For years, the BMW M3 and M4 has ruled the fast super sedan segment and while those cars have built a strong reputation among enthusiast, it didn't stop Lexus from wanting to steal sales away from its German rivals. It all started in 2008 with the IS F, but Lexus followed that up in 2015 with the #LexusRCF, it had a fire breathing naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 with nearly 500 HP paired to a quick shifting 8-speed transmission. Unfortunately, for #Lexus the car was deemed too heavy for the segment. For 2020, #Lexus is looking to address the weight problem with the #RCFTrackEdition, trimming nearly 400 pounds of weight and add 5 more HP under the hood. Lexus will only build 50 of them this year so if you want one, you had better act fast. #RCF #LexusRCFTrackEdition

People complain about the weight, and while it's not the fastest car, it's still plenty fast enough for most people. Personally, I don't need a racecar. Great design, build quality, and reliability make it worthwhile.

Agree, it’s definitely more power than you could ever use daily driving on the street, without getting a ticket at least. They need to keep some weight. Personally and for most people that is actually where this car wins. The BMW and Mercedes can win in performance all they want, but I don't care because at the end of the day the Lexus is a solid built *LUXURY* car which means no road noise, no stiff bumps, and solid machine on the road in general. That nice solid weight is exactly what I like over the BMW. Remember it is a Luxury car still with some nice *PLENTY* enough power.

4200 lbs? Standard 2019 RCF weighs 3958 lbs with carbon fiber/TVD trim. Ridiculous to add a full 200 lbs to it. The 2020 RCF with carbon weighs less than 3900 lbs. Not 4200 lbs. Difference is 177 lbs between a pre-2019 RCF and RCF track edition. Even a GSF does not weigh 4200 lbs. Please state the stats correct. GSF weighs 4030 lbs and the LC500 weighs 4320 lbs according to Lexus specs. RCF track edition is 3780 lbs. RCF did plenty well against the M4 in 2015 when race car driver Randy Pobst ran only 3/10ths apart back to back. No one would cross shop an RCF and LC500 since RCF is more leaning towards sporty, high performance driving while LC500 leans more towards luxury and grand tourer.

The reason for the steering wheel to not be automatic is actually for safety reasons. With the automatic tilt steering wheel it doesn’t move in a full frontal crash. With the manual it moves and doesn’t smash the driver if god forbid a high full frontal crash occurs.

All those AMGs are probably in the junkyard or out of warranty sitting in garage. This car has been in the market since 2015. And the powertrain is literally 16 years old technology, and still the car is an ultimate GT machine also a Track car. RC F will be gone in 2025 then people will bitch and moan. Also once 2UR dies off the brand Lexus will be dead. Plus the engine sound is motorsport type and not the stupid wetfart style. Just get a basic RC F instead of TE because here you lose TVD, you lose the ventilated seats and heated steering. Far too expensive because of CF parts. Although it retains more value than base RC F. Also to anyone reading this avoid 2023+ because they ripped off TVDs, no more Driver memory.

I bought an old one of these certified used. Ultrasonic Blue with the carbon Performance Pack which also includes the torque vectoring differential. for < 50k. This car is a bargain! The TVD makes turns feel liquid slalom mode. I've driven a lot of cars in my life, some were faster, and the RCF has a fat ass, and is a tad overweight but if you are not going to the track every week or trying to race Mustang and Camaro's light to light. You are going to freaking love this car. It is very very forgiving and with the differential you can actually drive around corners with the throttle. it is very confidence inspiring. It run quiet and gets a little noisy when you're on the throttle. The Mark Levinson sound system is bangingI I get 28+ mpg highway if I put it in eco mode and keep my foot out of it. (Note if you are in performance plus and driving like an asshole you're going to get more like 12 mpg) If you don't think you have enough power and feel like dropping another 10K and you can buy a supercharger for it and have near 700 HP. If you feel like you need to drop near 200 pounds out of an older RCF just get rid of the seats and put in Racaro buckets of something. The super comfy heated/air-conditioned seats are like 150 pounds apiece. Do I think this car warrants $100,000 price tag no! Lexus was not serious about weight reduction.

Lexus loses it value just like any other luxury vehicle. So I wouldn't believe the wive's tale about Lexus holding their value. Residual values are set by the banks and the food chain of auction and dealerships just play along to make as much money as they can out the consumers.
Edmunds long term test of the Lexus GS loosing over 1/3 of it's value from MSRP.
    "Resale and Depreciation:
We accumulated 20,940 miles on our 2013 Lexus GS 350. Edmunds' TMV® Calculator valued the vehicle at $47,431 based on a private-party sale. The market did not seem to support this price, as CarMax offered us $40,000 and the best we could muster from a private partywas $41,000. This made for 30-percent depreciation from our paid price of $58,377. We were disappointed

This is one of those cars that won't be fully appreciated until a decade from now, long after it's gone forever. I can see some TH-camr taking this car out and lamenting the fact they never had the chance to buy one new since they were too young/poor or both at the time..much like I was with the original IS 300 and that sweet straight 6 that was available with a manual at the time. Having said that, this track edition is awesome, but too pricey for what you get for the money. Carbon ceramic brakes are cool and all that, but not really practical unless you really will be tracking this thing regularly...and if you do there are better cars for that purpose for the same or less money.

Quality is def a 9-9.5, my RCF is built like a tank weight and mechanically talking. But you never buy a coupe for practicality ever. The only thing you need in a coupe is a good sized trunk and the RCF comes with the standard size. Practicality for a coupe i'd say 9 if you prefer a car that will last and is low maintenance, and a 5 if you're buying it for performance.

@@orlandovelastegui1391 If we’re talking about used cars then you’re right. But for people that buy/lease new cars usually don’t keep them for more than 3-6 years so the reliability isn’t that important. So if you remove the reliability thing then the Germans make the best cars

The biggest problem with the 2020 Track Edition is it's price. There are better options out there for the same money or less. I still love my IS-F though :)

As an rcf owner, couple of factual corrections to your review:
    1. Torsen Diff is also std on the "base" RCF...tvd only avail on the performance package, so base rcf and track edition have same mechanical diff
2 Never had fold down seats, only pass through
Also can you tell Doug demuro he is an idiot
    Thanks
Overall good review...find dry roads for v8s

I wish reviewers wouldnt poopoo gas mileage for cars like this. Sure, the COST of gas isnt an issue, but maybe people dont want to stop to fill up the tank every 5 minutes if they daily it.

Lexus - reliable luxury more or less... But always lagging the germans in performance.

That's because they under-tune their engines for reliability, not because of inferior engineering. They just know their market and don't want to change. End of the day, it'll cost them more money to compete directly with the Germans on performance when they don't have the brand recognition for that. I read somewhere all their engines are tuned below threshold for long term reliability in HP/litre, where most German cars tune well over that for performance. The Germans know their customers will pay anything for their cars, and most will lease. They also know the dummies will buy the used cars after lease and pay for tons of repairs, which is more $$$ in parts/labour. German cars are meant for the wealthy, then the poor.

If a backseat can't fit for adult I don't know why they still made it, why can't the designers spare the space for more funny equipment.

This is the RCF that Lexus should have released on Day 1.
