For the longest time I thought Spydies looked goofy... until I bought one to see what all the fuss was about. I now own 4 and absolutely love them. Great quality in all price ranges.
I always thought they were ugly myself and I bought a PM2 the other day and I can’t stop playing with it. I still don’t think it’s pretty but the fit and finish is really good, with quality materials and great ergonomics, I’d say it’s a big win in my book.
no name I thought they looked goofy too but I just bought my first spyderco today from the golden Colorado store. I got an all black para 3 and already I can tell it’ll be my most carried knife
Been using Spyderco knives since I stole my dads Spyderco worker in 1994. I was 8 years old and he just let me keep it lol. I love the compression lock on my PM2 but I think my favorite model now is the Stretch 2 in K390! I’m so glad my dad got me into knives and still to this day, I get my dad a new Spydie for his birthday every year.
My favorite is the Paramilitary 2, I own two of them so far in both CPM S35VN and S30V. Lightweight, strong pocket clip that can go in any of 4 locations, easy to open/close, awesome grip from the g10 scales and blade jimping, blackened blades have a beautiful finish, strong lockup, centered blades that are wicked sharp and made in the USA. I've owed plenty of knives throughout my 54 years being in the military, law enforcement, outdoorsman and collector of blades. I even made knives in Ellenville NY at the Imperial Schrade Knife company. Spyderco to me is the best balance in price and quality overall.
I bought my first Spyderco from the Army Surplus in 1993. I’ve had one since that point. It’s cool seeing Sal and Eric talking about their knives. I love this video.
Awesome video guys! I've had the honor of meeting Sal and he's told me a little about their history; it's great to hear more of their ingesting back story. I look forward to part 2!
Love the product and the story. I've EDC'd the Delica for over 25 years now and feel ill prepared without it. This video is most excellent - as a diehard fan of Spyderco knives I have been elevated to a whole 'nutha level of love now that I am more familiar with the Company.
How neat.. Spyderco is what set off this hobby for me. I was about ten and my hero at the time, my uncle who was a Navy SEAL, came to visit. he showed off this new tactical knife he had and it was an original Endura.. coolest thing id ever seen.
I used to hate spyderco knives as a kid. To me they seemed too much of a gimmick. It wasn't until I was older that I appreciated these knives for their sharpness and durability!
Que buen Video.! Gracias a Spyderco por sus excelentes navajas y gracias por la Civilian que me ha salvado a mi y a mi hija de un inconveniente en la calle. Saludos desde Argentina.
I started to get into knives 2 years ago, I needed a knife for work so I started researching videos to see what was the best one. Spyderco would come up all the time and I actually liked the way they looked, it was very unique. The delica was my first knife and I loved it. Now it was time for something new so I just bought the para 3 in s110v it's arriving tomorrow and I'm glad I found this video, It makes me appreciate my purchase much more.
Wow, this video has been around for 7 years and I'm just now seeing it. Sal is a national treasure and an amazing man. You can tell her cares deeply for his family.
I bought my first Spyderco 20Feb85 at the PX in Ft. McClellan. I had a Buck 112 when I processed into basic but it was confiscated as contraband by my drill Sgt. Who woulda thunk it, a Knife contraband, in the army!? Anyway, that's when I was infected. I don't remember the model but I do remember it was very reasonably priced and the blade steel was something called ATS-55, talk about an upgrade from the Buck! I recently paid another visit to Golden, (22Apr17) and left with a Manic 2 with the Blurple G-10 scales, and CPM S110v, it was a tough choice as I would just as soon buy one of everything, and two of a few! I really enjoyed learning more about the history behind my favorite knives,. best wishes and God's speed!
Very nice Video about one of the most important man in younger knife-history. You can feel and see that Sal puts his heart and soul into his knives, that´s what this great hobby is about. Thanks for producing it @ KnifeHQ.
They could achieve that level of sharpness utilizing a 400 grit belt on each side, deburring, then turning a worn out belt inside out, loading it with green compound and power stropping it. This is how I'd suspect it'd be done after looking at various knives of theirs.
I'm not sure about the buffer, unless it's a fairly solid buffing wheel there would tend to be some haze from the area on the blade behind the edge bevel from it being polished as well. Though you could be right.
Cliff Stamp Honestly if I had a blade blank of theirs and three 1x30 sanding units with a 220 grit, 400 grit, and the loaded belt I'd desribed I'd wager with all of them running I could put a very sharp edge on the blade with fair consistency in less than a minute a blade after a bit of practicing repetition and the muscle memory. The edge obviously would not be as strong as if it were sharpened by hand as the metal would be fairly stressed, but it would be quite keen and fairly decent still providing the edge is not burned (all these assumptions are assuming the person sharpening is fairly skilled and would avoid this obviously).
Just now finding this great vid. Thank you Glesser family for all of your hard work! I really do appreciate you and your products. Love and peace to you!
...”trading knives for hot wheels”....too funny! Great video Spyderco; thank you Blade HQ for doing this! I was slow to come around but now a full-on Spyderco nut!
I think they deserve all the success they've achieved, and probably all the money too! Nice guy, Sal. He personally welcomed me to a couple forums he moderates. He makes you want to buy his products.
What an awesome story. As I sit here watching, with my Para Military 2 in hand, I love this kind of "American Dream" family built, ground up success story. I think I knew it all along, that's why I own so much of their product.
Ohhh, I get the company name now. Makes sense. I really liked these knives from the first time I saw one. Now that I've seen the back story I really appreciate the company and the family that started it.
Just came from Ernie Emerson's video, and now - this. So much food for thought. Really glad that the founders of the best and most famous knife companies are from the good old, conservative american type of people. In this sense, their knives are, in terms of spirituality, what the katanas were for the japanese. More than tools or weapons - they are a continuation of the anglo-saxon or/and the american spirit itself. Mythical, yet humbling. God bless!
Nice to know that owner of Spyderco was born in Brooklyn. Never knew that, and this has always been my favorite knife company. I even have a Spyderco tattoo. I know his son have a sick collection.
Can you imagine picking up one of the first model Spydercos... it would have been a view into the future (one handed opening, spidey hole, clip). Great video, thanks for sharing.
Fascinating! Not the first time I've seen the general story of the brand as told by Sal, but a bit more detail here - excellent stuff, looking forward to part two.
becoming a fan/owner/user of Spyderco's knives is a journey of sorts...it was for me.....my first impressions were..like many,.."these knives are kind of odd looking and they're all very similar".....but part of the knife hobby is discovering new brands and eventually i bought my first Endura...then a Military...Manix....Para2....and so on and so on......getting to know the products, the company and the family behind it causes you to have nothing less than a profound admiration for Spyderco and their contribution to the industry/community...well, that's how i feel anyway
Nice ! Well I just received my first Spyderco, the smallfly 2. I have to say I'm very happy with it 🤷🏼♂️. It's very fun to fidget with while very comfortable to use as a edc for basic box break downs & woods carry, maybe, I usually need a serrated blade out in the woods though. It helps cut through wood. Plus it's neat to note that the smallfly 2 is his son's design! 🤙🏼
What!? thats crazyness Sal Glessar Lived in Redding CA! Thats like 45 minutes from me, and my HomeTown. How freaking awesome is that! Makes me love my Spydercos even more now! Come back to Cali Sal! LOL
Great video and insight on one of the best companies in the industry. I grew up in the area and was back there a couple of months ago. I went to the Spyderco Showroom and was amazed at the knowledge the staff had about the products. My wife and I were helped by Rachel and she really knew her stuff. I'll be back there again to drop off my Bushcraft UK for a factory overhaul. Now I'm anxiously awaiting part-2 of this video and hope that you even do a couple videos with Benchmade! [hint]
I have quite a few of their knives. I recently bought a relatively inexpensive knife and when I took it apart I found two spots on the concealed flat of the blade where it had been tested for hardness. I've never seen another manufacturer do that, that's impressive quality control, and on a basic model.
I also used to view the spiderco hole in the blade as gimmicky. Then I bought a Para 3, and all doubt was removed. These are some really nice knives. Out of the box, this is the sharpest knife I’ve ever owned.
Freakn bravo! ! I love this company! !! I have a blurple pm2 that I really really love!!!!!! Plan on get the blurple milli and pm3 also sometime soon! !!!! Keep killing spyderco! !!!!
S90V millie in regular blue from BBS is better than S110V blurple. S110V does very few things better than S90V, and many things worse. I love how humble and soft spoken Sal and Eric are. Not full of themselves like some other manufacturers.
🤔🧐
especially the father; met them, my brother has worked there for over 20 years; thanks
I can name a couple of the assholes you are referring to as in other manufactures lol.
I've met Sal and Gail they're genuinely nice people, they have a great company and family success story to be proud of :)
Amazing work on this one, guys.
The Late Boy Scout
Anyone ever tell you you look like Shane from BladeHQ?
For the longest time I thought Spydies looked goofy... until I bought one to see what all the fuss was about. I now own 4 and absolutely love them. Great quality in all price ranges.
Most ergonomic knives on Earth. I thought the yojimbo 2 was ugly until I held one. Now it's my edc
Same here and now I love my mine.
I thought the same thing.. very odd and then got one and won’t ever go back to a Benchmade again!
Been using Spyderco knives since I stole my dads Spyderco worker in 1994. I was 8 years old and he just let me keep it lol. Incredible story and incredible knives... Spyderco as a company deserves all the success that they have achieved
They do. Hate the knives. But sal is a great dude
Awesome video guys! I've had the honor of meeting Sal and he's told me a little about their history; it's great to hear more of their ingesting back story. I look forward to part 2!
Is it weird that i cried during this? SPYDERCO FOR LIFE. Great job Blade HQ
Love the product and the story. I've EDC'd the Delica for over 25 years now and feel ill prepared without it. This video is most excellent - as a diehard fan of Spyderco knives I have been elevated to a whole 'nutha level of love now that I am more familiar with the Company.

Jimmy Danger Gonzalez what did you think was gimmicky about them?
@@Steve8624 I thought the thumbhole was gimmicky until my dad bought me a delica when I was about 12-13! Loved them ever since
Que buen Video.! Gracias a Spyderco por sus excelentes navajas y gracias por la Civilian que me ha salvado a mi y a mi hija de un inconveniente en la calle. Saludos desde Argentina.

I am watching this every other month just for the kind Glessers to talk. Love Spyderco

Lol, "Hey, no pocket knives allowed! Try an M-16 instead!"
Very nice Video about one of the most important man in younger knife-history.
You can feel and see that Sal puts his heart and soul into his knives, that´s what this great hobby is about.
Thanks for producing it @ KnifeHQ.
Glad you liked it, and thanks for watching.
Spyderco consistently has some of the sharpest blades as-boxed I have seen. I would be very curious to see that part of the process.
They could achieve that level of sharpness utilizing a 400 grit belt on each side, deburring, then turning a worn out belt inside out, loading it with green compound and power stropping it. This is how I'd suspect it'd be done after looking at various knives of theirs.
Maxwell Super I would guess belt + buffer, just for speed. I am curious how fast they can/do it as they are fairly consistent.
Maxwell Super
Trade secrets.....
I'm not sure about the buffer, unless it's a fairly solid buffing wheel there would tend to be some haze from the area on the blade behind the edge bevel from it being polished as well. Though you could be right.

ive owned dozens spydercos over the years from the late 80s to today and every single one have been an amazing tool , i trust them above all others
Really nice capture of the family element behind a well known maker and company.
Just now finding this great vid. Thank you Glesser family for all of your hard work! I really do appreciate you and your products. Love and peace to you!
Sal epitomizes what's great about America. He had a vision and worked his ass off to achieve that vision. I have a Spyderco pre-order at BladeHQ.
Fascinating, love their story and their knives! Thank you Sal and Eric!
Very nice to see this, glad you as a Dad, an he as a Son were able to communicate, an connect! God bless you all, an the roads you have been down,
...”trading knives for hot wheels”....too funny! Great video Spyderco; thank you Blade HQ for doing this! I was slow to come around but now a full-on Spyderco nut!
Such a heart warming family story...how inspiring!
I think they deserve all the success they've achieved, and probably all the money too! Nice guy, Sal. He personally welcomed me to a couple forums he moderates. He makes you want to buy his products.

just bought my 1st spyderco & i love it! thank u & god bless
I made it out to see the shop in April. Really had a great time. Great staff.
What an awesome story. As I sit here watching, with my Para Military 2 in hand, I love this kind of "American Dream" family built, ground up success story. I think I knew it all along, that's why I own so much of their product.
Great story and very humble people. yes, I love Spyderco products and will continue to support the company.
Ohhh, I get the company name now. Makes sense.
I really liked these knives from the first time I saw one. Now that I've seen the back story I really appreciate the company and the family that started it.
Fantastic history and interviews! So cool seeing the Worker protos
Spyderco, awesome knives built by an awesome family.
Great video BHQ, thanks alot for all you do for the knife industry!

Tastefully captured not to mention a beautiful story. Bravo!!
I love that story and as a New Yorker it made me hype! They should make a factory or a warehouse here in NYC, in Brooklyn
Knife history, i love it! 👊
This was incredible!! Absolutely can not wait for Part 2!
Glad you liked it. More good stuff to come.
Awesome people and great company. I have many of their products and will own many more. A true American success story.
Spyderco will always be my favorite company
I’m a Benchmade fan but really appreciated this video.
Nice to know that owner of Spyderco was born in Brooklyn. Never knew that, and this has always been my favorite knife company. I even have a Spyderco tattoo. I know his son have a sick collection.

This was great, excellent work on the video! Even if I know the story, I can't wait to see part 2!
Just got myself a manix 2 🤘First spyderco so far. Getting the pm2 lefty once it's back in stock.
I love the spyderco story and i definitely love the spyderco knives !
wow the most heartwarming story and they are arguably the best knife manufacturer.
Wow, the production quality on this is excellent. Good work guys!

I don’t own a Spyderco knife YET but it’s a great story of how this great knife company came to be.
I Love this Story so much.
Great story

Amazing to see Sal's son show the first "Spydie Hole" and how they got to that. I used to not like the way they look - now I love my Spydercos.

Now you gotta get a Para 3!
Great video as always from BladeHQ,, thanks guys!
Wow this was really interesting. I love Spyderco knives.
I have quite a few of their knives. I recently bought a relatively inexpensive knife and when I took it apart I found two spots on the concealed flat of the blade where it had been tested for hardness. I've never seen another manufacturer do that, that's impressive quality control, and on a basic model.
wow awesome history. and they make the best knives IMO

Great video series idea. Cant wait to get to part two
Just stopped by the shop today, cool to have them in my backyard.(Colorado) for anyone who doesn’t know where Golden is.
I also used to view the spiderco hole in the blade as gimmicky. Then I bought a Para 3, and all doubt was removed. These are some really nice knives. Out of the box, this is the sharpest knife I’ve ever owned.
Wie kann man hier einen Daumen runter geben?!
Alleine die erste Minute ist fantastisch!

Love it. I'm really looking forward to the rest.
Both great knives, don't listen to all the "S110V iS cHiPpY" bs from people who just parrot it back without having any real word use.
Just some advice you didnt ask for from a random jackass on the internet. Cheers.
That part where Eric was talking about starting with a higher quality material and achieving a perfect laser cut is key to the quality of their knives. It is the exact same process used by Toyota, in their Toyota Production System, and I know for a fact that this is the same process that Spyderco has successfully implemented at their factory. Their references to CQI is literally Kaizen, continuous and ongoing quality improvements.
My first Spyderco was the darn dao . Love it
