I will eventually do the Xenoblade games, but for now I want to step back and focus on a few of the unfinished series (if you feel it's been too long, then by all means shout for it in the comments, as I do need reminders). I really like the music and battle system in this one, and while I understand the rushed-story reasons in the game's development, the rewrite is only ok to me. Really enjoyed these videos. I never finished 3 so it was nice to get a rundown of the story. But I gotta say this, the original Xenogears was the best game of all time.
Yep, the story is as ridiculously convoluted as I remember. This must have been a pain to retell, especially with such detail. Amazing work again, mate.
And so Kos-Mos drifted off into space where she later was entrapped into a crystal. Where then she was released from her crystal and helped a weird boy with a ridiculous accent, and his tsundere girlfriend. They then went on to there grand adventure to climb a tree.
No she ends up drifting to Lost Jerusalem. Where it is suggested that they start the bloodline of Citan Uzuki who is in Xenogears who then encounters the new Abel.
Honestly ya. A lot happens, but overall its not that confusing in the end. Universe was doomed to end. Chaos, willhelm, and Mary all try to stop it in various ways, with Willhelm's method being timeline reset which works for a few loops. His loops involve Kevin and everyone else, until Shion and Kosmos and the group in this reality decide "f this, lets try and fix the universe without eternal looping". Everything else is politics and lore that has its own messages and importance but are secondary to that core timeloop story. I wrote this summary for my own benefit btw.

I really feel like Xenosaga III did justice to the series. I love focus the on KOSMOS / TELOS rivalry. This edition also had the most fun battle system & Gears fights finally got good too! Finally, Shions best design.
And now with xenosaga being in the credits of the xenoblade 3 dlc, it basically confirms that KOS-MOS returned to earth after the credits, at least I think.
@dorothydreams oftornadoes Hm... Okay, fair enough. Now that I think back, he's depicted as one of Jesus's apostles in Episode 3. But the name Wilhelm uses for him at the end of Episode 2 is one form of the name 'Jesus'.
@dorothydreams oftornadoes With all the turns the development of what ended up as a trilogy, it's difficult to say for sure one way or the other. And, hey, what looked like Jesus in Episode 3 might well have been John the Baptist. (I mean, the game seems to ship chaos and KOS-MOS/Mary Magdalene fairly overtly, and who was the Mary Magdalene "shipped" with in some version of the Bible? Rhetorical questions, leading up to the conclusion that it is still completely fair to suggest that chaos *is* Jesus.)

The best part is when Jr. doesn't like somebody (Kevin), he will impulsively whip out his pistols and start firing away without warning Also, the Kevin/Shion pendant that resonated with the Earth Ruins and then sent everybody inside the spacial portal to the past, back in time - I would have liked to believe this was Marle's pendant from Chronotrigger which also resonates with portals to send people through time. (though it probably isn't) I also believe that Kos-Mos's body was the remains of Shion's mother. Since Kos-Mos doesn't have Mary's body (that's Telos') it begs to question: whose body is Kosmos's? Which is my understanding to explain the strong attachment Shion had to Kos-Mos, as well as the protective instincts Kos-Mos has towards Shion. It also is my way to explain why diving into KosMos's memory ended up bringing everybody to Militia (where Shion's mom was hospitalized). Shion never knew. We know that Shion's mom's conscious waves were compatible with Zohar Udo and UMN, so it's probably a body suitable to store synch and store Mary's will. We also know that Kevin was one of the people conducting research on Shion's mom, as well as creator of KosMos. We also get the Mary flashback while Shion is in the past where she tries to save her mother. Having the Mary flashback in past-Militia seems random ..... unless... it's where Kosmos/Shion's mother is. I just figure when the mother was stabbed dead, Kevin couldn't let such a great Zohar/UMN synchronizer go to waste, and so he cyborged her and used the body to synch with Mary's will in the UMN, as well as modified her to be a war machine. Problem with this theory is that Kos-Mos is supposedly pure android, no human parts. But that doesn't really make sense to me because T-elos is supposedly the same as Kos-Mos but used the body of Mary? Ahhhhh xenosaga lore
I managed to find a sealed copy on eBay, and I've been playing it almost nonstop. I would pay obscene amounts of money to get an HD remake or a handheld port like Persona 4 getting Golden
So many twist, revelation, acceptance and cleavage to this ending. Oh boy, any there is still more. What are the other colonies gonna do while a new method of communication and travel is being developed? Won't a number of them fall into anarchy or something? Would've loved to have seen Earth after all this.
@@0Raik that's true but did you not see/hear that they were all absorbed by Nephilim, her taking those souls back into the Collective Subconscious? there are no Gnosis now. they used the UMN for travel and since that is gone (or more like not accessible to humanity/that plane of existence any longer), what she may have missed aren't a threat. my theory is that all the Souls collected will be reborn, given new bodies to live on Earth. another stretch theory is that the first Zohar incident was the catalyst to humanity's second mass destruction, the first supposedly being the Great Flood. but with space travel possible, a good amount were able to escape. now Nephilim and chaos, with KOS-MOS, are re-establishing it back. when that might actually be, who knows. but with all those souls safe, they will survive the universe's destruction. in my head, once a new travel and communication system is up, it will somehow have a permanence like the UMN had so when the universe does end and rebirth, it will be there for the rebirth of humanity to use. (which, deep theory, may be what the UMN was prior)
Maybe...but if they make a game out of that last bit of story then they need to make some kind of monster to fight against if were still talking about an jrpg. At this point you either kill gnosis, earth animals/monsters or you make it a visual novel.
@@0Raik the story that happened in the 6 months between the second and third games was supposed to be the other three games. Episode III was intended to be the last.which is why all the info dump of the Database was there. to catch us all up on what had happened. we didn't need it for the second cuz it literally happened right after the end of the first. but it's speculated that the Xenoblade Chronicles is, in essence, the sequels. and XenoGears features in there somewhere, but I'm not sure. the person who created Saga did work on Gears first soo there may be an underlying connection.
Earth didnt even exist during this time. They all left the planet because it was being destroyed by activating the zohar they discovered like 6000 years prior to all of these events.
Such an amazing series with a history of too much ambition and a waning interest from publishers. The ambition of the story was just too much for casuals of the series and to get the full story people really needed to start at part 1. This lead to waning sales as the series went on, which in turn leads to publisher disinterest. And the most disappointing part of all: Square not allowing the series to continue after Xenogears, a game beloved by some (myself included) even over Final Fantasy 7. I would love a remaster of the Saga games, and a remake of the Gears game, but I feel an anime series would do this story so much more justice.
yep! and i hated her for it. i found her increasing selfishness to be an absolute headache. yeah even in the first game you got the sense she was a little self centered, but she genuinely cared for her team mates and worried about them. in the second and third, she was too self absorbed, dismissing others over herself. and in several cases, refusing to think for herself and use common sense.
Thanks for doing these. I grew up watching my brother play xenogears only to be frustrated by these. Thanks for breaking it down. Liked xbc2 though but the story was faaaaaar simpler lol.
Last week I finally broke down, gave into throwing money into Nintendo’s face by picking up a Switch Lite. To put things into perspective, I haven’t had a Nintendo-anything since the N64. However, over the past few years I’ve started getting into Metroid a little more than I already was(by far my favorite Nintendo IP ever, no contest, with Xenoblade close behind it), and I played through and beat Xenogears on the PS1 which then sent me down the “XENO-“ rabbit hole so OBVIOUSLY that gets me looking towards Xenoblade Chronicles. Which then made me remember I use to own Xenosaga Ep.1 when I was like 8 so that shit flew right over my head and back onto a shelf at GameStop (I really hate Past-Me sometimes. Today I fucking love the concept of literally everything Takahashi have been trying to finally manifest since Xenogears though I still haven’t actually played Xenosaga reeeeally to change that someday). Now I’m just sitting and waiting for a Xenosaga port for the Switch that will never happen. Though one can dream can’t they? 😔 Anyway, since the Switch now has Xenoblade Chronicles 1&2, I felt I should pick one up because I really want to know what the fuck Takahashi’s endgame is and because I fucking love exactly everything these games are in terms of Themes and Narrative. And yes.... I also bought the Switch because I’m really excited that Metroid Prime 4 is actually finally within my grasp, God knows when the fuck I’ll be able to play it though since they started from scratch last year. I just hope it’s not pushed off the Switch and onto whatever console Nintendo releases next. That’d piss me off pretty good. So yea, don’t remember what the fuck I’m even rambling about anymore or why... I guess just to say I fucking love Takahashi’s “XENO-“ saga 😎
No they are more digestible, they are not basic and offer some ups and downs. FF is like the gold standard. The most convoluted story was FFVII and much like Xenogears and SaGa Frontier that all came out around the same time. They were broken stories that try to shove in to much to make up for the plot holes
Only 370,000 copies sold?? That's absolutely criminal. The 2nd game did not help, but I remember when this game came out they emphasized a return to tighter, more streamlined combat, and Episode III is arguably the best of the trilogy, with a more cohesive, better-paced story, the better combat, and the better character designs. Except KOS-MOS/Dinah. I liked the sleeker, shinier designs of them both in II.
@@dc7981 It really is. This, SMT3, and the DDS series were each more enjoyable to me than FFX or 12. Xenosaga swung for the fences and you just wouldn't get such balls to the wall sci fi lunacy today. Not even in 1 installment let alone 3
Actualy he is. When You read xeno works books it is explained that Abel = Fei = True god that forgot who he was / separated from '' Elly '' . Abel was reincarnated many times everytime findin his way to meet with her. In Xenogears it is even explained in main story who Fei/Abel is , who Elly is etc. :)
Shame xeno keeps getting its endings rush. If it had its intended 6 episodes just like if gears got the needed development time so disc 2 isn't a rushed finale. .. damn shame
From what I remember was the creator had trouble nailing the stories down and would continue to add and change things. This cause the projects to just take to long and cost to much. From what I remember Square Soft took away half the staff working on it to finish up FFVIII and had another director to keep the creator on track and work with the assets they had left.
they look alike but they are not. it's not the same universe, it's not the same story, Xenosaga is not a prequel or the episodes 1 to 3 of Xenogears. Xenogears is episode 5 of its own universe, but we know what happened in episodes 1 to 4 and it's not Xenosaga.
This game shows Shion at her lowest. Her decision making skill is really irritating that a reboot or a sequel is needed to redeem that. On side note, this game teaches me not to play games in front of my parents. Teen me got really panic when the bottomless Shion scene shows up suddenly
Ohh man. I hope this series get a chance to return. But the series needs a remade. And if they're gonna remade the series as a whole, they need to come with better ideas, refreshed, borrow some of the good features from the series and bring it to the modern era. -FIRST OF ALL, THE STORY. I would like to see some new content of the story. The story sequences as once Takahashi and Soraya had visioned and writing. No cuts, could have expanded more, at least for the trilogy. -2ND, THE ART/VISUAL STYLE. To be honest, Episode 3 characters art style was among the best and great looking visuals, even as of today. So why don't go with this type of art again? Characters, and the world itself with better and more detailed textures, especially for Episode 2? I think they need to maintain a current art style at least for 2 or 3 games. -3RD, THE COMBAT SYSTEM. Please, the series NEEDS a revamped and a overhauled combat system. Either go with a full turn-based battle system like the original ones, but the system needs to be modern, sleek, fluid, faster. Also they can go for a more similar Final Fantasy 13 active/turnbased battle system, OR, they can go for an action rpg, similar to games like FF7 Remake, Tales of Arise, Xenoblade Chronicles, The Legends of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki. -4TH, THE MUSIC. Since Monolith have Yasunori Mitsuda, let's bring back once more, one of the most talented woman in the series. Yuki Kajiura. Yasunori along with Yuki, they're gonna be able to create the most immersed and high takes soundtrack for the newly remade game. -5TH. EXPLORATION. The worlds and cities will be more open and explorative than before, along with a new camera sytem and 3rd person-view perspective, let you view around the new beauty of. This is some new ideas that they'll be able to come up and brings.
Now that I know the story to this series, I'm disappointed in myself for not playing them. It overall has a strange attractiveness to it, I'll have to give it a try. Breath of Fire is next now?! *flat lines in excitement* 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😵

300,000 thousand copies worldwide but ebay wants $400 just for one... >_>
So many twist, revelation, acceptance and cleavage to this ending. Oh boy, any there is still more. What are the other colonies gonna do while a new method of communication and travel is being developed? Won't a number of them fall into anarchy or something? Would've loved to have seen Earth after all this.
Earth is shit. I mean with all the gnosis teleported there...
We taking about planet size and bigger gnosis.
The only xenosaga game I was never able to play... feels bad man
Jin's Death: I haven't so much feels since Berserk's The Eclipse
oh ive been waiting for this!
Eating lunch while enjoying this.😊
Please please please, do Saga Frontier 2 recapitation!
Jin dying hit me pretty hard.
Same 😢
Hope you will do the utawarerumono series one day. The remake of the first game is coming soon.
here’s your two year reminder for Xenoblade
Man I loved this game when I was younger.
Love your vids!
I found the second and third games somewhat frustrating. Shion Uzuki was given the idiot ball and went from brilliant to bimbo.
yep! and i hated her for it. i found her increasing selfishness to be an absolute headache. yeah even in the first game you got the sense she was a little self centered, but she genuinely cared for her team mates and worried about them. in the second and third, she was too self absorbed, dismissing others over herself. and in several cases, refusing to think for herself and use common sense.
This game's music was top tier ❤
Thanks for doing these. I grew up watching my brother play xenogears only to be frustrated by these. Thanks for breaking it down. Liked xbc2 though but the story was faaaaaar simpler lol.
too bad this was cut down to 3 games. I still feel that there is more to be told here.
Just to add Voyager does have a real name lol it isn't just Voyager
Anyway, since the Switch now has Xenoblade Chronicles 1&2, I felt I should pick one up because I really want to know what the fuck Takahashi’s endgame is and because I fucking love exactly everything these games are in terms of Themes and Narrative.
My number 2 Favorite Turn RPG series on PS2
And I thought Final Fantasy had convoluted plots
No they are more digestible, they are not basic and offer some ups and downs. FF is like the gold standard.
The most convoluted story was FFVII and much like Xenogears and SaGa Frontier that all came out around the same time. They were broken stories that try to shove in to much to make up for the plot holes
Trails series recap
That would be like 72 hours long. 😂
So...resetting live in the universe, bad guy wanting to ascend to godhood. Doesnt get any more anime than this.
Jojo part 6
I'd like to see you do a recap on SMT: Devil Survivor or Lost Dimension if possible.
I really enjoyed the Xenosaga series! Thank you for recaping all three games! Would you consider doing Breath of Fire 3? 🙏🏼
Yaaaaay so happy for this
Only 370,000 copies sold?? That's absolutely criminal. The 2nd game did not help, but I remember when this game came out they emphasized a return to tighter, more streamlined combat, and Episode III is arguably the best of the trilogy, with a more cohesive, better-paced story, the better combat, and the better character designs. Except KOS-MOS/Dinah. I liked the sleeker, shinier designs of them both in II.
The games are just not good tbh
@@aetherwarrior4640 saga 3 is unironically peak ps2 jrpg and this is coming from an SMT/Shadow Hearts tard
@@dc7981 It really is. This, SMT3, and the DDS series were each more enjoyable to me than FFX or 12. Xenosaga swung for the fences and you just wouldn't get such balls to the wall sci fi lunacy today. Not even in 1 installment let alone 3
It's hilarious that they called one of the characters Kevin
god bless you oni. bloodmoon rises.
Why did they cut the story? Can someone tell me?
@Hkg 1 Damn, that sucks.
Thanks for answering!
@Hkg 1 Oh! At least they can still produce games.
*Mortal Kombat 11 Recap?*
Yesssssssssssss new oni
I wanted amd still want this game so bad. I played 1 and 2 but couldn't get my hands on 3
Any chance on a KH III (Remind included) RECAP?
I love ur content man
(Around 6:55) Wait isn't that the Main Character from Xenogears that gets Reincarnated?
Thank you very much.
Xenoblade chronicles 3 it’s happening baby! September
Abel is a baby Fei, change my mind
39:22 I don't think Xenosaga series enjoy their success at all.😹
Is Kos-mos Miang from Xenogears?
i have all 3 episodes of these games... i was sad after that year after finishing 3 that there would be no continuation....
oh i have xenogears dont get me wrong. i played, maxed out got the bested stuff for my gears grinded gil non stop and everything on xenogears...
Abel= FEI
Nephilim= Elly
Characters from xenogears
they look alike but they are not.
it's not the same universe, it's not the same story, Xenosaga is not a prequel or the episodes 1 to 3 of Xenogears.
Xenogears is episode 5 of its own universe, but we know what happened in episodes 1 to 4 and it's not Xenosaga.
A lot of biblical references throughout the series
Is there a 4 game story?
I would rather know what happens AFTER episode III. How will they stop the universe from disappearing?
This game shows Shion at her lowest. Her decision making skill is really irritating that a reboot or a sequel is needed to redeem that.
On side note, this game teaches me not to play games in front of my parents. Teen me got really panic when the bottomless Shion scene shows up suddenly
Then 10.000 years comes xenogears, were abel and shion are but faint memories.
it's not the asme universe, it's not the same story.
Xenosaga 1 and 3 are good, 3 being one of my favorite PS2 rpgs.
Xenosaga 2... ehhh, the RPG mechanics really hurt it.
This story hurt my brain. Is this a game and is it fun?
Its a very good jrpg. Good turned based battling. Hood story, amazing music. I put a lot of hours into this and the 1st game.
The best of the series.
Aizen!? You mean named of character of surname!?
