my thoughts, as a character designer: the tri-pointed hair is a character design thing. notice how wendy and max are related but have completely different designs? it's because they have different in-game purposes and personalities. wilson and wagstaff are both scientists created early on in development. if you look closely, willow has 3 points in her hair as well - they all form W's, a reference to the game's naming convention. it also gives them defined silhouettes. in my mind, there's absolutely no reason this trait would link the two. all it tells us from a design perspective is that they have similar roles and were likely created around the same time.
Between Maxwell and Wendy just add a mustache and Maxwell looks like her uncle. Willow is an Orphan so we don't know who she's related to but that doesn't matter. As far as humoring this theory goes the animation hints that Wilson and Wagstaff as the same person what with Wilson's house and Wagstaff goggles on the desk. Of course it's merely coincidence so Klei is most likely hinting something else.

I would agree with you however in the single player version of don’t starve his hair was completely different and he did not have that same widows peak as now. And in this short it is now pretty much an exact replica of Wilson’s except for the curl being on a different side

Talking only about facts here, we know Wilson bought Wagstaff old house, and at the end of that animation, it seems that Wagstaff is now again out at his old house (Wilson house) watching trought the portal Wilson constructed. So Wagstaff is out of the Constant now. Wilson and Wagstaff are the two starting characters in DS if you have all the DLCs. Wanda, she saw the entire timeline, Wanda only really seems to be want to talk with Wagstaff, Wilson and Willow of something important. And petty much ignores everyone else or only does small talk with them. Everything is possible, Wanda provees time travel / timeline travel to be possible, it is possible that they are the same person. POSSIBLE, but probably just related. (names does not really matter here, we have two characters with changed names).

I always thought that it was possible Wilson didn't live in present times. In the Don't Starve trailer, he had no sign to show he even knew what the outside world was like. He still had one of those 40's radios, a very old time-y knack for science and a creative block that just left him sitting there. I don't know where the clothes could be from, but certainly not from any recent era. I'm convinced that Maxwell pulled people from different places and times. Another thought. What if Maxwell pulled Wagstaff into the constant first? In Webber's short, he obviously had some connection to the constant, at least enough of one to be able to take spiders from there to be studied. Was he originally helping Maxwell, refused, so the Maxwell got his younger version in order to get help from him? It seems the only thought going through Maxwell's in Don't Starve was just leaving the chair, and maybe Wagstaff saw him in the chair, refused to take his place, and Maxwell sought his more impressionable version, Wilson. Maybe his name is Wilson Wagstaff? This might be a stretch, but I thought it was interesting.
One more thing. If you watch the short, you'll see a watch when he opens the chest. Is that Wanda's? Because it looks similar... There was also a book, files named "Volume III", and something else.

The events of Wilson being transported to the Constant don't exactly give a set year, time, or date, so he could be a distant relative of the once renowned family of inventors that died anywhere ranging from the time of Wilson's birth, to decades predating his birth, or even a century predating his birth, indicating it could have been a _very_ long time since anyone in his lineage has done any substantial form of inventing or research, technically making him the first after a generation or more of his lineage to continue pursuing supernatural sciences and arts that had been previously lost to a deadly fire.

I think you're miss reading rhe obvious, wagstaff isn't Wilson but the one who caused others to become trapped in the constant, causing maxwell to continue to bring others in through wagstaff's inventions and likely hunt him, while wagstaff uses a projection to explore the constant while still sitting outside it either in a attempt to study or monetize it.
