Looks like the passage of the PAST Act ends the practice of "soring" includes ban on use of chains, blocks, caustic chemicals, placement of screws in their hooves as that's a part of the "practice " of soring.😢🤬 💔
Bummed that it does not take effect until Jan 2025 but still so GRATEFUL that it ends SOON!
Way to go Tawnee ... your hard work, tenacity and love for equines is starting to benefit equines in this country!
Now to get the SAVE act passed ... stopping equines from being shipped from the US to Mexico and Canada for SLAUGHTER! PLEASE contact your representatives in Congress and your Senator(s).
We have to keep the pressure up to get this across the finish line too!

Heartbreaking indeed. These poor animals that are left to suffer by humans with no conscience... I will never ever understand. I am so very thankful that through the buy-out program, those in need of immediate treatment or the last act of kindness receive the care that they need ASAP and are not shipped off to yet another auction and forced to continue suffering. Thank God for HPHS, their very successful buy-out program, and their wonderful staff so dedicated to the difficult work that they do!! God bless you everyone! 💗

And a lot of times, abused and neglected horses come from the Amish because they don’t believe in taking them to the vet because it’s a worldly thing. Amish horses are highly abused and the government can’t / won’t
      Address it

    • @HughLlewellyn
      @HughLlewellyn 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@MeadowsMiniFarm I'm utterly sickened by the Amish. Something needs to be done about their cultural abuses. They shouldn't be able to hide their abuses behind their religious status, but there aren't enough trained officers available to enforce cruelty and neglect laws in most rural counties. I think countless thousands of horses and mules suffer mostly from lack of funding in the counties the Amish live in. It's not just them, of course, but obviously when you have one population that consistantly pumps out thousands of broken animals every year, it's an identifiable problem that should be targeted, but is being ignored by elected officials.

I had a 3 1/2 month old filly that was playing and did a quick turn and her hind foot had gotten stuck in deep sand which kept her foot from turning. She broke her femur and I had to make the decision to give her the Last Act of Kindness. It broke my family's heart and it took a long time for me to get over it.
When I saw the number of equines that came in with fractured legs, especially the sweet donkey, it broke my heart and I knew I did the right thing for my filly. She only suffered a short time and those animals suffered for months.
I love you guys. You're the best thing for those suffering animals. I wish I could donate, but I am retired and living month to month.
    Gob Bless all of you.

I know how you feel I have had to do it for my dogs and cat. Nothing as bad as the choice you had to make on such a young animal.
They had been elderly and in pain, except the cat was only 6 she was riddled with cancer. Vet opened her up, no chance. It is still heart breaking even if they are old. 3 of them I'd had had since they were puppies all rescue dogs. 1 dog was one month off 18 years, I'd hope he would make it to his birthday. The cat since 6 weeks old.

It always hurts. I had to have my first Border Collie put to sleep just before her 12th birthday. My second Border Collie died of a broken heart after my mother died. I’m a rancher and I raise goats, horses and chickens and they’re family, it hurts a lot, but the love they give while they are with you makes it all worth it.

I noticed that you guys were ordering food online from Walmart I don't know if you're aware of this or not but where I'm at in Ohio our local Walmart supports the slaughter pipeline by buying ground meat from Mexico and selling it in the store I would just be real careful about that store smh. It's like a little slice of life with each buyout. We have to accept that not every animal can be saved. But at least the vets and staff can give provide a safe, painless and comfortable end for those who need it. In a way I'm am more grateful for the end-of-life care than I am for the meds and support for those who need a little care and will be fine. Having worked in non-profit for years, I know that everyone wants to support the wonderful, happy programs, but no one wants to pay for the toilet paper or cleaning supplies. They are both equally important.

  • @gotchagee3315
    @gotchagee3315 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

It must be so much better getting horses through the buyout program. Not only do they come directly to your shelter, but you do not have to travel 2 hours away, wait for auction to begin, pay for hotels, gas, pay commission to the auction house, and hope you have enough trailers or hire more trailers for transport if you buy more than expected at the auction house. This is only some of the benefits. I'm not even going to include the fatigue on the members of the team that are involved. Your vets have all the equipment they need right on site. No more packing. Most of all you guys are saving a lot more lives by eliminating the costs involved going to the auctions by doing it this way instead. I love that the auction semis are starting to go to your shelter instead of going to the auction itself. Saves the drivers cost and wait time as well. Great job!

Thank you for your compassion and your knowledge and your willingness to tough through the hard days, the crazy days, the understaffed and under-equipped days, and those uncooperative entities who don't help to make things easier.
Also thanks to all of the followers who do give a little or a lot--what they are able, to help HPHS's cause. Even if you have not a dime to donate, liking, commenting, sharing, calling your representatives' offices and helping to get HPHS's name and mission out there via whatever socials you may have is worth its weight in gold, too. It takes a village, and HPHS's village in all its facets is awesome.

There is treatment for epm! Last yr, a babe, 2 yrs old, was treated w a full recovery. It was also from possum feces.💔🐎🙏🙏😪

    • @dreamcatcher3861
      @dreamcatcher3861 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

Hi Krista, there is treatment but it depends on how bad the case is. If this is EPM, it’s a very severe case to have affected this poor boy’s facial muscles. When EPM spreads to the face like that, it can rarely be reversed, not to mention the horse can’t eat because it can’t pick up its food, swallow or chew properly. This would result in a very slow death, which would be horrendous.
If you’re talking about Oliver who had EPM, it was caught very early and only affected his back legs. He was extremely lucky to receive treatment when he did and even luckier to make a full recovery.
I pray this boy can be treated but, with a heavy heart, I doubt it. It’s heartbreaking that these beautiful animals don’t get the correct treatment from their owners as soon as it manifests. The owner probably saw the start of the disease, dumped him into an auction and he’s been bouncing around sales or feed lots ever since. It’s just awful and unforgivable.

Are you referring to Oliver, the Clydesdale? If so, they caught it early in him---AND, there were also thousands of people praying for his healing too.

May the Lord just bless and be with and comfort the staff and the vets that have to Deal with. I just commend these individuals working at this facility they have such huge hearts and it can't be easy to deal with the sadness yes there's good times but when you love animals to the extent that obviously each person at this organization does and that I do it's not easy to deal with this and being on the front lines of animal rescue where these animals are such innocent beautiful animals being treated in such horrific ways by some very cruel and evil people I just command and thank each person that donates and that supports this organization and all the staff that work in incredibly incredibly difficult but rewarding job thank you❤

I recently read that there is a medication for EPDM that is one shot I think for one month. In another vet location I know it was expensive but it did appear to work on the horse.

Wow the condition of some of these horses/donkeys had me in tears how people can let them be in such pain for so long just blows my mind. My heart goes out to HPHS staff it must be so hard seeing such terrible abuse and having to make those hard decisions that the previous owners should have done. No animal should suffer needlessly.

I hope that those people who complain about videos not being up, watch this and understand where the priority lies. Short staffed combined with such complex and catastrophic cases aswell as no imaging equipment means that posting the video out really comes last. I'm sorry that hphs also has to deal with over entitled viewers too.

Thankyou for saving the lives of these people horses , ponies , donkies and mules. And all the other critters big and small that you rescue.
The amount of the rescues that you save witb serious health and bone breaks and other issues like joinr fluid leaks
    Makes me want to cry.
Anx it also angers me so much.
10 days minimum that the beautiful little baby jenny had her leg like that makes me sick
And the fact the owners / caretakers said to you oh well its been like that for 10 days. And they haven't called a Vet to give that poor sweet animal the last act of kindness makes me fuming angry.
    And the downed horses.
Poor mare with the liver issues.
    Heart rate of 92.
She must be wondering why shes feeling so bad. And why someone didnt already help her over the other side.
The 30 yr old with the bad feet and sawhorse moving. I cant imagine how hard it is for him to even take a single step without being in agony.
Hes such a old man. They should have done something to end his suffering a long time ago.
Cause that issue dosent start overnight.
Breaks my heart that people still try go make a few last dollars out of a horse so hurt and having so many serious issues.
Yeah I know its pure greed.
I have just loat my 32 yr old Mule , Lady Jacq.... Jackie for short.
She was a rescue from a farm where owners overworked her and barely fed her. And rarely had her hooves done.
I rescued her when she was 19.
I loved and cherished every day with her that i had.
We went camping. We went on long walks with her. After we had her issues delt with ... We found out she was naturally a sweer kind Girl.
She loved hugs and kisses my sons gave her. And the hugs my wife and i gave her.
She loved banans , cocnut and apples.
    Hated Carrots.
Lived for the summer when we took her to swim at the beachs.
First one to greet you in the morning.
Last one to make sure you heard her say goodnight.
She passed in her sleep in a deep bedded stall. She had deep bed for the past 5 yrs. And it had taken us 3 yrs to get her to sleep inside the barn.
She hadnt ever had somewhere warm and comfortable to sleep in before.
And even then you had to leave her loosebox door open cause she would get scared. So we closed the barn doors and at night she had run of rhe barn.
And she would check each of the other horses before they went out in the morning.
My horses loved her. They shared their food with her. Slept in the pasture around her. And Toro my old gelding would make sure she was ok everyday. And rhey were best friends.

I saw the initial video that Jason did, so l put my hand in front of the screen when that poor sweet jenny with the broken leg came out as l couldn't watch that again..but l still cried.. then when Dr. Lydia got upset with that poor downed mare..30 yrs old and just left to rot, then sell her to get a last few dollars..and the poor horse that was dragged off the trailier which had been down a long time with end stage liver disease..the horse with the broken hip..FFS PEOPLE..SHAME ON THE OWNERS of these horses..they should have had thr last act of kindness months or even a yr ago..and they STILL sold them to slaughter ..because they knew nobody else would buy them..I'm disgusted by these people and oh god please make sure they get their comeuppance for what they have done to these beautiful animals..as for Mathias..if he has epm there is a drug which helps..l watch another chanel..Homestead Horsemanship and they rescued a Clydsdale with epm..he had l think 3 months of treatment and has made a full recovery..l know its expensive but surely worth a try ?..Thank you all for your hard work..when the staff get upset..you know they are truly disgusted and upset at the cruelty and neglect these horses/donkeys have suffered..it must be so hard to see it on a regular basis..and still keep going in the face of human cruelty..Thank you..🇬🇧💕🙏✝️👍👏😢😢🐎🐎🫏🫏🫏🐎🐎🦢🇺🇸
