I wonder Apple would call the entire AI thing “Apple Intelligence” across their ecosystem. To differentiate from competitor, the same as “spatial computing” as a new term instead of vr/ar headset.
This would be such a good way for them to differentiate themselves and would perfectly fall in line with their marketing jargon (dynamic island, pro motion, etc.) it would surprise me if they didn’t.

Rumors are that the 16 series phones will have a sizable bump in neural cores, and will probably have a couple AI features exclusive to them. Whether those will be Siri related or not, who knows. But all the other Siri AI features should come to the other iPhones since Siri relies on Apple’s servers to function anyways.
On the iPad, I am most interest in a calculator app. A terminal app would also be nice, then I could use it for serious software development, Swift Playgrounds doesn't count.
It won't be big. Every iOS release is like this. You get a bunch of hype right up to the day of the event...and then a lot of disappointment after the event. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I will be.
I never saw any hype for recent iOS updates. Only iOS 7 and 10. I follow macrumors and 9to5 and this is basically the first iOS hype I saw in 7 years if not ever.
I want more personal iMessage features, like wallpapers on a / user basis, custom bubble colors, and they would sync, and we can each choose what we want, and it would sync the decision to the other person, making RCS feel like SMS on iOS. Apples gotta do something to differentiate or iOS users would switch to Android.

You shouldn't be surprised. They've been tinkering with stuff for a while and just straight up buying a multitude of AI companies. I don't know how good it will be I'm comparison to the competition, but I think siri will certainly be much better than it is now. If they can get it as good as Google assistant that will be impressive. I expect first iteration will be about as good, but maybe a little worse.

*THIS* is why I will get an iPhone 16 Plus. Unlike the iPhone 15 Plus, the iPhone 16 Plus will use the same generation Apple SoC as the iPhone 16 Pro models, though of course with less CPU and GPU cores. The functionality of the iPhone 16 Plus will allow my phone to use the rumored AI features of the improved Siri.
I just upgraded to a 15PM from an XS, I sincerely hope there aren’t any really cool features exclusive to the 16s… Don’t make me regret my purchase, Apple!

I dont doubt that apple is working on something with AI back at the lab because its obviously becoming more integrated into daily use/lives. But will it be ready by September, highly doubt it. *IF* (big if) apple does unveil ai focused ios18 at wwdc, it probably wont be available on day 1. They will probably release it in an 18.1 or 18.2 update whatever time later. It just seems so improbable that apple who hasnt even made a competent virtual assistant, suddenly be swinging by September with a fully working and amazing ai support that validates why theyre “not concerned” with other ai systems.
Catering to the fickle tech enthusiast crowd has never really been Apple’s mo, so hopefully if they’re overhauling the UI it’s with usability and performance in mind and not just change for the sake of it. Generative ai isn’t going to be the make or break feature honestly. I don’t see a world where apple could make it work without breaking privacy and copyright laws. Like, if I was a good enough artist and drew a perfectly on model screenshot like rendering of an animated show by say disney, how is Apple’s version of generative ai going to not only distinguish between the two but do so without breaking Disney’s trust and scraping official sources of their shows and movies for the response? In addition, what is stopping my own photo library that could contain screenshots from training the ai without Disney’s permission or even Apple being aware that the screenshots are not up for scrapping? Beyond that, what’s stopping someone from working around any restrictions apple puts into place to either train the ai or generate a response? Everyone got bored pretty quickly with their shinny gpt toys but even with apple’s massive ever growing user base, I honestly do not think that even they can properly navigate the minefield of legal issues generative ai poses without serious restrictions or hiring Disney’s entire legal team to take their own on a team building retreat and come back as a mutated voltron like lawyer machine that can shoot briefcases from its hands and fire objection speech bubbles from its mouth. I could be proven wrong and wouldn’t mind that but I just don’t think this is going to lead to something that will be what people are expecting. Especially if we ever get lawmakers that know what generative ai is and does then potentially looks into legislation against the more legal iffy areas of it.
