      Nope, the decks still there! The deck is actually above the bedroom on the corner.. (terrible design in my opinion) because in the case that deck ever leaks? It's leaking onto living space!

    Hey Matt
    I wanted you to know how you are affecting the youth you are targeting. I teach a Carpentry Class in Suburban Chicago and I have been using your videos to show my students how it really is. They really enjoy watching and have learned a lot of practical info along with asking me a ton of questions about what you are doing. Thanks so much for taking the time to do these videos they really help.

    Hello Matt - Nice work! When attending college, I worked for a General Contractor corporation in the Syracuse New York area. There the codes called for sill sealer along all exterior pressure (PT) wall plates when they are in direct contact with concrete block or poured foundations. In some Downstate municipalities we had to add termite shielding prior to the sill sealer and the PT sill plates. We did not have to install wall stud blocking until the wall exceeded ten feet in length. I noticed that you did not have to use sill sealer or termite shielding on the exterior plates, but you did install blocking in eight foot walls. It’s interesting how our building codes differ.

    • @MattBangsWood
      @MattBangsWood  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There’s a difference between blocking. You’re thinking of fire blocking! 😊 Our blocking is to make sure our walls are rigid and don’t end up tweaked and crooked by the time the lumber dries out. It takes a bit, but quality is everything.
      Sill sealer has been a subject that’s been brought up many times, and to be completely honest I’ve never seen it in my lifetime. Built many big commercial frames and worked for nearly a dozen contractors over the years.

    Curious why you dont snap 6" when doing slab on grade so the OSB sheathing sits flush with the concrete allowing for the siding to flow smoothly past for the 1" overhang that is common with siding? Resulting in no need for rodent caps

    • @Quietvibes07
      @Quietvibes07 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We frame face of framing flush with foundation. Substrate hanging over 1/2” directs water away from foundation instead of capillary action causing water to pull under the OSB or plywood and take forever to dry out. This has always been a debate amount builders!

    • @williscooper7750
      @williscooper7750 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Quietvibes07 Capillary action will still occur unless you run the OSB past the foundation. This why you install a rats guard. Your comment implies you expect water to get behind the final siding.

      I don't like the union personally, wouldn't want to do it myself.. but it's just because of the repetition.. I like to do different things from time to time, union is a lot of one thing!

    What are the headers made out of where I live you have to use 2 2x10 with appropriate top and bottom plate on them for whatever size wall your framing and if it’s over 5’ you have to use 2 2x10 lvl those don’t look like they would pass hear

    • @MattBangsWood
