    The biggest use case I can think of WordPress dashboard customization is for client work.
    Most clients aren't technically inclined and the WordPress admin can be confusing at first.
    But with a few custom touches you can slim down the admin options to only what they need and even provide a place to get in touch with you easily.

    What access do you give to the client? Do they have Admin and thus access to all the plugins installed? I bought Troy's Video User Manuals a couple of Black Fridays back but still to get around to using the facility, have you used it?
    The fancy clipboard would be useful too.

    • @wplearninglab
      @wplearninglab  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some clients want admin access, if they don't I give editor or author access depending on what they want to do in the admin. I've had numerous clients who actually want to learn how to use their sites and I'm okay with that because I scheduled backups for all sites in case they break something :)
      I haven't used Troy's Video User Manual, but I'm aware of it. As long as clients watch it, it's a great thing to add to your client sites. I've been on the fence about creating a similar product.

      @@wplearninglab Would it not be better to have your own photo permanently displayed within the Dashboard or the company logo if perhaps there is more than one editor or there's a turnover of editors such as in a community group? I'm just trying to think of a few different scenarios from my own experience. Although I suppose is depends upon the particular client.
      If your client wishes to edit the site such as adding pages and photos what would you recommend disabling? I am thinking along the lines of disabling all the plugins (ShortPixel, WPForms, Ocean-associated plugins) other than Elementor/Pro.

      Hey Denis,
      It may be possible to cloak the URL using the htaccess file. Im not sure how to do that, but Googling should turn something up.
      Instead of changing the URL, would it work if you redirected the editors to a dedicated page at a different URL?

    Hi, thanks for the video!
    Probably a silly question, but I wonder if the dynamic user info would still work ok (pick up the user's name and image) even after the Pro version of Elementor is no longer active? I imagine anything already created with the pro version should function although the features wouldn't be available for new designs, but have thought to ask for an expert's opinion.

      I figured it out for those that are interested. Create 1 Full Width Section and make background color white. Then create as many inner-sections as you want and make each column whatever color you want for the inside by selecting that as the background color.

  • @andrewdowniephd

    Hi Bjorn, I do like the "clip board" thing. Is that specific to Apple? I use Windows.
    If you set up a client as an Admin., they would of course require access to more or less everything but in that process they would be able to view that the White Label CMS plugin is being used. Is there any way to avoid this? Is it simply to add them as Editors rather than as an Admin? I set up a test Editor account but it doesn't seem to be able to view plugins...
    Cheers.

    • @wplearninglab
      @wplearninglab  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andrew,
      The "clip board" is specific to Mac, but there are equivalent software for Windows. The one I used many moons ago on Windows is called MarcoExpress. It functions in pretty much the same way as Keyboard Maestro, which is the one I use for Mac.
      You may have to make some custom user roles. Luckily, there's a plugin and a tutorial for that. You can check them out here: th-cam.com/video/ny_A9begIU0/w-d-xo.html
      I generally don't make client's the admin unless they really want to be and they understand the risks. Most of the time I make them editors and with the free plugin featured in the tutorial above you should be able to add/remove any access you want for the Editor role.
      I hope that helps, let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!

    Could someone explain to me why would I want to customize my WP dashboard? Is it mostly so it looks good if/when the client uses it?

    • @wplearninglab
      @wplearninglab  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Petia,
      I think it's mostly so when/if a client uses it it looks good. But also if you have sites that other people write for, having a custom dashboard for them is nice as well. If you had a multi-author blog, you could get even more advanced where you show the author's latest posts on the site and even stats about those posts.
      If you're building websites for yourself by yourself then creating a custom dashboard isn't that interesting.
