Hard to be on a fire a coach band wagon when they went 13-0, primarily because of Defensive.
Think Randy Shannon was the link to south Florida. Hasn’t worked out.
He’s Co-DC and the defense has made significant improvements during his tenure so not completely sure all the finger pointing needs to go his way. He just needs to do what he’s been known for and that’s recruiting at a high level as well.
Probably not a bad coach, but the recruiting needs to get better.
🤔 Let’s see….trust Norvell or listen to super fans who demand changing several defensive coaches ASAP? I think I’ll trust Norvell. 😂 He will do what is necessary. He’s a calculated and sophisticated thinker and decider. I think this year’s snub, ACC’s shenanigans, and the Orange Bowl “loss” to the UGA machine is going to lead him to becoming an elite recruiter and merciless coach on the path to all future opponents scorched earth destruction.

I remembered 3 years ago, everyone was calling for firing Ron. I don’t hear that last year and this year. Maybe a little more patience with Randy?

If all else fails and we do need a defensive mind. Go for Dennis Allen when he gets fired from the Saints. He's the worst head coach, but he's an elite Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Mind in general. He's managed to pitch 4 shut outs in 3 years & that's against NFL offenses.
I trust in Mike, he’s going to do what’s best overall for our program, plain and simple. It sure would be nice to feel that way about the people representing us in Washington.
Randy Shannon is a good man and I hoped that given his coaching resumè and FSU's storied history of great LB's, that he would be a solid recruiter of line-backers but he just hasn't. FSU needs someone coaching that position that can be a force recruiting, particularly in the state of Florida. Like Pat Surtain Sr.
My hope would be they go out and try to find a former player(either a former Nole or someone that played in the NFL). Someone that can connect with the youngster's, their parents and carry some cashe. I would so love if Norvell could convince Derek Brooks to join the staff but I know that's a long shot. Would be a home run hire though.
Them three linebackers you named are all freshman and sophomore they will be ok but we need a couple starting linebackers this year

This is tough to say JP just need to be the Special Teams coordinator tight ends coach Randy Shannon needs to go Odell Haggins it's time to hang it up we need a young defensive line coach he's currently at Syracuse Nick Williams he's currently the edge coach he can coach the whole defensive line we need this guy ASAP give him $800,000 he'll come
I think Mike isn't going to move on from coaches unless he knows he has a better replacement lined up. If you let these coaches go and can't bring in an upgrade what let the coaches go in the first place?

Yes, I believe some changes need to be made. Elite programs recruit to a standard as well and we shouldn’t be complacent because of the success of the last 2 years. If you grew up watching the Noles in the 90s then you understand and LB & DL recruiting must get better, FAST. Can’t sustain the type dynasty level success that you’d hope for through the portal. What about bringing in some more former players to recruit? Why is Ernie Sims a LB coach at UCF & not at FSU?? I would hit up Darnell Dockett or Timmy Jernigan about helping coach the DL, so we can get some younger cats to recruit the position
I agree that we need those areas improved but the portal is not the enemy. We will have to year in and year out replace talent through the portal when we have talent that also goes into the portal.
@@JackpotJI agree, it’s not the enemy. It has helped a lot, however it shouldn’t necessarily be relied upon on a regular basis. The elite teams may go to the portal, but they are picky because they dont necessarily need it. They use it here & there because they recruit so well in the high school ranks. That’s the difference.
Ok one thing here a lot of folks miss with LBs. My favorite all time player is Shadetree. Now that's outta the way, everybody forgets about other great Lbs that came here. Kirk Curruthers for one, the last year he and Shadetree played together, both had over a hundred tackles. MJ had like, 112, and Kirk had 102 ish tackles for the season. Hey!! Let's not forget our other Butkis award winner, Paul McGowan. Js. Tommy Polley, Todd Rebol, and one I bet most don't know is Kenny Roe. Also many others. Watson, Simms, Bradham, ECT. Let John coach STs and get Odell some younger help across the line...Shannon,,, best of luck. These are my opinions. GO Noles 🏹💯💥
After the Georgia game, it should have opened Mike Norvell eyes up to what big time recruiting is like. In this game/business you have to do what it takes to win at the highest level. If coaches have to go, then so be it. You need elite talent at all levels.

You do at the least in the bare minimum understand and grasp that FSU didn’t have but 4 starters in the UGA game right. Your comment isn’t addressing the fact the 13-0 team went undefeated in your assessment. It’s like you saying “I can’t believe a Joey loss the 40m “ but without acknowledging he was a paraplegic.
Uneducated comment by JConer. He doesn’t realize that it wasn’t the same FSU team that won every game. That’s what happens when you do not let the best team in the country play in the CFP. Noles already proved themselves this year. I would not play in the Orange Bowl either
@@mantis10_surf85 my post was not uneducated, i understood all the opt outs and players not playing, what I was referencing was our depth was not compared to GA’s. If GA would have played their 3rd and 4th stringers they still would have beat us. 4&5 stars back ups will win out any day over 3 star and below players. Clearly you didn’t understand my comment.
@@NeverAgain12292 I knew we only had a few starters but our depth is no where near GA depth. Yes, their starters played but thier backup dominated our starters that played the entire game. So again it goes back to recruiting and that is on the coaches sir.
i think far too many fans of every fanbase takes the Star Rating system too seriously
Edit: I think Development and Teaching is FAR and ABOVE the most important aspect of Coaching. Again, I dont think worrying about "star power" is the issue
You can win with lower rates players who develop but it is much less likely. Think of it like playing a 5 9 hand in holdem. You can win when playing that hand but there is a reason the best players mostly don't try to win that way.
I get what you're saying but the rankings are just as flawed as the CFB Playoff selection committee. J Verse was a 0 star right? and plenty of blue chips are busts. And everyone always quotes the stat of the Majority of the players on the winning teams are Blue chips. But many of those players get rises in ranks, just as ours get lowered in rankings based solely on where they are goin @@nole74edit: most of that is all just a confirmation Bias that proves exactly nothing. Stats are only as good as the source. And if the source is skewed so is the data.

You sound crazy, you can't call marvin Jones jr a loss the 1st time he committed to Georgia. Fsu was 3-5 if I was a high school all American even if fsu was my favorite team growing up theirs no way im coming to fsu.
We as fans need to consider 3 factors that will influence Norvell making changes: timing (wait until portal closes and very little chance to secure missing pieces bc to pull trigger too early will lose ANY possible transfers to that position), hiring options (who’s good and available and interested NOW?), and $$$$$ (does anyone really think we didn’t lose some of recruits and transfers to $$$ WE DON’T CURRENTLY HAVE?). Come on people. Think about it.

Honest but hard conversation: what do you do with Odell and John P? The recruiting is very bad, the development is good, but it is not competing for top 5 finishes year end and year out
why not fire fuller? your naming position coaches but too many games were the defense was underwhelming for multiple season under fuller. bad schemes misuse of talent.

i 100% trust mike to get the recruiting in a better spot, i do agree with you on the positions that are slacking are LB, DE, DT, i mean the only position on defense that so far has a really good flow of guys are DB and surtain Sr, even thou i really wish that we could of held on to kj bolden. but i hope Mike is not the similar coach like jimbo was where back in 2016 as in we, well me and some other FSU fans were saying we have to get rid of rick trickett the OL is garbage and jimbo needs to let him go, we havent been good since 14 but we didnt let him go till jimbo left and taggart got in, i mean fix the cracks now before they start becoming really big problems, i follow NOLES247 podcast and they were saying that i think its a sad trend where big time players are able to get snatched by other powerhouse programs, i mean look at hunter and yes that was a a 1 in a million thing that happened but of course that wouldnt happpen again, but look at kentrick faulk from last year and now KJ bolden, i mean we had him locked down big and georgia was just able to go in for 1 visit and take him from us, like we need to fix that and be aware of other programs tactics and learn to be better at closing players. Yes we did get a really good class and alot of good really good players, but honestly ill rip the band aid off and say this we cant only rely on the portal to get the main guys we need, we need to do better in high school recruiting especially after a 13-0 season, i understand about the snub and the ACC BS and the Orange bowl game and everything. but STILL, ur undefeated and 13-0, you should be able to get the much better recruits after a crazy good year.
i do think coaching changes need to happen or they need to be talk to, and they need to get better i mean look at dugans, he was getting fire on him in 21 but then made big changes and he is recruiting really good now, look at this class for 24 and he was able to get johnny and keon. DT needs to get better, odell is awesome but i think its the same with trickett, older coach cant be as aggressive as he was before, so retire, then get shannon off the team, he looks for a specific kind of LB and thats not good, then get better at the DE, yes the transfer portal is good but need to be better at high school guys. cant keep relying on the portal to be our easy way out. i think pretty soon NIL deals will be bigger and more money will be at stake where the players want or have to stay cause of their NIL deals where the transfer portal will slowly get less and less players.
If these coaches are developing transfers well enough I don't know that high school recruiting is really that important anymore honestly

Norvell knows what he is doing. Some of those recruits went to the team that gave them more money. Developing players is fine. People are panicking for no reason.
By the way I wouldn't want Cristobal or someone like him as coach because he recruits, but then ruins the players.
Mike will never win a title at FSU. His unwillingness to cut ties with coaches to improve the roster will be why. The lack of DE, DT, and LB commits over the last 3 years is startling to show.
Yeah and cameron also got a problem with the Buccaneers coach and what do they have in common. The TE coach needs to go a lot more than anyone but crickets!!

I don't understand the recruiting thing. What exactly is a good recruiter doing that a bad recruiter is not? I mean its all about making and staying in contact, I am assuming that all coaches are doing that, so what exactly separates a bad vs good recruiter.
I think some people are more people people and likeable. You listen to mike Norvell in his speeches and everything inside of me wants to run through a brick wall. I have never met him and am long past playing any sport at a college level. Vs you listen to other guys in their press conference and you toning out and not listening to the end. At least someone like odel has countless draft picks he has recruited signed and developed into draft picks. Other than Fabian lovett I can’t think of many people on the dline before 2022. The last two years they have played awesome. Why worry too much of who will be there in 2025. With the portal no position group is safe.

If a portal player wants to take other visits that means the coaching staff needs to change up there strategies to get that player we lost alot of targets to programs that want be in the playoffs I think they are looking for the highest bid not championship
If Mike Norvell doesn’t work out at FSU we will know exactly the reason why. You only get one shot at a big time program and if you fail there is no next time at another big time program

Develop blue chip HS talent. Bowden pulled 7 of his QBs from the same high school in Tallahassee and an 8th (Heisman winner) from a school a mere 30 miles away.

Yeah I'll have to agree with that. The coaches did a great job. Norvell play calling was a bit questionable but you can't argue with 13-0

13-1 is what we will be remembered for. Name the non Championship seasons that equaled this year: 94, 97, 87, 86, another???
88 even though we got beat down in the opener and 92 we were arguably the best team in the nation that year.

Did all the coaches just receive raises? If so, we are screwed and Norvell is soft. This staff will never be elite. Sad but true. This staff would t last a season in the sec
Much as I'm gonna get hate for this, I think Norvell/FSU should rehire Jimbo Fisher because he's a solid recruiter and motivator to FSU program.
