Appreciate the love and support you showed to the interview I did with E L U C I D, and the show in general. Thoroughly enjoyed this review, REVELATOR is indeed a masterpiece!! My current AOTY, and one of the best LPs of the decade.

Most duo's have a A-mic and a B-mic, but ELUCID and woods are actually both A-mics. I think ELUCID is the better rapper, and woods is the better writer.

Well, when you finally get around to getting deep into death grips, the backbone of the music that Ride raps over is created by an amazing drummer

Thank you for covering this project, an incredible album from an incredible artist.
To me, Elucid is one of the most effective abstract lyricists because of 2 things:
    1. His emotionally evocative imagery-Elucids bars often come in a flurry of seemingly disconnected one liners that end up having an EMOTIONAL connection at their core. The World is Dog is a great example. “Hands off, it’s just happening!” And “I receive then I weigh it” and “that’s a live or die” all contribute to the world is dog idea and imply that this ferocious state is forced on people through their material conditions.
    2. His delivery and flow-Elucid is so great at making his bars sound DIRE, and he’s so versatile with conversational tones, shouting, off kilter singing, screams, and more

AVAA! Coming from a background of extreme metal/hardcore where chords called "panic" chords are commonly used as accents in a staccato way that infuse a riff with energy and mania, the second track on here is amazing. It's essentially a panic chord (a minor second/2 notes a semitone apart clanging together) played over and over again. That really is pushing the barrier of what a hip-hop song can sound like.

AVAA! I love this sound for ELUCID. Really cool lane for him to get into in this stage of his career (not that he hasn't already been picking interesting angles all along though). This album is very experimental and has kind of a punk vibe. I see people even making Death Grips comparisons which can be a little divisive among some music fans, but I get it to an extent. It's easily already among my favorite releases so far this year.

i also used to look down on ELU-kid a bit due to how enthralled I was by woods on the Armand Hammer projects. after checking out Nostrum Grocers and his solo releases, it's obvious to me now that he is just as talented, if not more so than woods. i really think Diabetic Test Strips is so incredible because of ELUCID, and i think the comparisons to Thom Yorke are warranted. AOTY for sure.

Miles is one of my favorite artists! Cool to hear about the Rated X influence, it's an incredible piece of music.
Id recommend In a Silent Way if you want to try again to get into Miles. One of the great late night 'vibe' records, really easy to fall in love with.
I saw Armand Hammer a few years ago and it gave me an incredible insight into ELUCID. Hes a much bigger guy than Billy Woods so you really felt this incredible circular rhythmic energy when he rapped. I think this is the first project of his where that really comes through.
Also Death Grips has a drummer who comes from a hardcore background. But they were only active from 2011-2018 so I guess they dont exist in your universe :p.
    Thanks for your art :)

AVAA 😃 So happy you're loving the album! Your analysis is so helpful in breaking down those dense bars and allusions.
Unfortunately, unassuming guys like Elucid (and Inspectah Deck 😉) can get overlooked when people discuss HipHop, even tho they're among the greatest ever. billy woods is one of my main GOAT contenders, but I'm always telling people _don't sleep on E!_
I know there's no disrespect whatsoever but I _am_ surprised re: your thoughts on Deck, when I could easily argue that he's the best MC in Wu.
It's obvious from the Showtime doc (and just from the records) that he was the one the other MCs seemed to fear the most, often forcing guys to scrap entire verses of their own - which is why they all wanted him first in the booth, just waiting to see what he was gonna spit.
I think he has a _great_ voice and flow along with the crazy pen. Had his first album not been destroyed in one of the floods in RZA's basement, who knows... one of the great what-if's in HipHop.

It is like modernist art -- yeah you could have painted it -- but you didn't... Like the language may be prima facie simple, the composition is just immaculate. It seems doable, but doing it that well is so hard, especially that consistently.
