    Well done on your presentation. Thank you! I was a Protestant who came to understand the truth of our faith through the reading of the church fathers and visiting a parish. My whole family formally entered the church on January 14th this year through holy baptism and chrismation. Through the prayers of our holy fathers, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us and save us.

      Did you partake in a water baptism as a Protestant? If so, why did you get baptized again with the Orthodox Church? I might not be understanding you fully. I am a follower of Christ who was baptized in a modern non-denominational church. I've been enjoying ROCOR teachings online for a while and intend to visit an Orthodox Church service soon. I'm feeling drawn to a more quiet and contemplative worship. Peace.

      Jesus is the head of the any Church who believes in Him and what He teached in the new testament, not all Churches believe in Jesus because they are focused more on religion then Jesus Christ, i used to be orthodox till Holy Spirit showed me the truth, Father Son and the Holly Spirit are one God, we know Christ true the Holly Spirit, it starts off repent from all your Sins and follow in
      Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
      Then you take up your cross and Follow Jesus just like He said in Matthew 16:24, the Holly Spirit in you can help you from your sins, its not us that are good but the Holy Spirit in us, God helps us just like He said He would in John 14:18-21
      John 14:26
      This describes your icons thst are idols in Psalm 115:5-8
      5 They have mouths, but cannot speak,
      eyes, but cannot see.
      6 They have ears, but cannot hear,
      noses, but cannot smell.
      7 They have hands, but cannot feel,
      feet, but cannot walk,
      nor can they utter a sound with their throats.

      Beware of the traditions of man, the pleasure of earthly things, and unbiblical nonsense. Do not bow to icons, only bow, with meaning, in prayer to God, not because some tradition. Do not treat the Truth like an earthly mystic religion such as Hinduism or Hellenistic Paganism. The Truth is already known, in the Bible, away from earthly rules and traditions. Do not follow the orders of a ‘pope’, an earthly political figure that can and WILL mislead you. God is the Father alone. Jesus is the connection between Earth and Heaven. The Word determines how you should follow and worship God. All Christians are saints.

      That is one of my problems with Orthodoxy, as well as making major feasts center around incidents in Mary's life; incidents that may or may not be factually true. I can understand the concept of powerful metaphors and symbols (such as Mary entering the Temple as a child), but to make an incident from the Protoevangelium, which I think was even questioned in its own day, so important may cause inquirers to question the factual truthfulness of other events (such as the Resurrection.) As for icons, I really feel that the Ancient Church stepped over the line. They completely disregarded Paul's instructions to NOT force other Christians to do things that violate their consciences. After being involved with and studying Orthodoxy for a few years, I understand how they view icons, but I also see that it's a moral scandal and stumbling block to Protestants who see this as a sin. Similarly, I also recently heard a priest discuss a situation where an abbot had a monk lie to pilgrims; this was supposedly a test of the monk's humility and obedience. This situation is similar to that of St. Theodora/Marina, who pretended (!) to be a man to get into a monastery and then allowed people to think she fathered a child. I guess I'm too literal a thinker to respect this. To me, truthfulness is higher than humility, and a lie causes the name of Christ to be disparaged.

      Because iconography is a Christology issue in a response to ISLAM. If you do not “like” icons that’s just your predispositions giving u the “heebey geebies.” You can get over that over time. That predisposition came from incorrect theology pulling people away from the fullness of the Faith.
      God became man, we can depict the Son, but not the Father. This was a direct opposition to the Muslim teaching that God has no Son, and God cannot become a man. And the iconoclasm heresy happened BECAUSE of the influence of Islam. So this is why they died for icons because they were dying for the Incarnation. They were dying for Christ! This is a response to the heresy at the time you must understand the historical context of it as well as the theological.
      If during the time Christ walked the earth they had iPhones to take pictures, and they took pictures of Him, do you expect them to delete it after His ascension?? “Sorry no more images!”

It is the Church that truly follows what Christ taught (which is in agreement with what the apostles taught, and the fathers, and the saints...) When Christ talked about eating his flesh and drinking his blood in John 6 many of his own disciples turned their backs on him, so it's no surprise that some do the same thing to this day, for the same reason.

    Let us not forget the Gospel. If that is forgotten the rituals, the icons, the asceticism are just religion. And I say this as one who became orthodox.     15 It is used as fuel for burning;

    he kindles a fire and bakes bread.
    But he also fashions a god and worships it;
    he makes an idol and bows down to it.
    16 Half of the wood he burns in the fire;
    over it he prepares his meal,
    he roasts his meat and eats his fill.
    He also warms himself and says,
    “Ah! I am warm; I see the fire.”
    17 From the rest he makes a god, his idol;
    he bows down to it and worships.
    He prays to it and says,
    “Save me! You are my god!”
    18 They know nothing, they understand nothing;
    their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see,
    and their minds closed so they cannot understand.
    19 No one stops to think,
    no one has the knowledge or understanding to say,
    “Half of it I used for fuel;
    I even baked bread over its coals,

    The one true church is not an institution, it is every believer that holds to Biblical Christianity. Different domination does not necesarilly mean different theologies. Quite often, the only difference between denominations is geography.
    I mean, if we take the "one true church" claim of orthodoxy seriously, we have to ask: which one? Because there are divisions within the orthodox church as well. I mean, does the Ukrainian Orthodox church count as the one true church, or the Russian one?

    It's a sin to worship icons!!!
    Deuteronomy 4:12-16 VDC
    [12] And the Lord spoke to you from the midst of the fire; ye heard the sound of His words, but saw no face, but heard only a voice. [13] He proclaimed His covenant, which He commanded you to keep, the Ten Commandments, and wrote them on two stone tablets. [14] At that time, the Lord commanded me to teach you laws and commandments, so that you will fulfill them in the land that you will take possession of. [15] Because you saw no face on the day when the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire at Horeb, watch carefully over your souls, [16] lest you corrupt yourselves and make for yourselves a graven image or a likeness of an idol, or the image of a man, or the image of a woman,
    Romans 1:23, 25 VDC
    [23] and they changed the glory of the immortal God into an icon that resembles mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and creeping things.
    [25] for they changed the truth of God into a lie, and served and worshiped the creature instead of the Maker, who is blessed forever! Amen.

      If Christ is one, then the Church is one. You cannot have one Jesus, and at the same time have two simultaneous churches as the one true church. Apostolic succession is one thing, but this alone does not result in the true Church. The Oriental Orthodox Church and Assyrian Church of the East also claim apostolic succession, and the Church of England can at least make an argument of apostolic succession in their case as well.
      If Jesus founded the Church on St. Peter, as you said, and the Eastern Orthodox broke communion from Peter, namely with the Pope, that is called schism, and they are therefore not the true Church, but in schism from the Church.
      We nonetheless profess their sacraments as valid, and I’m sure faithful Orthodox Christians are in the mystical body of Christ, but that is questioning the way God works outside of how we know He ordinarily works, which is beyond us.

      I would argue that apostolic succession required that you continue to teach what the apostles taught. The Catholic Church has developed so much doctrine that was not present in the early church.
      Transfer of guilt from original sin, primacy of Peter as defined in Vatican I, purgatory, immaculate conception to name a few.

My guess is that you have only read/studied the teaching from the Catholic point of view which is normal if you’re Catholic. But, of course they will continue teaching their dogma. @FaithfulComforter It's not by my strength that I don't sin, it's by the Holy Spirit in me. I might not know the Scripture but the Holy Spirit in me does know, who helps me understand better, Glory to God
      Anybody who receives the Holy Spirit has the power of God to forgive. we are repenting to Jesus not Apposles, Jesus died for our sins not Apposles, thats if you didn't know, in John 20:21-23, that's why God says forgive your enemies Luke 6:27-28, Luke 23:34.
      Because God doesn't want any one to perish 2 Peter 3:9.
      Jesus preached a message about forgiving our brothers, as God forgave us. We stand in grace, and He expects us to keep our hearts pure toward others, not holding grudges or harboring a spirit of unforgiveness, especially after He gave us such undeserved love and forgiveness at such a high personal cost to Himself! He expects us to forgive others 70 times 7 times (Matthew 18:22). We are also told that if we are praying but hold something against anyone, we are to forgive that person so our relationship with God is right and righteous! Colossians 3:13 says, “Forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” We know we are His if we love our brothers and don’t hate them or have unforgiveness in our hearts (1 John 2:3-6; 3:14-19; 4:16-21). Forgiveness is a key to showing we indeed have eternal life inside us, according to these passages. If we say we love God but hate our brother, we are liars and no truth is in us. So, our forgiveness of others is a major indicator of true fellowship with God. God looks at the heart and actions, not mere words. Jesus stated while on earth, “These people come near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” So, it’s important we have a living, genuine faith: “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers” (1 John 3:14).
      Church is good only if it doesn't go against the Word of God that was written in the Bible, the Bible constantly warns us “not to go beyond what is written” (1 Cor. 4:6). This kind of exhortation is found throughout Scripture
      The Corinthi,ans’ communion services had become corrupted with selfishness, drunkenness, and discrimination against the poor. Participants were neither honoring God nor edifying one another in their celebrations.
      In the early days of the church, Christians celebrated the Lord’s Supper with feasts (Acts 2:46). Paul indicated that the Corinthians were favoring the wealthy and privileged but neglecting the poor. Some participants remained hungry while others got drunk. The Corinthians were publicly overindulging in their church services and discriminating against the poor. Their actions, Paul said, were equivalent to “despising the church of God” (1 Corinthians 11:22).
      Hopefully you'll understand, God bless you

He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God!!..
    These few verses unmask deception and reveal idolatry:
    The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the works of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; they have eyes, but do not see; they have ears, but do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouths. Those who make them become like them. SO DO ALL WHO TRUST IN THEM. Psalm 135:15-18

    Jeremiah 7:18-19 KJV
    The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the ¨queen of heaven¨, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger. Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?
    Mary and saint worship, Mary the mediatrix and queen of heaven? God cleary told us Jesus is the ONLY mediator between God and mankind. Whoever else you use as mediator or pray to is IDOLATRY.
    1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.
    Saints dont intermediate and dont listen to prayers, they are dead people like you and me, made of flesh and they died, Mary also is one of them, she was a normal woman who gave birth to Jesus and she and other people may not be worshipped.
    God declared the dead as the following:
    Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten. 6Indeed their love, their hate and their zeal have already perished, and they will no longer have a share in all that is done under the sun.
    If the dead are alive somewhere... then who are the ones Christ will resurrect at his arrival?
    *Second commandment (Ex 20:4): Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, ...*
    this includes rosary necklaces, Mary and saint statues, Jesus, Mary and saint images, crosses, 'holy relics' and many more items used in worship by most denominations. People bow down before these things, kiss them, pray with them and that is wrong.
    Christ is the mediator we pray towards, close the door and pray to him honestly without any items or images, he is the living God and does not share his glory with manmade things.
    It is time to return to the old Hebraic faith of Jesus (Yeshua) and do what he did (obey the Fathers commandments and laws). There was no Catholic church or hundreds of denominations each with their own views and opinions back in the days of Jesus and the prophets. Believers had the old testament back then, which is the foundation of all scripture and the key to understand the new testament. Most Cathechism practices like rosary prayers etc are just invented in the 16th century.. first pope existed in 538ad and not in the apostles their days. those things got nothing to do with Jesus, its the traditions and vanities of religious men who went far astray from the Fathers commands.

      We trace our bishops back to the apostles, it’s called apostolic succession. I’m not an Eastern Orthodox, I’m a Catholic Christian. But we both trace our bishops back to the apostles, when they first started appointing bishops in the New Testament. This is well known and recorded Church history…

      @@crusaderforchrist8430 absolutely wrong..Why do oriental Orthodox also venerate icons but yet have been in schism with the Eastern Orthodox since the 4th century? The church of the east also venerated icons prior to the Muslim invasion…You would claim that it was the 7th ecumenical council that officially made it doctrine ..But both other apostolic churches were in schism for hundreds of years prior but still and always have had that practice except the church of the east but were geographically separated and were in schism for hundreds of years prior to your claim..

      @@kianis1206 The schism in 4th century of OO churches has to do with christology issues. It doesn't mean they were cut off completely from Christendom. It can happen the practice of veneration of icons came much later, just before Muslim conquest. Like I said, there's no historicity that Apostles or even the Pre-nicene fathers venerated or kissed icons. To think otherwise is pseudohistoric. Like Jeroslav Pelikan, historian on early church said, "“the [Eastern] Orthodox were obliged to admit that, for a practice [Icon veneration] that was supposed to be based on the tradition of the apostles and of the church fathers, this one had very little written testimony, either in Scripture or in ancient Christian writers, to support it.” (pg. 99 from "The Christian Tradition” volume 2: The Spirit of Eastern Christendom)

    It's sad what humans will do to Jesus. How they can even pretend anymore that icons are not idols. What would Moses say if he saw people bowing down to drawings of dead people? They even keep "relics" to worship too it's not just icons. Who do they think they are fooling.

      Exodus 25:10-25 Building of the Ark of the Covenant
      Numbers 21:7-9 The Bronze Serpent and asking for intercessions
      7 The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.
      8 The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.
