    This game turned 30 years old this year. Unbelievable how time flies. This is by far the best mounted gun arcade of all time. Given how big the movie was back then and this arcade game just added to it. The console version don't come close to the arcade version at all. I fed this arcade game a lot of my money. Revolution X, Terminator 2 Judgement Day, Lethal Enforcers 1 and 2, Time Crisis I and II, Space Gun, Alien 3 The Gun, Crime Patrol, Area 51, Maximum Force, Mad Dog McGree, Steel Gunner, so many great legendary gun arcade games from the 90s. I'm going to hook up the MAME later and play this classic.

    Arcade1ups were funner when they were cheap or clearanced somewhere and you could just pull all of the stuff out of them and put in your own stuff. These things have gotten way to expensive though.

      Chris this game was one of my favorite games from my childhood so I feel you man 👍🏼.
      Honestly I would shop around though, if you have the room in your house or apartment. I scored the actual arcade cabinet on Craigslist for $700.00 ….. it didn’t work when purchased but repair part cost me $1.35 …… largest concern for me now that own the actual arcade cab and knowing what all goes in it and how it works is this -
      1. Like Scarlet said that two way mirror with the flashing bulbs is HUGE when it comes to the immersive feel of this game
      2. The solenoids in the actual guns are pretty bombastic and add tremendous haptic immersion as well
      I would want to see first if the guns are built well with haptic feedback and if the two way mirror effect was even taken into consideration
      If yes then he’ll yea this game would be worth every penny. But if not then you might want to consider looking into a used version of the actual cab

  • @KongsRUs
    @KongsRUs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is exactly my biggest concern about the guns not using traditional pots as a positional gun. A1up pretty much has the tech to do this as the they used Potentiometers inside their Star Wars yokes, so I was really hoping these would have been mounted guns.

    • @ScarletSprites
      @ScarletSprites  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And maybe they still will be? This could still be a mock-up. Pots aren’t exactly expensive either but I guess the fear is them getting worn and broken by rough use in a home setting? I don’t know. Not sure how much riskier that is vs. an actual light gun. I’m with you though, I would have liked to have seen the attempt.

    Agree 100%. My buddy and I would get a $10 quarter roll (each) and play this until the end. We did it often and this would be perfect - if it was somewhat authentic. Being that it's not even close, I'll prob get a set of the stationary guns (as shown by Retro Ralph) and put them a Gamer Pro where I can play all the stationary gun cabs like Op Wolf. Just don't see getting that arcade feel with a non-stationary gun and on the small screen. I'd consider picking it up and modding one of these if A1UP pricing didn't go crazy. In reality - I don't think it exists anyways. Feels like a scheme to get people talking about something other than that price increase anyways.

I would love to get the real cab, absolutely but where I am too in Canada I don't think it will be possible. You make so many good points about the difference in the experience and tha6 concerns me too. These are mini multicades where concessions are made to accommodate all games on the cab. Example is they just released a tempest with a horizontal monitor. Here I think the other games are more standard light gun so this is what we got. I don't know, i i doo want the original experience more than a different way to play this so we will have to wait until an official word comes out. @@ScarletSprites Arcade1up deals with mass customers/big box stores and that can definitely be a factor. What many forget is there are tons of factors the public or fans don't understand behind the scenes. They are international and can see right off the bat, having two black oozies would be impossible, hence the blue and red more "toy" looking. And I don't fault arcade1up for that. As for if they are attached to base or removable is a balancing act. Both have their advantages. The "purist" would appreciate the more authentic feel. However, if they are removable, it for me indicates there could be other titles which would add to the value and replayability. Similar to chosing horizontal vs vertical screen layout. I'm a fan of Arcade1Up cabinets simply for their size and the fact that it at least looks like an arcade cabinet. Beyond that, its the real thing for me all the way! I don't have a single stock Arcade1Up, I don't hate them but I wanted better controls and make the games I've always wanted. So I put too much money and time into Arcade1Up cab mods haha. As soon as I can buy a new house with a ground floor arcade space, I'll almost certainly only buy real cabs. I bought a real Hydro Thunder but I can't even attempt to get into my upstairs game room. The door frame is too small, something I never thought of when buying the house lol. I'm also baffled by the guns. They do look like they can be picked up but, the cradle they're sitting in is far too large to just hold them. I think its going to be potentiometer and I suppose it *COULD* have the ability to lift the guns and use them as a light gun for other games. I'd be surprised though, the cable length looks far too short. The price of A1U's have reached a crazy level in my opinion. I'm also sure they'll sell to the hardcore guys who just won't dive into real cabs or modifying them seems too daunting.

There is a tiny bit of cursor lag and there is no flash when you get shot like you show in the video on OG hardware. The sinden is better than the aimtrack but both are a decent solution. I would imagine if this is real, 1up would be using modified sinden tech like in the big buck hunter cab

    • @ScarletSprites
      @ScarletSprites  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good point. I’ve not been able to use a Sinden yet and I haven’t actually seen it in person but it seems like a cool option for modern gun games.

    Does mame affect lag compared to pcb or the monitor being crt is whats important?

    • @ScarletSprites

      It’s often a combination of both. Software emulation and the control inputs that go along with it often introduce lag. How badly can vary greatly. Digital displays then have their own levels of lag, and those too vary amongst models.

    It's hard to beat the original arcade game in any capacity. Just the authenticity keeps it above everything else. Once you go there it's hard to go with something's less. Aside from that is there a company I can call to buy a Supergun and that also sells pcb boards. I had one in the early 90's which I mail ordered from California but at that time magazines were a thing where they would have phone numbers of companies that sold things like tthat. But nowadays it's hard to find arcade hardware anywhere. Extremely hard. Any companies you know where I can buy it? I remember wanting a Capcom CPS changer back in 93-94 as well but only was through Japan mail order. Never got one but i had neo- geo aes. Can you help??

    • @ScarletSprites

      The HAS is a Supergun that a lot of enthusiasts recommend and use. They’re on an order status I believe though and orders aren’t always open. I can also recommend Axunworks.com, he’s a one man show and it can take a while to get your item because they’re made to order, but he makes some really niche arcade products. Checkout his website, he is doing superguns too.

    You’re right , nobody who owns dozens of 1ups knows it isn’t a light gun in T2, but at them same time, they are the same people who do not care about how the original works. The guns seem like they have to detach because why the heck are the guns so low and pointing at the bottom of the bezel . If they are attached , My concern is the height of the guns from the ground. I’m guessing on the 1up I won’t be leaning on the cab and getting a nice straight on look. I might have to play on a stool. Haha. And if they aren’t attached , well then who ‘knows what angle I’ll be shooting at. In the end, what do I care, I’m not getting one anyway.

      Hah, you're not wrong. A few people have been talking about the mirror and sense of depth the original gives. That's kind of hard to do with this unless you want to make the cabinet deeper which everyone including A1Up seems highly opposed to. In the end the light gun tech may actually be needed to give any sense of aiming and not block the screen. I'll be really curious to see the reviews of this. This is an example of a must own cabinet for me. I’ve seen these at auction But most of the time they are out of reach. I got a Revolution X years ago for $1000. But Terminator 2 has always escaped my grasp. I’ve played this with emulation. But the original cabinet is a grail game for me and the only way to play in my opinion. I admit to owning a few arcade1ups. But I’ll be passing on their version of this game. If I can’t have the original then I’ll just do without.

    • @ScarletSprites
      @ScarletSprites  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wanted to avoid going down that path in the video because it easily comes off as elitist, but I truly believe that this is just one of those games that isn’t easily reproduced. The cabinet, sound, recoil, and upside down monitor giving the artificial depth is just an “experience”. Not sure how else to really frame that. It’s subjective but feels factual. Kind of like how seeing a movie in theaters provided a different experience than when you bought the VHS tape.
      There was a Rev X close to me for $300 that was fully working and I thought about it for far too long and it eventually sold. I kind of regret waiting on that one.

      $300 for a fully working Rev X is insanely cheap these days. I would have jumped on it. You could easily resell for a profit if the game doesn’t speak to you. Speaking of, I love having Steven Tyler yell at me to put more quarters in. Mine is on free play. But you know what I mean.
