This is my reaction to Roy And HG Men's Gymnastics (Sydney Olympics 2000)
In my last video I reacted to Roy and HG commentary on Men's Wrestling on their show The Dream at the Sydney Olympics 2000 and a lot of people asked me to check out their commentary on Men's Gymnastics.

Back when I first started listening to them, Roy and HG had a 4-5 hour block on the Radio once a week called 'This Sporting Life'. Between them, they've managed to get that sports commentary delivery-style so locked down it can be difficult to tell whether they're taking the piss or not. Everything's done pretty much deadpan, and a lot of the things they say are no sillier or weirder than actual sports commentary.

OMG....Thankyou for watching this Roy & HG, the memories this bought back!! The old battered sav, flat bag, crazy date and hello boys!! These two made the Sydney Olympics even more special for all us Aussies. After watching the games all day and night, we'd stay up to late to around 10pm or 11pm before it started in the West, it was worth waiting up for!!! What these two came up with were truly exceptional and was the hottest tickets in town during the Olympics, well bigger than the Olympics themselves. It was what everyone would talk about the next morning and you wouldn't find anyone who hadn't heard of them. You would always be left in tears at the end of the show from laughter and couldn't wait for the next one. My favourites were definitely the gymnastics, my Mum would be in fits of laughter and just about wet herself every time watching them, and the synchronised swimming and wrestling. They turned some of the most boring sports in the funniest sports. I loved some of the Winter games stuff, especially the curling, that was one of their favourites. Hope you watch some more of their Olympic coverage, it truly is fantastic.

They became so big on radio, that they were given a variety show on ABC TV. Prime time, Friday night. It was called Club Buggery, and the fact that the could call it that on the government owned National Broadcast Service shows just how important they were. Each year, for the AFL Grand Final, they would do a "Live Coverage" purporting to be at the actual event, with the joke being that they were at ABC Radio House, in a studio, watching it on television. They would make jokes about needing umbrellas when the rain started, or how windy it was, and later on Roy would ask HG what he thought about a commercial in an ad break (no ads on the ABC. I think they were watching Channel 7, a commercial network.) Good irreverent stuff.

Apart from the battered sav double entendre, a battered sav in Oz is a convenience food consisting of a saveloy sausage with a stick pushed through it. It is then dipped in batter and deep fried, hence battered sav.

It’s hard to imagine the Roy and HG have been icons of sports commentary on radio and tv in Australia now for 37 years! For years, I’d watch the rugby league (State of Origin) games on tv with the sound turned down and turn up the radio for Roy and HG’s live simulcast. I doubt the world has anything to match these geniuses of sporting comedy.

I enjoy every one of your reaction man. Thoroughly enjoyable & being an Aussie, I’m able to relate to all your comments.
We have another Aussie icon you haven’t yet reacted to, so below are the details &im sure you’ll get a real kick out of his performances.
His name is/was. Barry Humphris…… He passed away recently & was given a State Funeral.
His two fictional characters were Sir Les Patterson & Dame Edna Everage, with Sir Les being obese, lecherous & obnoxious & uncouth , with Dame Edna being an extremely refined lady.
Both these char are chalk and cheese to Barry Humphris who is well educated & well spoken.
You will absolutely love these two incredibly different characters played by this world renown actor.
    Cheers, Graeme.
