I noticed when looking for filters some offer the whole plastic casing that the filter goes in and some just have the filter without the housing... Can the old housing be reused with a new filter? Thanks!
2 years later, what are your thoughts on the WIX filter/gasket kit?...i like that its considerably cheaper but i saw some people complain about the gasket not being good...
@@GrimRepair that's interesting...right now on Amazon Canada i can get a Wix filter and gasket kit for $63...the Mopar filter alone is $58, on sale!. In any case I will try them out..thanks for responding!
Probably if it is up higher than the pan. There will still be old fluid in the torque converter. This is not a flush it is a drain and fill you need a machine for that.
Where'd you get that gasket, I have a bunch of 2019/2020 Dodge Grand Caravans and can't find a transmission pan gasket anywhere. We made the last one. The RTV solution is stupid as hell and doesn't work well.
Anytime you drop the pan you may as well do the filter. I keep a fleet, and we are overly cautious. We shoot for every 50,000 miles on the freeway vans and every 30,000 on our in town ford full size vans.
@@GrimRepair Thanks for your quick reply. The problem is local shops recommend just to do the flush instead of doing the full service such as filter and new fluid. Dealer's shops... Well, I almost got into the fight with the shop manager. They charged me $360.00 to do the filter and new fluid. They didn't touch a pan at all. What a rip off.
Nice video, man. My girl somehow bent the transmission pan on her van, now it's leaking fluid. I think I have to keep putting fluid in it until the new pan comes in a few days Any advice on it ???
What is the black cover/pan on the front/side? Has the longer bolts. I have a van were those two bolts are magically missing the nuts. Transmission fluid leaking.
So how sure are you that it isn't low on fluid or to much you need to get the universal dipstick to check levels after you start it and put it through all the gears
Thanks. It's a 3/8 this was the best price I could find with the ratchet battery and charger, and it also comes with a drill. These battery powered impacts changed my life for the better. amzn.to/3VzWuMq

This van is part of a fleet. We got hundreds of thousands of miles out of the few t&c we had. If you put in what you take out and don't have any leaks, why would you need a special dipstick?
That is probably total capacity including the torque converter. We aren't able to drain and fill the torque converter, without removing the transmission.
@@GrimRepair That means you did a "refreshing" not a "replacement". Drain the pan one more time (drive a few miles between both drais) and that will puts you closer to a "replacement". P.S. Collect the fluid that comes out the, measure it and put the same quantity of fresh fluid .
Many new vehicles are like that with the transmission pans. Why would they add another plug for someone to drain incorrectly? The manuals say that you can't drink the washer fluid. An extra drain plug is a legitimate concern with the majority of consumers.
Great video, I hope my husband will learn this.

When doing this this does it drain the side pan also where the solenoid switches are so the new fluid doesn't mix with the old thanks.

At what mileage do you recommend to change the filter?

The dealership doesn't recommend to use a gasket but instead Chrysler RTV. So why did you use a gasket?
It's cleaner, faster, easier, cheaper, and it doesn't leak just the same.
