Our spring pompano run is gradually heating up and I'm fishing our annual pomp stomp tournament. I am meeting up with Dusty Hayes and attempting to get some quality fish to weigh in!

This had to be one of your best Pompano videos ever! Never heard you grunt so much. I’m too old for fishing like this. Fantastic video! A knee replacement, rotator cuff surgeries, and three spinal operations can limit your mobility but I still do it whenever I can.

Recently transplanted to Pensacola Beach from Mexico and surf fished yesterday for the first time. Caught my 1st Pomp actually two 13.5 and a 16 incher. Watching your videos it made the learning curve of pomp fishing a breeze. Hope to see you on the beach.

When I started coming to Florida a few years ago, my first pompano was a monster 17incher. Caught on a orange and silver tinsel fly I tied on a red number 6 hook. It was tied a few inches behind a bucktail that was getting short strikes, so I added the tinsel fly.

Question: if bigger sand fleas catch bigger pompanos, wouldn’t bigger Fishbites pieces do the same? Maybe double pieces on one hook?
I do this sometimes. I think with the Fishbites it’s more scent than anything. But the presentation with a float helps make the bait look bigger.

I was pompano fishing for spring break this year and was using standard pompano rigs with fishbites and shrimps with a 3 or 4 oz weight and was casting between the two sandbars and I could only catch one fish. Any tips beach bum fans?
If you were there the same week I was, Mother Nature was your foe - a cold front, neap tide and no wave action
Yeah it was very cold and windy, and know one else was catching anything do you think next year if it is better weather i will catch more?
Is there a neap tide every year at that time or does it change
@@alex_bones5764 There is a neap tide every month - there are lots of apps that show the tidal flows (I've already told my wife that our next trip will be planed around the tide) Ryan, at Lost Bay Tackle, suggested Little Lagoon - the tide isn't as big of a factor. Next year? As far as pompano go - and if you believe what Larry Finch preaches - the big factor is water temperature. They migrate based on water temp and this year it stayed cooler longer. (When I was there, the water temp was 63 and the pomp like water closer to 70) Another thing - and I'm sure the other folks will weigh in on this - you need to cast to the front or the back of the sandbars. The fish are looking for what the waves uncover in the sand and it's the crashing waves that stir the sand. In between is where you have a better shot at red and black drum - but I'm no expert. Watch some of the stuff posted by Larry Finch and Rich Vidulich

Got a 20.5in pomp off the gulf state park pier with a Tsunami holographic spilt tail swim bait last week...... was a stud 🎣 locals looking like😲😲😲😲😲

Lol that’s one thing about surf fishing, you’ll be talking to someone about 30 yards from your setups and in the middle of the conversation you just freak out and start running towards your poles 😂 The people are probably thinking what’s going on?
I did that yesterday at the point, however while running to my pole I about fell down.

It gets tough keeping up with comments sometimes. Sorry. I have 4 10’ surf rods with 5000 size reels. 2 Star Stellars, 1 H20 Xpress, 1 Offshore Angler. 3 Penn Battle 2s and 1 Penn Spinfisher. All loaded with 20lb powerpro super slick braid.
