I had a fire back in August and I had a Yamaha Z9 I lost . Never explored Arcam before but I love second hand shopping. Found a Arcam AVR 390 at a pawn shop for 500. I was hesitant but they said I could bring it back within 10 days. So I did that , and wow I'm blown away. So much so I'm looking at audio reviews to buy a more modern Arcam receiver. Idk for 500 bucks I'm impressed with my decision as the surround is mind blowing. The separation is ridiculous and even though it is supposedly 80 WPC has no issues powering my B&W's. I always want to get into separates but it's just a crazy amount of money to do all that. I think I can live with Arcam until I win the lottery 😅.
As a music-first guy, these look awesome! I have to agree: for someone who wants high-end (2-channel) audio and excellent theater a/v in one box, these can't be beat. Another great video, thanks AA.
I've been looking into upgrading my Marantz AVR to move into Dirac Live room correction, so this review comes at a great time for me. I can definitely see one of these units in my near future. Thanks!
My question is does any of these receivers have any sort of preamp mode where an amplifier or amplifiers are either disconnected or shut off when not in use?
Finally pulled the trigger on these. Got the avr21 in last night and listened to just some Spotify and then firestick movies. So far compared to my old Yamaha v773 it's a night and day difference, and haven't even tried Dirac yet. Very clean and powerful sound. The only negative I've discovered so far is the unit gets hot near the top rear by the HDMI board after a while, and it takes like 40 seconds to fully boot up. Used it for 8 hrs straight and no protection mode ever came on so hopefully it's no big deal.
Very interesting device. Thank you for the presentation. Is there support for Siri? Is it possible to listen to the sound via Bluetooth and speaker at the same time?
I am looking at upgrading my 5.1 system to a 5.1.2 Atmos set up. I currently have an Anthem Mrx 520 (fantastic sound). I have ordered an external 7 channel power amplifier to power the entire set up so the receiver will be running in full pre amp mode only. I am considering the Anthem Mrx 540 8k but I also am considering the Arcam AVR11. I don't have a way to personally audition these 2 amps to compare but would like some opinions. Is the Arcam sound a worthwhile step up from Anthem which already sounds great? Great channel by the way. Love your videos.
If you already love the MRX520, it will be more of the same sound you already love with better detail, clarity, and precision. Especially if you are strictly going to use it as a processor. If you don't like to make a lot of tweaks and want it to sound great once it's calibrated, then Anthem will be the way to go. However, if you want to tweak a bunch of settings frequently, Arcam might be the better route, thanks to Dirac, and it would be a solid "step up" in that sense. If you are considering the Arcam, we'd recommend spending more on an actual processor like the Anthem AVM70 or Arcam AV41. Hope that helps!
Don't buy the avr11, I'm on my 2nd one and I'm taking it back for a refund this weekend. Both units are making a humming noise, I'm at a loss now I don't know what avr to get now
Would adding and external amplifier (NAD M22) to power the fronts L & R change the character of the sound, compared with using the inbuilt amp? Thank you
Hi Leon. Nice review. Being torn between Arcam & Anthem 2 years ago, I went with Anthem's MRX740 & AVM70 over Arcam's AV40. The one thing that stood out was your comment about the "Arcam Sound". What is it and how do you characterize it? I know how subjective this may be. But it must be better than just marketing. What makes it a better sound than say Anthem Sound? Please help us customers understand more. I am tempted to test out Arcam AVR11 or 21 just to audition its "sound"! BTW, is the AVR20 and AVR21 similar except for 4K vs 8K? I might try AVR20 instead for economic reasons.
Since you are using the Mark Levinson power amp you should just stick with what you have. The amps in the Arcams, especially the Class G amps are very good. But you have an awesome power amp already. Thanks for watching
Is there a reason why the phono input is the only thing that’s powering my speakers through an avr? The manual said you shouldn’t use phono if not using for turntable. Help! Thanks!

Arcam is waaaaaaaay overpriced! In EU AVR5 with old HDMI board and zero room correction is....wait for it 2700 €! That is around 3000 US $. Should be max 1700 €. In comparison the new AVR31 is....hang in there 8000 €! 😱 Almost 10000 $ or the price of a nice car. Serenity now! 😭🙂
Wow, they are much more expensive in the EU. Interesting. Thanks for watching
Things are priced what people will pay for them. To, you it is overpriced. To others, it is a steal.
Plus no Mic for room correction
The unit does come with a microphone, but its not a great one. We have found through experience, the microphone you use for any calibration makes a world of difference. That is why we recommend people get the Mini DSP mic, which is a very good one for around $100. It would be nice if they included something on that level with it. Thanks for watching
@@AudioAdvice mini dsp umik1 and umik2 ?
@@junior-OG The 1 is fine
no issues at all😂😂😂😂😂
I can't do anything about it but this is really the ugliest receiver I've ever seen 😆.
They certainly have a different look, but coming from the perspective of using the front panel for some set up and adjustments, they are great. Thanks for watching
Aww thats funny 🤣 btw I totally agree, that's why mine is in a cabinet...

Arcam’s AVR’s are simply hideous! The graphics are out of place and misaligned. I just cannot stand the looks.🙆🏻♂️😒
Yes, but they sound great!
