@@tldw8354 great comment. It is a pain that so many tutorials related to wordpress are rooted in downloading plugins. I never want to download plugins if they aren't needed. I haven't making sites very long but the first thing I learned is don't bloat your site with unneeded plugins.
Wouldn't this plugin break plugin/theme updates? i.e. if I change the plugin/theme path/names etc will the update happen smoothly or not? I assume it will not. Am I right?
To really create a nightmate for people wanting to snoop on your code, just change every directory name to "a" or "1". Makes it nigh on impossible to read your code when used with the other settings. HOWEVER the biggest issue is that if you don't mask the ability to read those files, someone can merely click them and read the files contents anyway. Im wondering too, and i search every single comment about themes or plugin updating, there no one answer the question. And maybe we must try and error. For test this plugin
I would think you would have to change the theme name back and then do a manual update of the theme, then rename it again. However, I suspect there's a bigger problem. Most hosting companies these days will automatically update WordPress sites to the latest version automatically. When this occurs, you'll probably be notified (hopefully in advance), but then it's up to you to recognize the issue and update the theme manually yourself because hosting companies will not update your theme. Same thing for plugins. Otherwise you will likely eventually see problems crop up because of incompatibilities between the versions of WordPress, your theme, and plugins you're using. And of course, the longer you go between updates the more likely your site will become vulnerable to attacks. There are applications and services available to keep everything on your site updated, like iThemes Sync, but I don't believe they would work if you re-name the theme or plugins.
This was a great video! Thank you so much! I do have one question. If we are making many sites, would you recommend using different path names on every site? 1. Could you use WP Hide & Security Enhancer on a website that has already been customized without a child theme to Hide WordPress Directories, WordPress Plugins, and so on?
This is so cool. Love watching your posted videos. Just wondered do you have anything on sourcing, installing and using SSL? My host doesn't supply them themselves but will source and install for £120 + VAT. I'm sure I must be able to get it somewhere cheaper. They say they will install any I provide and supply a dedicated IP for £50 +VAT. I have a number of clients with the host but they aren't all WP.
Hi there. This plugin breaks my site, I've tried several times to uninstall & reinstall whilst also disabling all non-essential plugins. Is there another plugin with similar capabilities. Kind Regards
yes, this plugin is using a technique called security through obscurity, which consists on bluffing the rookie (most) hackers away. As for plugins like Wordfence, they add layers of security against hack techniques such as XSS, CSRF, DDOS, Brute Force and such. I think using both plugins simultaneously is very efficient in terms of security.
I followed all the steps but, It still shows the WordPress theme detected When searched from sites, and out of 32 plugins 2 of them were still displaying ( W3 Total cache and omp font I want)
Hi Pelle, it should work with iThemes as long as you don't have similar functions in iThemes turned on. I hope that helps :) Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this, it works well! However, whenever one clicks on a downloadable file, it opens in a new window with WordPress favicon... not very subtle. Is there a way to get rid of that favicon?
Hi Sojol, The theme name that appears in Appearance > Themes is set in the main stylesheet of the website. You can find it in the theme's directory and the name of the theme is right at the top of the file. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Ok, I hid my theme. Fine. What happens when my theme has a new version, what happens with the update? It's hard for me to imagine that it works automatically. Please answer to this. Thanks.
Hey Juan, the updates won't affect your hiding work because the URLs are changed in the htaccess file. The only time you'll have to change something in your set up is when the theme developer changes the URLs for the themes resources, which is pretty rare. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!
@@wplearninglab Hi, within the Inspect Element, you can still see the "WP" throughout the code. How do I hide / remove WP, and anything that contains wordpress throughout the source code completely?
Hi Tim, You should be able to keep on tweaking the settings of this plugin to remove them all. The other option you have is encrypting your source code using IonCube or a similar service. IonCube is premium-only, but it'll encrypt your source code and inaccessible to the public. I hope that helps :) Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!
I have installed this plugin and set it up as directed in your video - prior to this my site had been hacked a couple of times - and it has now been hacked again !! The hacker is modifying core WP files in some manner. Resetting the core files removes the hack - but not permanently - is there any way to secure the core files with this or another plugin ? Also using free version of iThemes
Hi John, This plugin doesn't secure the core files. It sounds to me like the hacker left a 'back door' somewhere in your hosting account. That back door is a file or multiple files outside of your core files. When the core files are reset, the back door just infects them again. You can often find these files in the uploads folder or in the root of the site. Unless you can find the files and remove them, the only way to secure the core files is to change the permissions on your files to "read only". I have this permissions tutorial that should help you with that: th-cam.com/video/04jNSZtUjqQ/w-d-xo.html It's not the ideal way to go, but it's worked for me in the past. The ideal way to sifting through all your files and find the back door. Some host's are very helpful and they'll scan all your files using their server tools. Then give you a log of which ones they think are infected. Some hosts do that for free, others will try to charge your for it. Also, the Sucuri Site Check may help you find files: sitecheck.sucuri.net/ You can run a free scan with them. I hope that helps. Let me know how it goes!
@@wplearninglab thanks Bjorn, I appreciate the followup here - super busy - will implement and see what happens. On another note I ordered this and did not receive it [Order #13185] (June 5, 2019)
Have just set file permissions to 555 - will this have any effect on my ability to work with the site ? Will see if this solves the problem have also scanned the site with Sucuri - no problems found - thank you again for your input and guidance
Hey John, I checked the site and everything looks in order. When you signed up you were promoted to create a username and password. Have you tried logging into the site with those credentials? I can look up your username only. If you're having trouble with your password you can reset it on the login page or I can reset for you.
@@wplearninglab Hi, thank you for this info Bjorn. I'm still playing games with this hacker. I've implemented all of your sugestions (specificaly I removed write permissions on these files; wordpress, wp-admin, wp-content, wp-includes), Interesting - the hacker appears to have retored the write permissions ! I also deactivated all plugins - the next day they were all reactivated, and of course the hack returned. I hate giving up - but I'm at the point of resetting the site and rebuilding from scratch implementing your suggestions. What do you think ?
Hi Vaheed, I don’t see that being possible. When someone visits your site the domain name is visible is in the browser’s address bar. Wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of hiding it in the source code?
@@wplearninglab IonCube would be cool! I will probably figure it out myself before then, but I'm sure it will be beneficial to many of your subscribers!
Hi Petia, Ioncube is fairly pricey, but powerful. It has a free trial, but no free version. It basically hides all of your source code except for the very top. I don't use it regularly, so I don't have a license for it. I'll look into making a video using the free trial, just so you guys can see how it works and decide if it's right for you.
@@wplearninglab I wouldn't rush to make that either. For anyone reading this comment, you could try disabling the right-click button. This will prevent someone from right-click->source code, but of course they can still look at the source code other ways. :)
wow! great tutorial to hide my theme and details. I am a front end developer. Now my question is that how can I find the hidden theme? please tell me the way. It's important to know. can you please tell me the way? 'whatwpthemeisthat' is not working for that site. and there is no 'style.css' file in view page source. what can I do in that situation?
Hi Sumon, The truth is always in the source code, even if it's well hidden in the source code. Sometimes, the only way to find out what the theme is is to look through all the folders and view the code in the files to try to find hints about the theme. Sometimes developers will use function names with the theme name in them or leave comments in the code referencing the theme. Things like that can't be hidden without rewriting the code, but they can be hard to find. And, after a lot of digging, you may come to find the website was not built with WordPress... I hope that helps :) Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!
I am not expert but i think most of the problem can solve from this 2 method 1- after watching this video method follow them 2- disable the right click on website.

My host doesn't supply them themselves but will source and install for £120 + VAT. I'm sure I must be able to get it somewhere cheaper. They say they will install any I provide and supply a dedicated IP for £50 +VAT. I have a number of clients with the host but they aren't all WP.
bello el complemento pero me tiro el sitio web..
Hi there. This plugin breaks my site, I've tried several times to uninstall & reinstall whilst also disabling all non-essential plugins. Is there another plugin with similar capabilities. Kind Regards
Do I need this if I'm using a security plugin like Wordfence?
yes, this plugin is using a technique called security through obscurity, which consists on bluffing the rookie (most) hackers away.
Great video! does it work with iThemes Security plugin?
Hi Pelle, it should work with iThemes as long as you don't have similar functions in iThemes turned on.
I hope that helps :) Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching!
Is this plugin compatible with iThemes Security? Also I heard you can use it to prevent SQL injections. Can you do a tutorial on that?
Simply doesn't work for my WP sites. Followed your tutorial to a T but different results. Theme name shows all throughout.
great help, how can i hide yoast in header?
sir, if i update theme or plugin , it can override original names or not

Good advice!
@@wplearninglab thanks

Super awesome is how we do. Thanks for watching Gina!
Hi, i How can change wordpress name and wordpress icon on wordpress engin website in "wappylizer"
i tried it and it doesn't work. The whole sites just looks like rich text?
this tutorial not happens on aws server with wordpress!
truth!
Thanks for this, it works well! However, whenever one clicks on a downloadable file, it opens in a new window with WordPress favicon... not very subtle. Is there a way to get rid of that favicon?
customize theme code or from backened
hi...how can change theme name from my site??
Hi Sojol,
The theme name that appears in Appearance > Themes is set in the main stylesheet of the website. You can find it in the theme's directory and the name of the theme is right at the top of the file.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
thanks you are doing great bro keep going ☺☺☺
Thanks Bachchar and thanks for watching!
many thanks
Ok, I hid my theme. Fine.
What happens when my theme has a new version, what happens with the update?
It's hard for me to imagine that it works automatically. Please answer to this. Thanks.
Hey Juan, the updates won't affect your hiding work because the URLs are changed in the htaccess file. The only time you'll have to change something in your set up is when the theme developer changes the URLs for the themes resources, which is pretty rare.
I hope that helps, let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!
@@wplearninglab Thanks for clarifying this.
Do you offer paid services to do all of this?.
I don't at the moment, there hasn't been enough interest yet. Thanks for asking!
@@wplearninglab Hi, within the Inspect Element, you can still see the "WP" throughout the code. How do I hide / remove WP, and anything that contains wordpress throughout the source code completely?
Hi Tim,
You should be able to keep on tweaking the settings of this plugin to remove them all.
The other option you have is encrypting your source code using IonCube or a similar service. IonCube is premium-only, but it'll encrypt your source code and inaccessible to the public.
I hope that helps :) Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!
@@wplearninglab so disappointed. Thank you
I have installed this plugin and set it up as directed in your video - prior to this my site had been hacked a couple of times - and it has now been hacked again !! The hacker is modifying core WP files in some manner. Resetting the core files removes the hack - but not permanently - is there any way to secure the core files with this or another plugin ? Also using free version of iThemes
Hi John,
This plugin doesn't secure the core files.
I have this permissions tutorial that should help you with that: th-cam.com/video/04jNSZtUjqQ/w-d-xo.html
It's not the ideal way to go, but it's worked for me in the past.
Will see if this solves the problem
have also scanned the site with Sucuri - no problems found - thank you again for your input and guidance
Hey John,
I checked the site and everything looks in order.
Does this affect the REST API?
It shouldn't affect the REST API.
You are awesome, thank you again, it works like a charm! 👊👊👊
Thanks A, you're awesome too! Thanks for watching!
Cool thank you this was great info
You're welcome, thanks for watching!

How to hide domain name in web source code?
Hi Vaheed,
I don’t see that being possible. When someone visits your site the domain name is visible is in the browser’s address bar. Wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of hiding it in the source code?
Works "well" thx, but elementor still appearing
Not only in wappalyzer , it can detect the entire website on wpthemedetector as well :(
thank you so mach my ferend
not working
hello, how do I completely hide everything, without showing number1, number2, number3 etc..etc ..
If I get your meaning you want to hide all your source code. You can do that with IonCube. I don't have a tutorial for it yet though.
@@wplearninglabok. Grazie per la tua risposta, spero che tu faccia il tutorial di ioncube.
Hi Sumon,
The truth is always in the source code, even if it's well hidden in the source code.
@@wplearninglab Thank you so much for your quick response! And please make more tutorial for elemetor. I just love your tutorial.
I am not expert but i think most of the problem can solve from this 2 method
1- after watching this video method follow them
2- disable the right click on website.
It slows my website....
