    That show was so damn good, from top to bottom. The writing, the plots, the character arcs, and the acting. Not just the leads, though. That show was made great by the endless revolving door of episode actors. That perp in this scene was just fantastic. The industry is full of great actors who were worthy of more than their one off roles.

    It's a pity Kim Delaney does get much high-profile work anymore. Admittedly, she's had a problem with alcohol in the past, but it has never much affected her work. Many male performers have notorious, ongoing affairs with the bottle and drugs, but those are soon forgotten. Her performances were very effective many times.

    Any reason why Danny should have his job saved? It's so strange watching this sequence of events on the show. He beats a suspect and nearly blows the case, yet the audience is supposed to be cheering for him to keep his job. Why? Cops who behave this way lose their job for a reason, several in fact.

    • @fascinatingtome
      @fascinatingtome ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because this was how Bill Clark (ex-NYPD detective, NYPD Blue advisor) used to do things (as a highly decorated cop): if the guy's guilty and needs a beating to give it up - so be it. This was thought to be a moral position, as opposed to giving out beatings when you weren't sure the suspect was guilty or not. In addition, NYPD Blue also had moments, like the character of Det. Vince Gotelli, who in one episode beat up a guy who turned out not to be guilty (it was played for laughs, with Vince repeatedly saying "I beat his balls off!"), and Sipowicz et al made sure he wasn't punished for it.

      Fancy is still angry that a black guy got the crap beat out of him in his squad, and that ultimately the end result of Andy fixing it is that Danny gets away with it. Fancy is torn between loyalty to his guys, in this case Danny, and doing the right thing when he sees someone get beat, especially a black guy, and mixed in with that is the knowledge that the guy who got beat was a murderer who probably deserved a bit of it.
      So yeah, I think do what you want is reasonable under the circumstances.

      Plus, Fancy and Andy hated each other.

    Lost in this amazing scene by a world class actor in a top notch show is the absurdity of Christianity - celebrating a human sacrifice, its immoral principle of vicarious redemption and the honoring the of this insanity by ritually pretending to "eat" the body of the deceased and "drink" his blood. Christianity is without question the most pathological and most evil cult ever invented by humans. The delusion that there is a god watching over who decides, periodically, to step in is pathetic and embarrassing.
