  • The refreshed 2016 Toyota RAV4 has some great interior space and is more refined and comfortable than ever. We take it on a 1,000 km ski road trip and load it up with family stuff to see how it stacks up to the long list of competitors.

    Excellent review! As an owner of a 2015 RAV4 Limited, I have been very impressed with mine over the last year. We're a family of 4 and have never been short on space. Love this car!

      Rav's might not be the fastest but its quick enough without the complications of a turbo. Its the only one with full lock out of the differentials so you get a true 50/50 split to the tires. The drive train is bomb proof thats why you see them all over the planet and thats why they have great resale. Since its a Toyota there are a thousands of options in the aftermarket to make it do whatever you want without doing custom or breaking the bank. 300 bucks for a good 2.5 inch lift is just 1 example. A Honda their dilution problems, a turbo and a CVTransmission? No thanks. Rav has my has my vote because they just plain last. Personally if I was going to buy a Rav I'd get a low mileage 2018 and wait until they work out the teething problems with the new 8spd in the 19's and 20's.

    Ok here is the deal with the RAV4 being $2500 more. I just bought mine, in Toronto, after shopping for a couple weeks and looking at almost everything in the segment, even looked at the Subaru Crosstrek, I still got the best deal on the RAV4. Toyota does in house financing which usually allows you to stretch the term longer and keep the lowest possible interest rate, so the monthly payments are still lower than I would of gotten anywhere else. What I am saying is that don't just look at the sticker price unless you are paying full price of the car upfront, talk to the sales rep and see what kind of pricing they can offer.

    Great Canadian review channel! Thumbs up, if you feel the sense of belonging :)
    My wife is planning to get this SE model soon. We were looking at Lexus NX200t, found out the NX rear seat/leg room are identical to RAV4, for money-wise, we go for RAV4.

    Nice review I test drove both a 2016 Rav4 and CR-V over the weekend. Liked the Rav4 liked the 6 speed transmission over the CR-V's CVT. Was also surprised with the room the Rav4 offered as well

    Beautiful British Columbia! Absolutely! After 10 years with a Prius, I'm enjoying my new 2016 RAV4 Hybrid AWD XLE basic with no options. Steering feel is exactly like you explain! Still, It doesn't bother me, it is not a sports car! I do like the new safety features! Yes, it does cost to upgrade! I think that it is worth it! I have the basic electronics. More, I don't need that. I'm a senior! I've got to get back to playing my accordion!

      +Yadwinder Singh Sekhon Many people associate the Mazda MX-5 automatic as a female car. The 2016 Hybrid AWD XLE is definitely not a female car. You've got room to take your adventures further than ever before. I'm really enjoying mine. There are plenty of safety features. Also, I like the power that the Hybrid provides (almost 200hp) vs (176hp). The vehicle also sits 7 inches off the ground. I really like this. I'm getting about 37-38mpg. The vehicle does deserve some consideration. Take care.

    I thought the Escape was in the 30K region, guess I'll have to take a look. Surprised with the vehicles you compare it to, Would think the Subaru Forester, CRV and the Mazda would be closer matches. I was unimpressed when I test drove the RAV4, it had a lot of sway and a little more road noise than the Subaru, but better than the CRV. Will have to see if I can test drive the sport version and hybrid. Didn't fall in love with the Forester but the Outback and Crosstrek are still on my list.

    My concern is the car seat, there should be an arms width of space between the car seat and front seat, in the video they are touching. If you scoot the seat up then there wouldn't be enough room for a tall person.

  • @CamboTriton

    Great review! Are the RAV4 front window pillars to thick and chunky like the 2016 Prius, causing dangerous blind spots to either side? I remember you noted that the 2016 Prius had chunky windshield pillars that caused blind spots when at a four-way stop sign. I hope the RAV4 did a better job with this concern.

      +Richard C I didn't take any note of it, Richard. So they were probably fine. If you test drive one, let me know if you think otherwise.

    i also own the SE AWD and i love it. im just wondering when you did your test, you mentioned that the transmission were having a bit of a problem searching for the right gear, and also the steering wheels seems light. Was the car on eco mode or normal mode? if you switch it to sport mode then that should solve the problem...

    how is the leg room in the drivers seat? i'm six feet tall and have a 2009 RAV4 and it's all little cramped. have they upped the leg room for the driver.

      At 6 foot 2, I didn't have any issue with legroom, Julian. The vehicle has been slowly getting bigger.

    hi looking at this or the 2016 nissan rogue hows the interior compared to the 2016 Nissan rogue?

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jesse Valdez I haven't tested the Rogue, Jesse. But I've heard the interior is excellent. If you take them both out for a test drive, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts. This RAV4 was pretty slick in the interior refinement too.

      +Family Wheels I like the reliability of the Rav4, lots of room for storage, and the mpg...good but not great...there are a lot of vehicles that compete evenly...Subaru and Honda's...I just liked the Toyota...after owning some maintenance heavy Ford's, I thought I"d give the RAV4 a try.

    Another great video, however I would find it more convenient if you could also include MPG and not just the L/100km. I know it's because I'm american and I can understand km, ºC, m/s, but L/100km is as foreign as it gets. I do love the yogurt tests, but I'm sure the next person doesn't.

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mark_Walt Thanks, Mark. Good point. I'll try to remember including both MPG and L/100 kms! It's funny, in Canada MPG seems very foreign to me... but I get your point.

    • @rockman748159263
      @rockman748159263 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely see how it would be foreign to you. Now that I think of it MPG can definitely be as confusing as L/100km. If only everyone could be on the same system... I'd love to see metric be the only system soon.

    • @UnsyNZ
      @UnsyNZ 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mark_Walt Please keep using L/100km. MPG is just so irritating to me

    • @HillOrStream
      @HillOrStream 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mark_Walt Yeah, president Ford put us on the path to metric, Reagan took us off.

    • @FasterThanSoup
      @FasterThanSoup 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find the L/100km irritating. If someone is thinking relatively (to their daily/weekly experiences), they'll have to imagine where they drive that matches that distance or some multiple to get to 100km. I understand that it's used for standardized comparisons between cars, but mpg does that too and is a more accessible measure to the public
      I'd prefer to see km/L. That would still be foreign to Americans, but just a simple multiplier away for those that care to do the math. They would be smaller numbers, but readily understood and more tangible for everyday folk trying to understand how far they can drive on the litres of gas they just purchased. Everyone watches the price of gas/litre and I bet few rarely stop to figure how many litres or dollars it will take to drive 100km. Even fewer still after the mileage (kilomterage?) starts to decline with age
