    I actually love Futures opening verse on ‘Like That’ .. he’s never gonna go crazy bar for bar with Kendrick so I liked that he just did his thing ? The hook he did is bare catchy and the weird whistle adlibs are dope

    8:10 is an outstanding point. I feel Future does not happen under any system but capitalism, and the particularly harsh kind in the US with a laughable “safety net.”

    I think Future is really interesting, since he's dropped this album I've been digging deep into his catalogue and how he is sort of an anti-Kanye or at least Travis Scott is a Ye-twisted version of Future. His discography is so vast I haven't experienced all his albums yet, but his highlights have been really interesting and genuinely great. He also has a very underrated pen game by "oldheads" (something Travis Scott doesn't have). A song like Codeine Crazy is one of the best written, most heart-wrenching songs I've ever heard but I don't think he allows himself to create at that level. He reminds me of Danny Brown (addict, hard to understand, very steeped in one particular cities sound and culture). Just random tired 6am Future thoughts before I go to church! AVAA Prof!

    About 20 minutes in right now, AVAA, if we’re talking about rappers who have a little something you don’t understand that makes you like their music more, I can’t think of a better example than Young Thug, specifically from 2013-2018. If Future is the King of Atlanta, Thug is his Lancelot. Absolutely essential to the trap conversation, and I’d argue he’s just as influential to the current state of hiphop as Future is

    The word goofy is so innocent, but it’s definitely always a shot, and not something you allow to be said about you. To be goofy I always thought was lighthearted. You need a funny guy around for the relief I thought it was a virtue. It just has a dark connotation I’m not sure where that came from, but it makes sense describing someone as truly manipulatable or just ignorant.

    AVAA, great analysis as always professor keep up the good work!
    Regarding "that verse," and specifically "your best work is a light pack" in retrospect, I don’t think Drake has ever attempted his hands at making an album of substance, and especially cohesive theme. The overarching theme and narrative tying the album from start to finish, ever since he put himself on the map, he has always deliberately made his solo studio albums reflecting what's basically going on in the hip-hop scene, every trending sound at the moment, a sound that is going to take over the scene and hasn't quite caught on just yet, and aesthetic that is going to appeal to the largest amount of people. That's why his number game is stronger than ever, literally topping the chart one after another. Still, ironically, his album overall is not as finished, cohesive, and well-organized as his contemporaries. It's his own strategic/selling point, and given that it's the streaming era, it works so well. He intentionally makes his album a light pack.

    I was just coming out of high school and going into college when trap and mumble rap was gaining ground. I saw it butting heads with the other great underground getting released at the time, I always viewed artists like future as the enemy. Now, I look back at that thinking as so silly. Just because artists paint with different brushes doesn’t mean their art isn’t as cool and meaningful. I came to this album because of Kendrick, but left with a better appreciation for future and metro. Now I wanna go back and listen to more future and more metro. Phenomenal album even if it’s not their best.

    Between Cole and Kendrick, I agree, it's not a diss. It's just rap-sparing. With Drake, it's for sure a beef. lol, They have had a passive-aggressive beef for well over a decade at this point. This just happens to be the most poignant. A lot of people are thinking we are going to see a much more direct Kendrick "post-TDE". Which I can see. He has complete freedom now. So I think we will see this side of Kenny more in the future.
    And the MJ reference isn't as much as Kendrick crowning Drake with that comparison. It's a comparison Drake has made about himself, multiple times. Especially since he surpassed MJ in records sold. Drake has referenced himself as MJ more than any other artist. I think the Prince/MJ comparison is multilayered. MJ sold more records, made more music, and was the biggest pop star of his time. (Drake) Prince is more known as the better, more pure artist. He has more respect from other artists and REALLY cares about his craft. (Not saying MJ didn't. I am just talking about the perception I have observed.) He didn't drop albums nearly as much as MJ did. (Kendrick) I could ramble on forever just on that line alone. Either way, this is great for hip-hop. He and Cole are still probably on great terms. Can't say the same for Drake. lol Whether right or wrong, Kenny does not like Drake. lol
    I could go on and on about this verse, but I don't want to bore anyone. And for most people, I doubt I am saying much that most people don't already know. I sadly have to head to work. So I will have to finish this video later tonight. I still think you give the best overall reviews, and I appreciate you making them for us to consume. I hope you and anyone who happens to read this have a wonderful and positive day/night!

      Came to the comments just in hopes someone points this out. There's a lot of context that's missing if you just listen to the 2 verses. Even Future himself appears to be pushing against Drake's claims of Top 3-- literally calling him goofy. And if any of the top 3 should feel threatened by Future's success, it's Drake.

    • @malikdillahunt4524
      @malikdillahunt4524 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Your theory is spot on but actually Prince dropped a lot of music throughout the 90s and 2000s that has largely gone unnoticed by the general public post their initial releases. Prince was on Warner bros and decided to go independent after a long fight out his contract.
      I think though Kendrick may not had to take such drastic measures as Prince starting a campaign to get off Warner bros by pulling antics like being seen in public with the word slave written on his face, he is now free like you said so this Prince element of your argument was a great observation.

    • @SamHoyekGuitar
      @SamHoyekGuitar 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey man, J Cole took direct shots at Kendrick on "The Perfect Recipe" before this dropped. I know we all would have liked for them to be on good terms but I just don't think that's true. IMO this isn't like sparring at all, Kendrick is genuinely done with being disrespected by both of them after dropping an album that will forever be more than they have ever contributed for the world.
      J Cole on The Secret Recipe:
      N***** fake-progressive and woke, I started sayin' less
      I had to stop it, peeped how they profit off of racial stress
      Some activists got so rich, they prolly wish we stay oppressed
      STUDIO STEPPERS movin' extra on songs, fakin' rep
      There's nothing friendly about this or Kendrick's response for that matter. J Cole and Drake both had negative things to say about Mr Morale and no positive things at all even after Kendrick won another grammy. On top of that they teamed up together and went on tour after dropping a song where they mention his name quite literally in vain. Idkkk I just feel like people want this to be something it's not.

I couldn't stand Future when Tony Montana dropped in 2012, but I completely changed my mind on him after listening to DS2 and his 3 classic tapes (56 nights, monster, beast mode) in 2015. Now he's one of my favorite hip-hop artists. I enjoyed his last 2 albums, but WDTY is his best project since 2019's The Wizrd, which is one of my favorite Future albums.

    I fully respect future, but I've never gotten used to his sound. It's my fault because I'm still getting used to trap. And I grew up around rap. Apparently T.I started it pretty much right? Loved T.I but I noticed I never cared what he rapped about vs eminem or outcast back in the day where I'm trying to memorize the lyrics. T.i always had great hooks until he became a rapper to listen to. Future to me isn't what t.i became, I just can't get used to his music, when I'm listening to his songs, I just can't wait for his verses to be over 😂

    AVAA… try “What A Time To Be Alive” and collab album between Future, Drake, and Metro Boomin. An old fav of mine.
    And while I may not agree with you on every take, your videos are great! Keep it up professor Skye!!!!!!

    I’d argue that Young Thug is the most influential rapper of this generation.

      It's close. Imo future is more influential though. Young thug is better imo though.

    I heard he doesn’t use drugs. But, I thought I heard him say “he was so high that . . .” Please clarify. Thanks.

    I think you gotta put JID up there for the next king of atlanta. He’s been in the game for nearly 10 years, released the Forever story which I consider is the best rap album of the 2020s, AND has an album coming with metro later this year….AVAA!!
