David Salle's work seems somewhat derived from James Rosenquist and Jasper Johns, but Salle appropriates more: every thing, every style. It's all grist for his mill. This is the essence of postmodernism where the center is everywhere, and all at once. Cosmology has arrived at this same position. Has anyone here looked at the photos of the Pillars of Creation in the Horsehead Nebulae taken by Hubble and compared them to the photos of the same thing taken by James Webb? It's shocking, even the stars are now full of stars.
I don't think 'masterpiece' is a useless word.. It's just a term from another craft culture, in which apprenticeships were served, and had to be broken out of.
I didn't like any of his work shown here - I had never heard of him before except reading he curated a show that I saw on youtube, it was mostly awful - I thought.
It's embarrassing that you guys call this art.. Good music is hard to find nowadays and art..We'll art is basically gone if people think this is art.Its really sad what we've become,we settle for garbage.

I would imagine the word masterpiece is a conceit that only came about when art became a commodity with the advent of galleries and museums.
To be a good artist you have to look back at the great artists of the past .
