Ni ce on the limit. Got 3 today but the tide started dropping and the fish moved out past the out side bar which is impossible to cast over. Going to head to a spot an hour north where we'll have high tide around 8pm instead of 4pm so should limit out hopefully. Luckily all the pomps were nice fish between 13 and 16 to the fork. The lady fish where a real pain today. They can tangle up arig like no other fish.

Since I only use mono on vintage reels I rarely use braided line. Is it the braided line that is so noisy when you are reeling in? I’m still nagging you about getting your reels serviced!

Man, be soooo careful going out barefoot like that. Over at the Point, by the fort, I found out the hard way about that. A Stingray got me and it cost me part of my left foot. There have been some really nasty mutations of some of the bacteria in the Gulf after the oil spill. The people at Thomas Hospital freaked out over my case.

I’m getting ready to hit the beach soon and I need to spool up 2 reels. What is the most diverse color line or should I do 2 different colors? I’m going to be using braided line

Maybe it's just me, but, if tangled lines are a problem, why not move them further apart? It did not seem that the distance to the rod was a concern, considering you were caught casting a jig on a sandbar! Twice! And, it did not seem to be very crowded!

Damn. Every day I was there the waves were between 4-7 feet. Looks like frosted glass now.
Damn! 4 to 7 foot surf on the west coast for days on end? That should make it really easy to find the deep holes and the rips between sandbars which should make it easy to find the right spots. We've had NE winds blowing 15 to 25 mph for over a week and only 2 to 4 foot surf breaking on the outside bar. Sounds like you didn't do to well so hopefully better luck next time.

How long does the spring run usually last? God willing, my family and I will be down May 26/June 2. My 14 y/o son and I usually spend our time fishing. I’ve caught pompano in Aug. and Josh caught some smalls in July. But heard the spring runs great. Would love to get some and or flounder. Great catch and God bless.

Tide16nc still will have pompano in the surf. But yes on the kings and Spanish. We will also have speckled trout on the beaches. I don’t know how much saltwater gear is available to you in Birmingham so I’m not sure if it’d be better there or not.
Bama Beach Bum - There’s a good bit at Bass Pro. I’ll definitely come by the tackle store there though. Haven’t been to Gulf Shores area in a few yrs. we’ve gone to PC, Fl last three yrs. Hope I run into one of locals, Harley. He taught me a lot down there about 15 yrs ago. We have a friend with a place down there who still see him all the time. I’ve fished and caught about everything thing there. Last year we did come down to Dolphin Island. We did well on sheepshead. But as many different species I’ve fished and caught, I’ve still never landed a Cobia or Spec. I’ve hung Cobia, I don’t think I’ve ever hooked a spec though. Crazy, being as plentiful as they are down there. I’ll keep my eyes open for your videos and what’s running. Maybe my boy and I’ll run into slinging a rod. Buffs or gators. People call them both. They are at most bait and tackle shops. I got a couple of mine from academy.

HOLL is right. It’s the easiest time of year just to catch fish. Pomp rig with shrimp and Fishbites will keep you busy all day.

you must mean Cocoa Beach, Cocoa isn't on the ocean and is west of the Indian and Banana rivers. 20 " isn't rare however isn't common on the space coast.

That’s how you pompano fish/surf fish from the beach. It’s just the style and acceptable for the tourney.

HOLL Fishing my issue is the waves are way stronger over here and the current rips most days. Some days I use 6 oz. Sputnik weights and they don't stay stuck
Yes it’s a lot of the same tactics. And I’m sure it is rougher most days. When that happens it’s tough to bottom fish but you can throw heavy jigs and spoons those days and usually have a lot of fun.

It is where we were 30 years ago.And I have probably caught more fish than you may ever hope to. But like this chap, I made all those mistakes myself once.
