The only thing missing on your video is the aroma of the wood as you are turning! A friend of mine was a turner, I used to watch him as he worked in his shed. One year I went with him to pick up a trunk from the New Forest in Hampshire, when we returned it being a bank holiday the mill was closed so we decided to cut it on the garage. So to say thank you he made me a standard lamp that I still have today it's in front of me as I'm writing. He took me to the shop where his articles are sold to buy a shade. I would love to have done some turning, I'm ninty now so its definitely a no go! You have a goal for each day now that you are on your own, so God bless Phil and continue to enjoy each day of turning. God bless you bring us sooooooo much pleasure! 😎🙏🇬🇧😅

Woodturning is an art performed in may different ways, with many different finishes and different looks in the end result. However, I think the one thing that turners have most in common, we turn wood because we enjoy it, not because of a right or wrong way of doing things. You turn beautiful and unique pieces of art. Never let any negative comment occupy time that is meant for enjoyment. Wonderful work as always.

Great piece once again, Phil. I had to smile when you mentioned the viewer push-back comment on taking the nub off, why would you not do what you do, it is far more fun to turn it off. So a thought there, I think most of us turn firstly for the fun of it and others also get to sell some of what they do. Stay at it, Phil, I think the vast majority of us like your "Shady Acres Style." Keep well and stay safe.

Typed a comment about the commentator who didn't like how you took the nub off. Erased it because I heard my mother's voice say, if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all. I'm almost 69, she passed away almost 18 years ago, but while I can't remember where I put something 5 minutes ago, I remember those words heard innumerable times growing up! 😉💕

My Mom still keeps telling me that, she is 87 now, and thank goodness I convinced her to stay inside and stop gardening this week. It was 100 degrees around her house in central Minnesota. Thankfully, I didn't end up quite as stubborn as her. I love every one of the pieces you've made from this wood, every one is cracked, and yet still holds together just fine. I just turned a knot of cherry on an oak dowel, and it looks just like a big eyeball. I think I may dye the oak in the center and enhance the illusion. Keep on making cool stuff, Phil, and I will keep watching!

This is my first comment on any video I've see on TH-cam. I just don't bother. I never really watched it because I thought it was just music and movies.
But I was unwell recently and I've found a wealth of beautiful videos of people like you doing amazing things with wood.
I only wanted to say that I love the way you take the little nub off at the end of the proces!!
If you took it off and had to rest it on it's side on a workbench to use an "ordinary" chisel you might damage the rim or maybe even crack the bowl god forbid!!
Besides I love the anticipation of seeing the nubby thing come off your way.
I am learning so much about all the different trees and processes that are involved in making a wooden bowl.
Thank you sincerely for letting us share your woody adventures 😃😍

I think this might just be the most cracked piece of Cherry Plum that I have seen you turn Phil & am surprised how well it held together. That CA glue you use must be such good stuff as it has held many so many wood turnings for you & many other turners. Again this is a tremendous project. As for cleaning up the base on the lathe I think your method is the best & most efficient way to remove the nub. The final piece is a credit to you as is your ever memorable commentary, I love I love the way you 'tell yourself off at times as you work. Another lovely piece that is a credit to you, I love the bark sections & I don't mind the cracks. The finish too is so, so suitable to the finished piece. Cheers from Don from South Aust.

“It's quicker, it's easier…” and besides, Tuffy likes watching you turn off the nub. So do I 😊

Wonderful that's my favorite I think until I catch the next one. You the man Phil. I can imagine me or anyone saying why don't you do it this way because I don't want to ha ha. Keep plugging along I'm amazed by all of it. Do you give most of your bowls and things to your kids and wife I bet they all fight over them.love it man
