MattBangsWood save a good amount of studs if you use off cuts from plates or something for you”channels” and replace that full stud in the middle with 3-1ft ish blocks instead. Great video! Hey I know how you love your Vans, you should reach out to them and help design a framers shoe! Maybe a mid or high top perhaps a steal toe! LOL! You never know! A MATT BANGS WOOD SPECIAL EDITION!! John 👍😎
I've never heard them referred to as channels. Always called them to pars. My first boss would lay out a wall like: x[par]x and the guy making headers would make them up. Keep slaying!
I love your videos for rawness and knowledge. No mucking around with camera tricks or sponsor/not sponsor/click here and there/notification blah blah blah. Keep the puft puft puft sound of gun ringing. 🇳🇿🤙
Hey Matt, did that router bit have a bearing on it? Next time try the Diablo 1/2” shank panel pilot bit. No bearing needed and it has a sharp piercing point for plunge cuts. Most lumber yards carry this bit or a generic version of it.
Hey! I think you've mentioned that bit before, and I really want to try it. I wouldn't have to claw a hole to start either, which would be really really nice! My local yards don't carry them, I'll probably have to buy them on Amazon! The bit i'm using is a Flush Trim Bit - with a bearing. A few months ago I had a bearing fly off, scary stuff!
With the type of flooring used 1 1/2 ply wood then another 1 1/2 how can it be ok to hang a ceiling rack or two in the garage. I’m used to seeing the floors built by a full 2 x 6 or 8. The ceiling racks I’m inquiring about can hold up to 6 hundred pounds.
I get how blocking the wall like that before it’s installed makes it quicker and sturdier, but doesn’t it lower the r value significantly in that area because now they cannot insulate behind that. Thx
Not sure - I doubt it, have to think.. Studs are the same thing, but 92-1/4” tall, they insulate above and below. It calls out for a 4’ block line on plans, but we have our ways of blocking that we stick to.
It's like watching myself work...pov is Kool. makes 8' look way smaller. i prefer to sheet walls laying sheets horizontal if its possible but i know some places or builds don't allow that. I don't have a cordless/ router so i like to cut my windows out as i go cause ppl cant cut good with the Sawzall or they bevel the plywood so windows flanges cant touch the wall. routers are nice though if you sheet it on the ground or have a lift with a man basket so fast.
We used to call the channels, “Ts”. We made them with the cut-offs from the door jacks instead of a full stud. Pencil in the saw guard...naughty, naughty 😆! A case of, “Do as I say, not as I do?” 🤜🤛
Shear walls will have specified shear nailing (6/12, 4/12, MUST use 10d’s) along with spec’d out sheathing. Shear walls will have hold downs at both ends. Technically, non shear sections don’t need OSB at all. Some framers do it that way.. We don’t. We sheet everything! I’ll explain more in my structural plan reading video!
MattBangsWood Flexzilla is great especially in cold weather. Lays flat no trip hazards. Bostich makes a good hose too. Check out Home Depot’s Dewalt hoses during Christmas for a good deal @ $20 for a 1/4 x50 with connectors.
I'm working on a video on how to get into framing or carpentry at all for that matter.. I feel it needs to be talked about! It's super simple, most people just don't have a clue on how!
You earned a new subscriber! You’re talented bro. I can’t wait to be running my own crew here soon. Probably another year, I’m almost a year in. How long have you been framing?
California and Florida, two hardest places to get a General Contractors license and two worst places to build due to spec’d out hardware to codes.. Nobody here is bragging about hold downs, or anything like that.. Just documenting work days buddy.
New subscriber, like ur channel, I'm not a professional carpenter, but I've learnt a thing or 2 watching ur videos... just a tool question, ur router bit u use on ur windows, how many do u go thru on a typical job?
We call thoes channels, u corner in ohio, but mostly we just put blocking in between the stud space every 2 feet. Our builder doesn't like the the air space that is left with the u corners.
What your calling a channel we call a tee post in NC . It’s funny but a corner or tee post built with blocks in the middle we call a California corner or tee.

They dont give u a hard time for not using galvanized nails in browntone lumber. The inspectors are always on our ass about that
I love to learn it from you.

Did you ever make the switch ?
@@seapowder3434no not to construction but I left a toxic job for one that I am much happier with.
I have always had good luck with a pilot panel bit chucked up for cutting out door and window openings. No bearing to fool with. Bang On.
Don’t really have to mess with the bearing, set it once and you’re good. To each his own I suppose
Framing is just too much fun!! Great video Matt!👷♂️🔨
Awesome videos!! How could you guys climb up and down and not feel dizzy or fall from that high.. do you have any protections?
Make these videos longer I could watch these all day!
Oh yeah! Great camera work! Thank you the fun!
Shouldn’t the second story floor joists sit right on top of the wall studs?

Aye matt i have the same problem with a loud compressor just throw a sheet. Over it helps. Alot

From ohio we call them u corner
Nice confidence walking those 2x4 wall plates! Haha I still struggle with those. Especially on 2nd story houses..knees weak!! Nice vid
good job bro👌👌👌
super exciting to see this coming together! gotta get some merch to represent here in MN
good to see you switched up the start/stop location when routing windows. was surprised to see you start and finish at the bottoms in previous vids.
I like to make stuff with a saw and nails, but GOSH you guys are FAST! :D
Just a suggestion from another framer put your drywall backer in along the parallel walls before rim makes a great nailer for the rim joist

I have companies I work with, but I rarely ever do sponsored post. Just showing the real life work day!
In Australia we have to put house wrap on all our frames do you also have to do this aswell as the osb
Hey Matt. Love your videos.
What material did you use on the rim for the 2nd floor? Was it 3/4 in ply ripped to size? Thanks.
Hello Matt. Going up fast!! Hope you didn't have to lug to much material from the back. Can't wait for the next installment. Enjoy the day. Ray L
Hey Matt, how do you seal the joint connection between the concrete slab and the sill plate of walls?

Hey there Matt, great job 👏🏻
Got a question: what is the recommended distance between those I beams and can they be replaced by 2X12’s?

Why do block in between studs, is that code in California or spec in the plans?

You do good work I wished you were in southern California and allow me to tag along to learn
Where ya at? I have a frame in LA area that we might be doing. Monster!

Same, but I live far away
I do framing in Orange County, come hang out I show you what’s up
what’s the difference between a shear wall vs a regular wall? are there noticeable differences when looking at them?
Shear walls will have specified shear nailing (6/12, 4/12, MUST use 10d’s) along with spec’d out sheathing. Shear walls will have hold downs at both ends.
Technically, non shear sections don’t need OSB at all. Some framers do it that way.. We don’t. We sheet everything!

Why arw the blocks between the studs staggered but in the winery build it was a straight row?
The blocks in this build were just to keeps things rigid, while the walls in winery build have blocking in it for siding backing.
Dope video. How do you know where to route out for the windows once you get the OSB up?
Quality work as usual, break neck speed.👍👍👍
router for the window opening, nice trick. Thanks for sharing.
TheProCut works great for your username too.
I don’t get it..
Been Doing it for years !
Just curious Matt, you have cordless drills and saws. What do you use a generator for?
We have a gas compressor too. Generator is used because 2/7 of us have corded Skilsaws now. I'm working on getting them hooked up with cordless!
How do you chose to use these i-joist vs a straight 2x10 for the floor joist?
Matt. I see you used the replica hitachi gun ... is good ? Or would you just buy the a5 ?
I’d buy it over the NR83A5.
Kool.. thanks 🤙
what is the second tank for? never seen that set up and love to learn new thing . thanks
Very cool, really like this series.
I really wish you can come to outskirts Tallahassee to frame my future house up...,🤔
Btw man how did you get used to walking top plates 🚶 I’m only able to do it on 2x6 external walls. Any tips?
Takes time, I was scared to when I was younger, after a while of getting comfortable, you know it's just part of the job.
Tomorrow is a fun one. All second story top plate baby! WOO!
in 9:51, how did the nail get in? diagonally?
What was the pump action nail gun into the bottom plate?
Love your channel. Quick question though. Have you ever made a mistake? whether it was big or small.
Hey @MattBangsWood huge fan of the channel. What hammer are you using? Looks really slick
Hi, greetings from Croatia, what is name of these at 10:41?
If you frame exterior channels like that, how can you get your insulation in?
What Vaughan hammer do you use ?
Instead of using a full length stud for your channel use 3 roughly 12 inch cut offs. Saves material and you use up scraps.
Makes sense to router window openings like drywall.
Just curious why you guys not sheet walls on floor ?
You guys work fast 👍 what router bit do you use to cut out windows?
FlyBy804 take a look at Whiteside pilot point router bits
Loren Rickey thank u
We can’t tint that dark. 👮 carry tint analyzers now.
Build a sound box for that generator out of scrap osb and sheet insulation.
@0:37 bet that tint is way too dark for California vehicle code.
What’s the nail gun you run ?
Thankyou very much appreciated for sharing the knowledge to the world.Awesome
is your airhose polyurethane? what brand is it?
Yes it is! 😊 We run Husky (Home Depot) or Hitachi Hose, 1/4” for going to guns, 3/8” Flexzilla hose to go from compressor to tank.
MattBangsWood Flexzilla is great especially in cold weather. Lays flat no trip hazards. Bostich makes a good hose too. Check out Home Depot’s Dewalt hoses during Christmas for a good deal @ $20 for a 1/4 x50 with connectors.

How did you get into this line of work? Rarely see young framers or young plumbers or anything. Nice work bro. From Las Vegas

Build a quiet box for your generator check out landberg tiles video on the one he made out of go board
Imagine if owner builders took the time to put construction adhesive between the studs and plate priors to toe nails. It would be so much stronger.
Would definitely make a crazy bond. Would it be worth it though?
Only for the home owner/builder. For contractors, it's not worth it because 2 toe nails already meet requirement .
Nails hold plenty well, what would be the benefit?

Has anybody else nailed themselves while working?
That's something cool! Can you share de floor plans? I'm a civil engineer from Brazil and we do not build wood frame here! Cheers
your team is FAST :]
We move right along! Hoping to double speed and have the place done in 5 days, with a day of pick up.. We’ll see.. Today’s not going so well!
Why everyone is using OSB for sheathing instead of fibreglass gypsum boards, like the GP Dense Glass or USG Securock, or Glasroc X?
Nice bro.
What kind of gun is that in the video around 6:10?!🤔
Hilti for shooting nails into concrete
@ chad2894 - You can get shots for that Hilti hot enough to ‘nail’ 2x4 to structural steel. Helluva tool!
Great guys god bless you brothers
im confused is hiis the first floor over a basement
What router bit did you use to cut out your windows?
I used to use a flush trim bit, but recently switched to pilot bits. I’ll attach a link below!
What wood name u use for frame?

New subscriber, like ur channel, I'm not a professional carpenter, but I've learnt a thing or 2 watching ur videos... just a tool question, ur router bit u use on ur windows, how many do u go thru on a typical job?
That router in the video has now done 2 or 3 full houses! 😊
11:33 What's that for a small room? 😂
Why not 2x6 as backer instead of 2 2x4s
7” vs. 5-1/2”.
A 2x6” over a 2x4” wall only gives an inch of backing on both sides. The way we did it allows for 1-1/2” on both sides.
Shouldn't first floor shear break on center of rim joist? Stronger cleaner and better shear transfer
Doesn’t count as a shear transfer here anymore, it used to. Not sure why it doesn’t anymore, but we have to LTP4 no matter what.
@@MattBangsWood is that pneu nailer any good? Like nr83?
Hi Matt, how many windows can you cut out with that router bit?
This is house #2 or #3. Long enough to not have to worry!

Good to see the fire blocking going into the frame...was told by a builder here that it is no longer code...another stupid Cali BS decision.
