- I was fortunate to have spent the weekend of August 13th & 14th at the LI Retro gaming convention on Long Island. The con plays host to a brilliant layout of arcade and console games and has a few other unique twists that make this event stand out from the crowd.

I have ranted and raved about the whole Marketplace disguised as conventions. So glad the vibes felt good and different. LIRetro sounds awesome 👏
It’s part of the show. It’s not THE show here. It’s a breath of fresh air.
I’m really grateful for the kind words and I’m glad that we got to hang out that weekend! We try really hard to create that special experience at the expo and give people a taste of video game history. Looking forward to making it even better next year!
You guys did an awesome job! I think a lot of people enjoyed their weekends because of what you guys pulled off.
So I could actually play as Guile on Guile’s stage, only with a REAL fighter jet in front of me as I do it? 🤔

Went back in 2019, my favorite convention hands down.

Many People who attended the event and have a social media presence spoke highly about the location and the well fitted setup. If it’s going to be like that the next year as well, I actually consider to fly in from Europe just to experience it myself.
props to those organizers. They went out of their way to give the guests an awesome experience.

9:37 - Wow, so much nostalgia from seeing that! Absolutely iconic of its era.
This was easily one of the best conventions I attended this year; there was so much love for games of all types, from the titles everyone knows to obscure hits just waiting to be discovered.
And I greatly appreciate the LI Retro's crew's dedication to presenting all these games with as authentic of a presentation as possible.
Looks like the arcade people were really on top of things. That console timeline display was impressive. Having all that in a room is one thing, but presentation is everything. That looked great. I probably would’ve got a couple rounds of Oregon Trail in….
I’m kind of mad I didn’t take the time to play Oregon Trail. Perhaps my only regret of the weekend!

Having a bunch of shmups being played on cabs in front of a classic jet fighter is such a perfect visual. I’ll definitely need to try and make it up there next year

14:20 .. just wow. Arcade cabs and fighter jets. Almost as absurd sounding as Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. It really is an awesome and unique celebration of hardware and tech history. I'll absolutely try to go next year.

I loved that it seemed like so many people were enjoying what was available and having a good time. Definitely not just a marketplace and done type show.
That’s awesome dude. I have framed photos of the blue angels and a Japanese a6m zero on my wall that my dad took and I’m a big fan of aviation my grandpa was a pilot during WWII. Great capturing history of gaming in a interesting spot
It’s like a double dose of awesomeness. There SO MUCH aviation history in there. I used to love going to air shows when I was a kid. I saw the Blue Angels a few times, as well as the Thunderbirds and Snow Birds. Always liked the Golden Knights parachute team too. I had no idea so much manufacturing was done on Long Island, including the X-29 if you’re familiar.
Every now and then, I come across a video that I'm dissapointed I can only give a single thumbs up to. This is one. Loving the energy and passion in what's being done here

A dual setup no less
This is one that I would make a priority to visit. We decided to put our entire travel budget into a six week Colorado trip. So maybe next year I'll have some time to make it out there. I've been to a Retro computer Expo where everything is playable and that was an amazing experience.
I really liked the retro computer exhibit at TMG a few years ago. Really cool to see and completely unexpected.
This place is fantastic Scarlet. I remember going there and just being amazed in everything being offered. I wish I can go back there and enjoy those moments for sure bro.

Saw Riggs' video about the expo a few days ago, and now yours. Both are great showcases of the atmosphere! It looks like a place where I could spend an entire week and not get bored.

Man I was hoping to see someone playing aero fighters 2 in front of that a-10. I always use the a-10 in that game.

It’s a cool place for a convention. Definitely a great atmosphere.
Fun fact: The video game console Fairchild F system is made by the same company that designed the A-10.

WOW just sometimes i wish i was there .
all this arcade love and memories combined (as you said they care because it matters ).to still be excited by arcade machines and entralled by video games , (as we all are ) to be fortunate enough to go and meet fellow enthusiasts means an awful lot .
years ago i went to local seaside resort looking for some arcades of my memories , however after fruitless hours i finally came to one ironically near where i started , the overwhelming happiness within myself was something i still remember ,wanting to tell people about this , I'm really pleased for you , knowing how you must've felt among all this , and 9 hours sleep!!new sprites refreshed lol
It’s fantastic seeing it all lined up and other people enjoying things. I edited out a part of the arcade discussion where I talked about playing Spider-Man and having random people join. That’s a VERY arcade experience; meeting and playing co-op with strangers.

Definitely a cool setup and venue. I’ve never really seen the NW part of the country so that would be a nice added excuse to travel out.

As a Manhattan person who has a personal home collection museum , it always irritates the heck outta me that we here never , ever have any type of convention like this here. Pisses me off actually that we have to go to PA, CT, NJ, LI. Never anything in the 5 Call Ross

Games aside that is an amazing looking museum! I love the space stuff, the Warthog, OMG I would spend hours there soaking up all that awesomeness. Oh yeah there is the entire history of video game consoles to enjoy? Candy cabs? OG Wood cabs? WHAT WHAT WHAT?!!!! Yes please, I would love to see this. Really really would love it. Thanks for sharing this with us Joe, I see why you are so enamored by the place. WOW you spoke in the PLANITARIUM?!!!! DUUUUUUUDE
I got caught up in the museum quite a few times. There’s a lot of aviation displays I filmed that I never ended up using for the video, but wow is there a lot to read and take in. There’s even a hot air balloon display complete with a turn of the century suit in a glass case. So much cool stuff.
@@ScarletSprites I love that Warthog. That is my favorite airplane ever made, second would be the F-4 Phantom (which I had the chance to fly in once). I would spend days in that place soaking it all in. Games aside! hahaha. But with the games there I dont know how you focused on anything hahaha
After seeing this, I would *love* to go even more.
It was pretty awesome. I loved the focus on arcade gaming and history (obviously). I think anyone who is 35+ would probably be delighted to spend a day here. These guys killed it.

That looks so much more interesting than TMG, I’m definitely going to try to get there next year.
It’s a totally different vibe. I love TMG for what it is, but this is different.

Random thought: Do you think there is any hope of CRTs being produced again for arcade games? These old games just keep getting more and more popular. There are arcades here in Texas with 300 games and all are still running CRTs. I keep hoping someone will see there will be a small market for them. Or, maybe someone will come up with an LCD that can mimic CRTs well enough to even please some of the elitists. Just curious what your thoughts are.
No, I really don’t think you’ll see that tech again. Not in its original form anyways. On the bright side I did see a low lag 21” prototype “retro monitor” this weekend. It’s an LCD that closely mimics a CRT.

Thanks man! It’s been pretty great the last two years. I’ve loved it. Unfortunately the planetarium panel doesn’t exist as the audio recording was corrupted I believe.

It’s like that one section of Too Many Games except it’s larger and it’s their entire convention.
@@ScarletSprites The arcade section at TooMany games is cool, but it’s just there. No real thought… just arcades and consoles you can play. You you went to had a sense of purpose other than something to do when your not buying stuff.
