Well done, Chris, I knew you would do it. I had a friend who has sadly passed away, and it took him 12 years before he caught one. The only advise I can give you is, don't pull line off with your hand, you could give it a bit of slack line and it could slip the hook, let the fish do that. And if you manage to bring the net, play the fish until it's on it's side and guide it over the net, head first and it will be yours. A fish will never swim backwards, bring it in head first.
Thanks Brian, as I replied in other comments I was so shocked that I actually hooked a fish that all the amazing advice you and others had given me went out of my mind. Thanks for the support - Chris

Brilliant and congratulations Chris! Well done and it was well earned and deserved. Joy on your face and the first of many I'm sure. Nothing wrong with that landing and release! I tend to start big, my first fly caught sea trout was just short of 12lb!! Anyway, I can remember nearly all my fish over the years, most caught on spinner or worm as I fished the Severn but the one that really stands out is a my first fly caught salmon and it was caught on the Severn to boot, A nice silver 12lber caught on a home tied Munrow/shrimp variant! I've had a few more since. Keep up the good work but can I ask a favour. Can you bleep out the f word bits as I would like my 9 year old to enjoy your posts too....

Great for people to see there's nothing to fear trying Salmon fishing. You're a great ambassador. WD40 to clean and rid water from hard to reach places. Light grease, like silicon grease to lubricate and your reel will always work a treat.
So you know for next time, your salmon releasing could use some work. Hold the fish mouth pointing up river(preferably in the current), while holding the tail. No need to move the fish back and forth. When the fish is revived enough it will take off under its own power. The longer you play the fish, the longer the revive. If the fish is tired it may take 5 minutes. You should be able to sense the energy level of the fish. Salmon don't always bounce back quickly.
Thanks EarthFireDude 👍 for a complete beginner in Salmon fishing you would think that someone would have a made a "how to" video on it. I couldn't find anything, but thankfully my amazing viewers have helped me get it right for next time. Thanks for the advice👍

I’m gonna have my last splash on the tweed in a couple weeks at bemersyde and traquair. Hopefully they take 👍
Might see you in a couple of weeks then Jerry, am looking at some beats of the tweed before I head home - tight lines
@@CornishChrisTheFish Yep tight lines mate. I’ll be on bemersyde 8th and 9th nov and traquair 10 and 11th. Bit pricey but thought I’d finish on a high ! Both highly recommended - they’re on fishpal.
Great for people to see there's nothing to fear trying Salmon fishing. You're a great ambassador.
WD40 to clean and rid water from hard to reach places. Light grease, like silicon grease to lubricate and your reel will always work a treat.
Thanks 👍 I just do my best. With your advice I am certain to be "lubed up" correctly 😆👍
Finaly :) nice done sir :) Hei å hå.
It's party time!! Thanks, it's been a long time coming - appreciate the support - Chris
Congratulations it's great breaking your duck,it's a great feeling, try to remember your net you could need it at any time, cheers.
Thanks William 👍
I am guessing the batteries ran out before the actual take? It's always nice to see a novices reaction when they realise there's a salmon hooked. Well done, though.
No, unfortunately I wasn't recording I wasn't expecting to catch anything again and then...bang - total shock - thanks for taking the time to watch my video and comment though - much appreciated - Chris
Never use wd40 it desolves the grease in the reels you can get spray cans of silicone oil to use
Thanks Neil great advice
@@CornishChrisTheFish any type of grease you have at hand you could use cooking oil for a quick fix but thick grease is best lasts longer
@@neilandrew961 thanks Neil
