Very often we take youtube postings like this for granted. I have a 1993 15 HP Johnson, and I wanted to clean the carb. Your video enabled me to get at the carb in 5 minutes ! The little metal rod was the clincher ! Thank you very much !
I have a 1993 Evinrude 9.9 and needed to clean/rebuild the carb. I was thinking about paying for a mechanic to do it since I’ve never done it before- watched your video ONE time and was able to knock the job out and get the motor running like a sewing machine again in less than an hour without any hiccups. Spent about $20 in parts. Thank you!
Great. Video, I have 9.9 2004 two stroke (same motor different intake turning 9.9 to 15). You are 100% correct plastic cover must not have a crack and gaskets must be clean. I simply buy a kit when I redo carb every five years or so. Also a good idea to clean exterior of carb accumulation of dirt sometimes finds its way into jets. This is my 10th Johnson over the last 50 years. Sad to see Johnson and Evinrude go out of business. Nothing like a 9.9-15 kicker with a tiller handle on a small boat. I grew up building wood boats and have had a few larger ones over the years. Still like the feel of a 14-16 boat with a Johnson. Thanks for keeping it real and alive. Really enjoyed your video.
Thank you!!! I was trying to access my carborator on my 15hp johnson without messing up so I can fog it for the winter and you showed me within the first few minutes! I've been watching a ton of videos and not a single one except yours showed me those few steps! Thank you!
Hey, thanks so much for making this video. I'm a girl trying to figure out my old fishing boat and motor I just got. You're making it easy to learn!!!!
Thank you for video. I had my Johnson outboard 15 just like in your video sitting on the floor for about 2 years and tried to start it and turns on for about 10 seconds then shut off and could not get it to Restart. I hope a carb cleaning would do the trick! 👍👍 Going to try this this week.Thank again for the Video! I didn’t even know where the carburetor was till I seen this.👍👍✌️😎
I went to a thrift store and bought an aluminum cake pan to do my carb cleans in. That way when I dump out the fuel in the bowl I can see if it's cruddy or there is water in there. This also lets you know if you should flush the fuel line and fuel pump. Might also need to flush the tank.
If I may, that topside plastic tab on your air box is partly broken. It should be "J" shaped to hold that throttle cable safely away from that spinning flywheel. Regards !
Hola buen dia tengo el mismo motor..arranca y cuando acelero el motor se para..como si se quedara sin combustible..el carburador esta perfecto..sera la bomba d nafta??? Me seria util una ayuda
I have a Johnson 94 9.9 hp on my boat and a 25 hp Johnson sitting with compression issues. If I throw on the newly rebuilt 25 hp carb would it work and make it go faster? Not sure what else I'd need to add off my old motor? Great video. I have been looking for days on any information. Thank u
Congratulation for excellent video very good for me with clear esplications but i have a question for you : when you take in hands carburator i can't see accellerator wire how you deconnect it or is that you deconnect under starter black cap? thanks in advance for answer
Thanks for the video man. My carb is also missing the screw opposite to the drain plug screw in the bowl. Looked on a schematic and it’s called a high speed orfic. Why don’t both of our carbs have these? Can this be why my carb keeps flooding?
Hi...I have a question for you 😇 It's possible to modify a 9.9 Johnson (Year 2005) to 15 hp...?? I need a new carburettor, and what else..?? Thanks... E greetings from Italy..😇😃😉 (excuse my terrible english)
Very nice video. I have the same exact engine but a 94. I am having trouble keeping it idling. I’ve replaced the primer bulb, rebuild fuel pump, rebuild the carburetor, new spark plugs. And still no idling. It will run good, but then just dies. I have messed with the air/fuel mixture and got it to idle pretty good. But when I go back to start it, it won’t stay idling. Any thoughts? Also the engine has been sitting for quite some time, and looks to almost like brand new
@@outboardsandtoys8413 great to hear! I got a 9.9 evinrude from 1992. Had the worst time trying to get it to run. I rebuilt the carb 3x over, new plugs, wires, ignition coils, power pack, fuel pump, water pump, thermostat, took the block out and replaced all major gaskets and still wouldnt fire/hold idle. I ended up using pb blaster small engine tune up, and bam, now runs great. All that work and it was gummed/carboned up.
helou, i have a problem with outboard johson 35 hp 91, i´m from argentina and i can not found the piece i need to replace, if you give me your email i could send you a picture, and maybe you can help me, i just need to know the name of this piece. thanks. yael

May grandfather just gifted me his wooden boat and it has one of these on it I’m pretty pleased everyone seems to love these motors

Seeing that start and idle is a beautiful thing. It’s almost zen.
Thank you for that. I’m getting ready to perform the exact same thing. Watching this gives me more confidence. 👍

God bless you for this video....couldn't have done it without you
I really like how the carburetor comes off after removing the choke leaver. Easy peasy.
Super good job buds.
That's some reality right there.
I sure appreciate.

Just got 93 15 hp thank you very well done.
One of those 7/16 nuts that hold the carb on are hard to get a wrench on. I ground down one of my closed end wrenches to get it off.
Great job on this video, good detail
Dam you’re a genius! Brilliant video

Good video, great detailed info
Can you provide more info on the push to start button, i have a johnson 9.9 and I don’t have that, can you point me in the right direction? TIA.
Are you missing the little square gasket thar should go inside the bottom of the float bowl?

Yes sir that is your high speed jet that's why it's flooding out
Very well explained. thank you.
Great video thanks for sharing 5/5/23

I have the exact year 1993 Johnson 9.9 (J10RET) long shaft. Can you tell me what part number is that starter? mine has a slot for me to add it.
Very good my friend
what fuel mixture for this engine is 1:100 or 1:50
Great video, were you spraying cleaner on the carb as you were working on it? Can you spray the cleaner on anything except the seals? Thanks
Yes anything metal nothing rubber cause sometimes it will ruin the gaskets and seals
@@outboardsandtoys8413 really appreciate this
Thanks for the info I'm subscribed

Does the throttle cable/linkage have any adjustments
Did you get the problem fixed? I have the exact same issue on a 91!
I have same issues on a 94 anyone sorted this problem yet
Thank you!
Did you replace the push button start ? I also have a 15 Johnson and I need a new push button any advice ?
Yes i just went to my local parts store got a push button that would fit it
@@outboardsandtoys8413 ok thanks I’m gonna do that then.
Can you put a link to the mixture process on this motor
On the screw on the carb. How many turns out from lightly seated does johnson reccommend. Mine needs adjusted and idle where to start
I usually go 1 and a half turn then lightly adjust it from there not all carbs are adjustable on the mixture
É para venda,? Qual o valor.
Your bowl is missing the gasket that sits on the bottom of the bowl.
This motor is still running great today

hey im trying to get a jonson 15 hp 1985 running again after 20 years. it wont start you have any tips to that i can do?
See if it has spark if it does u will probably need a good carb clean
Also take spark plugs out oil cylinders since it has sat that long that way wont scar your piston walls when u turn it over
@@outboardsandtoys8413got it running. but it needs a new fuel pump. thanks for the tips.
Why does my boat make a alarm noise when tunning?
Is it 2 stroke if it is its ethier hot or oiler if four stroke it could be many things
How do u adjust the idle on this motors ??
Did you get yours done as I'd like to know the same thing
