash shield were stripped from my car. Me and my friend w a workshop are trying to fix it diy, and this video helped a lot. My worry was getting some of those retainer clips replaced
I'm about to do the same for my 2007 yaris hatchback who's driver side liner fell off but managed to salvage it almost entirely intact. You've given me idea about how frustrating it might be to DIY and I'm not nearly as well equipped as you....but thanks it was very informative watching
@@drohait1 Hey I'm glad you enjoyed it. Anything that might be frustrating is just a chance to learn so I'm all in, even if I get over my head a bit at times!! Go for it if you want! Thanks!!
Absolutely!! That's the only way I got past it. Realizing that one screw really should have been one of those square grommets tells me that liner had been replaced or removed before.... Thanks for watching!
Right now I'm replacing my inner well on a 09 Venza and have the same problem with a special looking fastner and don't know how I'm going get it removed! Why do these companies do this instead of just putting the same fasteners all around instead of a special one that drives you nuts.
If you go to a Toyota dealership the parts guy can print out a detailed view of the inner liner and all the fasteners that you will need! I've do this with most things I replace on all my Toyota's so I don't get frustrated looking or breaking the fasteners. You have to think ahead so you don't blow a fuse! Ahahaha
I almost didn't publish this video, because it seemed like such a simple job that went just silly. But that just happens sometimes!! Thanks for watching!
I just bought a bulk package of them from Amazon. There are so many its nearly impossible to keep track of all of them. 50Pcs Lexus Toyota Clips and One... www.amazon.com/dp/B072MDX94N?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Best way to remove and save the clips is to cut the liner so you can reach behind the clips.. they can only be removed without braking them from the back...
My son just had a fender bender with his 2010 Corolla and I thought maybe we could replace the headlamp and the shredded liner…. Not very confident now….especially since things are not lined up as a result of the fender bender.
I found a whole variety of clips, threaded fasteners, connectors and the like on Amazon. The typical box offers a variety that fit several manufacturers vehicles, but if you drill around a bit you can find Toyota-specific ones.
I got it from CarParts.com if memory serves but they had a terrible shipping screw up and ended up sending me THREE, so I have extra. If you need one and are sure that's the right year/model etc I would love to get rid of one.
Dave, Thanks for the detailed video. My Son recently torn up his right side liner as well. I ordered one and the shipping company lost it. If you still have the spare one I would be interested.
You could help me a bit if you were able to include a link for the fastners. Or what to ask for specifically at Autozone. It is obviously all about the fastners and that is the hardest part to find information on cost and source. Thanks so much!
The fender liner clip p/n is 90467-07166 (that's the push pin version). You can get them in bulk from Amazon and a lot cheaper than AutoZone assuming they even have them.
I'm not sure, Trust; I suspect it would be very similar; however, 2014 was the first year in a design change for the Corolla so it could be substantially different. Thanks for watching!
I knew this was gonna suck once i saw it was a 28 min video. i shake my head in disgust as we in the 21st century still have to spend an inordinate amount of time on a f'en fasteners. my 2005 Lexus IS250 took the cake though, 5 different size "trees" and these really stupid clips that cost 25 dollars holding the bumpers up. supposed to be "easy" for modifications. it wasnt.
I finally gave up and bought a bunch of varying sizes of clips and snaps off Amazon. There's no rhyme or reason why they use this kind in one place but another five inches away. You get to a point where if it is holding the thing in place, that kinda has to be good enough.
@@DIYDaveOK o for sure. when i started i was all Gun HO and was dropping serious cash wanting to keep everything as it should be because i told myself they are "there for a reason". Now as an older more experienced man post-lexus my go to is zip ties and clippers, period. im wondering what to use here though as it looks like zip ties arnt going to work in a few places? i had an accident and the clips are all gone.
Thank you Dave!

Thank you so much for uploading! 🙏 I found it very helpful to see how challenging it is to replace one of these. Your daughter is lucky to have you 😊

About to tackle this and replace the front bumper on a 2017. Thanks for the vid. I'll get the clips ahead of time, with the liner and bumper cover.

Great job Dave, a body shop would charge an outrageous price to do this job.
Thanks, Mike!!
Thanks for showing the details! This just happened to us, so thank you for showing the way.
Glad it was helpful!
I need to change mine. Thanks for the part number
I got behind that last screw by ripping the plastic out by hand lol. Made it a lot easier without the plastic there. Brute force for the win!

They should have a chart with the retainers and clips shown where to place it would make this work a lot easier with all the different fasteners!

Yeah I noticed mine was missing a year after purchase. After seeing this I plan on just leaving it as it is.

Can you link which clips you used? My liner came off because I hit a curb 😢. I want to change it myself, and am confused about which clips to get

Passenger side in this case. Thanks for watching!
Just use a 8 or 10mm socket box behind those square clips..pops right out
