Y’all missed one very important fact. T-Elos.
KOS-MOS is Mary’s soul and that is why she was needed but T-Elos was Mary’s body. She was created to make Mary whole again. She was originally supposed to absorb KOS-MOS but that actually went in reverse during their last battle, thus making Mary whole in KOS-MOS who had her free will instead of T-Elos who would have followed Wilhelm.

This video just showed me how little of the plot I really understood, thanks for this summary.
To set the pronunciation of some terms straight, because people somehow mispronounce the following:
KOS-MOS is pronounced as "kOHs-mOHs". People either pronounce it like "KOSS-MOSS" or "cosmos" and while these pronunciations may make sense to some, those pronunciations are not how the games say it. It's "kOHs-mOHs."
U-DO is pronounced as "ooo doo", and it's for the same reasons.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

That is an incredibly deep story with plenty of esoteric themes thrown in. I wish I would have gotten an opportunity to play it.

I think it's worth noting how you didn't mention Albedo/Rubedo/Nigredo at all, and yet the story is still complete and makes sense. It's been a couple of years since I played the trilogy, and despite the relationship to U-DO it's interesting how in the (literal) "grand scheme" things their actions were not worth mentioning. Jr and Albedo are definitely still 2 of my fav characters in the game though!

Lol yea. The game doesnt do a great job at explaining itself unless u read all the database stuff. To be fair. It was suppose to be a 6 part story and they were already behind scheduale with the story on the 1st game as the 2nd game was actually SUPPOSE to be the last part of the 1st gMe
@@LoadingGears and then the second games battle system was such shit that they lost a lot of people willing to buy the 3rd gane, which lead to the story ending on a cliffhanger. Which is unfortunate, because the 3rd game had the best battle system by far
It makes me so sad that they cut these games short and slashed the budget. So many of the plot holes and vagueness were probably set to be filled in the original iteration of the games as a 6-part series.

@@zakikhan814 there were 3 games actually. But the 3rd game included a library within the game that told you about all the events that happened between 2 and 3 during a years time. It’s a ton of reading but getting that back story does help in fully understanding everything.
it's not a spiritual successor it's an actual predecessor to xenogears, that's the reason so many themes repeat throughout both stories. citan is the grandchild of shion uzuk. the initial plan was for a six part series followed by a remake/re imagining of xengears since square refused to give up the rights to xenogears
UDO = You Do = Thou Shalt.........though shalt is the dragon enemy of Nietzsches "I will" lion. The games in the series are all named after a book by Nietzsche

I appreciate this video. Beat the trilogy less then a year ago. This helped solidify some things I already knew and introduced a few things I didn’t catch. The database in the 3rd game helped too of course. All I’ll say is this. If anyone sees a Zohar in Kenya and it gets moved to Toronto Canada, then things are in motion again and we are indeed doomed.

Chris Trujillo “we” as bad guys were trying to find a resolution to the over population problem other than the whole reset cycle that the failsafes were program to. The main goal of Shion and friends were to stop the reset cycle from happening and extend life with a beginning and end as it should be.
But what it would result in regardless is eventual overpopulation and domain breakdown and ultimately the destruction of the current reality. So yeah, they are badguys in a traditional sense.
Robert Lawson Nope, balance is needed between the 2 domains when taking the finite or infinite number of souls from the collective unconscious. That's how they can avoid overpopulation. The UMN was a link between 2 worlds that eventually attributed to imbalance of the 2 domains along with UDO's interference. Episode 3 ended with half of the universe going back to the collective unconscious and the UMN link dead. So that's step one already for the survivors how to keep the 2 domains balanced.
@@pallafox But now with the UMN link severed and an inability for the transfer of beings from the 2 dimensions they will ultimately become unbalanced and destroy each other. For example, the reason why they can't travel at light speed at the epilogue of the game, they can no longer transfer back and forth. Therefore the dead will again vastly overpopulate the living and boom, end of the world.
Robert Lawson the U.M.N. built by vector Industries is no longer functioning. The other U.M.N. Which existed prior technology transfers/transactions AKA as the collective subconscious is still alive and working. The transfer of physical beings to the higher plane after death doesn’t rely on the VECTOR built U.M.N. the vector built technology allowed communication between the 2 dimensions in the past that allowed UDO to interfere

I like your video I’m not gonna lie I was expecting like a full explanation of the entire story from game 1 to 3 , but I like it a lot
I'm doing an explanation of the whole story in chronological order. Its bot complete but I'm currently working on the script for the 3rd game. Meaning I'm mostly done. It has like 6 videos of backstory lore before I even touch on the first game

NONE of this is what I got out of the 3 games for the most part. or I REALLY don't remember. but shit, a FUCK TON of this went waaaaay over my head when I played these back in the day. and I was too damn old for that. early 20's... I mean I'm slow (seriously, I'm a bit slow) but grief if I don't feel dumb knowing I didn't catch hardly ANY of this while I was playing the games.

@@XanderVJ SADLY episode 3 made no god dam sense to me story-wise, it started to go incoherently near the end adding Jesus to the story, it left massive plot-holes in it when you add the other elements from episode 1 & 2, AND it left us with a cliffhanger ending for an episode 4 we never got... that would connect Xenosaga to Xenogears!?
@@fortkavanagh Should have mentioned that the emphasis was on "spiritual".
They were never going to Remake "Xenogears" in the traditional sense, that's a common misconception from recently new coming or casual fans. Keep in mind "Xenogears" and "Xenosaga" are different IPs owned by different companies. They legally couldn't Remake the game even if they wanted to. By the time they arrived to the rough equivalent to "Xenogears", the story would have had a lot of parallels, but it wouldn't be the same.
Once you accept that, the story of the trilogy stands pretty nicely on its own. I personally loved Episode 3,and thought it was a really satisfying ending. There are still a few threads that could have been resolved better since they are explained in the in game data base, rather than in dialogue, but the story is far from incomprehensible if you pay attention.
And the ending is not an cliff-hanger. It's an open ending. How you can tell the difference? Because by the end of episode 3, all the characters had completed their personal arcs.
By the time they made episode 3 they knew the series would not continue any further due to its underperforming, so they went for that approach.
@@XanderVJ even so... The connectsions & references to Xenogears is "TOO UNCANNY", and in-a-way it pulls me out of the story!
Like you said "there are still a few threads that could have been resolved better" and that also pulls me out of it, like WHY are they always keep bringing up god in the game when it's very obvious that aliens made everything and humans just salvaged what's left, the introduction of new enemies via the religious enemies without explanation, and constantly referencing things that are forbidden and not explaining it... it confuses the hell out of me!
AND... ABOVE ALL ELSE!... the "Original plan" for Xenosaga was there was SUPPOSED to be "SEVEN EPISODE" to Xenosaga and "NOT THREE", BUT because there were bad decisions made during the development of episode 2 that caused it to sell less copies than episode 1 the seven episode plan was scraped and replaced with episode 3, AND the ending of episode 3 with "a damaged Kosmos in orbit over earth"... "STILL FEELS" very unsatisfying and more like a cliffhanger to me, AND if they made an episode four... with that story would "in-some-way" link-up perfectly with xenogears via a DEUS related McGuffin? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacGuffin

I have a question. Just purely going off of gears and saga alone. Could ANY of the xeno games be happening at the same time??? I mean just gears alone is 10.000 years!!! And I've heard people say from time to time that both xenoblade 1 and 2 happen at the same time. Just in different realities or dimensions. And what about xenoblade x?
All the different Xeno series are technically their own universes (as far as we can tell) but there’s definitely enough crossover to theorize they’re connected. With the relation between gears and saga, considering saga as a reboot, Saga is supposed to be the first chapter in that universe. It was originally gonna be 3 duologies, with Xenosaga 1-3 originally being Episode 1 and 2, and 3 and 4 were gonna be the Xenogears reboot. When Lost Jerusalem returned and Abel and Nephilim (Fei and Elly) were sent there as well as the Anima, Animus, and all the lost souls sent there. This could be taken as Xenogears being 10,000 years after the end of saga, with that world being the rebirth of humanity on Lost Jerusalem. The final 2 episodes of Xenosaga, or Xenogears Episode 6 (gears is referred to as Episode 5 after the credits of that game), would have been the final chapter of that universe, presumably being another time skip after gears and was supposed to be about the collapse of the universe referred to in Xenosaga, and how this last stage of the universe and humanity would end up. Maybe one day we can finally get a story about that finale, hell that could be what’s Xenoblade 3 is gonna be for all we know.

I'm really sorry for these questions. I'm only caught up on gears, saga and blade 1 so far. I haven't had the chance to play blade x or blade 2.

The funniest part of it is most of Xenosaga is not made directly by the people who made Xenogears. The outline was done by Tetsuya Takahashi and Soraya Saga (the two people who directed, and wrote the main plot Xenogears) and they were in those same rolls for Episode 1, and the beginning of Episode 2, but Soraya left, and Takahashi took more of a producer role instead of director role during Episode 2 as well. Most of what we got as Xenosaga is in fact not 1st hand created or directed from the original creators of Xenogears. It is more overseen and given outline to by them.

Xenogears is my favorite RPG ever. I didn't get even halfway through Xenosaga 1 before dropping it out of boredom and disinterest. After watching this review, its not surprising.
I don't know why, but Gears did such a better and more coherent job of telling a story that implicated cosmic phenomena and existentialism that it is almost hard to believe they were done by the same people.
Maybe because the whole reality thing is seen within the Deus system, and as the human creation it is? While only the energy source, Zohar through the Wave Existence, is "non-human". Hahah lol. I haven't played saga, only gears

If you think the writers are the same between XenoGears and XenoSaga, you might want to take a closer look at who the writers and directors are for XenoSaga 2 and 3. Perhaps look up Soraya Saga. Your pronunciation also shows you never played XenoSaga.

Same developers (haven't checked into it) but presumably similar themes, based upon the similarities between Xenogears and Xenosaga.

Also, overpopulation is caused by the swift assimilation of the collective unconscious due to the gnosis wiping out phsyical beings within the real number domain. The rules of reincarnation doesn't apply to everyone like in Xenogears, reincarnation is only permitted to key players who wield the anima and animus as they need to exist within the real number domain to keep the failsafe active incase a reset needs to happen. Simply put the whole universe as motherboard with all its key functions including a failsafe to reboot the system if it overheats, otherwise it collapses and dies. In this case, only Mary, Chaos, and Mary's Maiden are capable of reincarnation. The testaments don't quantify for this either, they were simply chosen by Wilhelm to remain in the real number domain to stimulate the key players to access Zarathustra.

We researched it not played. So for the most part if we watched videos they were used to find the story we didn't focus on the names.

@@TrueMastersandMorons I mean that’s kinda lame, if the lack of pronunciation doesn’t already spell it out, the lack of the critical thinking about plot elements is frustratingly spotty. I’m not going to say they have air tight lore to this game, but saying a plot element exists “because reasons” is just a failure to see the bigger picture. If you ever get the opportunity, just watch the cutscenes from this game. It is a fantastic adventure, and in my opinion Shion is one of the most well developed female leads I see out of any story. Often times game protagonists are male sword wielders and she just really cuts that trope for a character who is successfully feminine and vulnerable while still being the party leader.
I enjoy Xenogear and XenoBlade. But I never could get into xenosaga

As much as I like xenosaga explanation this whole vid came off as people who detest the game and making awful remarks to it, it's sad and frankly annoying I'm a fan of it and has to be one of the most disrespectful and unprofessional and unethical Xeno vid ever 🙄🙄🙄
