This is my reaction to Roy And HG - The French (Club Buggery)
Recently I have reacted to Roy and HG on their Sydney Olympics 2000 show The Dream and really enjoyed it. I learned they had another TV show called Club Buggery which I am reacting to today and in it they give their opinions on the French.

I'm pretty sure that the origin of Roy & HG's anger towards France and their Prime Minister at the time, Jacques Chirac, was that they were continuing to test nuclear weapons in the Pacific (a lot closer to Australia than to France) up until 1996.
Absolutely.... along with the French government's dismissive (some would say 'snooty') response to Australia's protests and travel sanctions over the French bombing of the Rainbow Warrior in Aukland Harbour in 1985. I first travelled to Europe in 1990 and the only country I needed an entry visa for was France.
I totally forgot about this.
This wasn’t long after the French had blown up The Rainbow Warrior in Auckland, sinking the ship and murdering a member of the crew.
Remember Rainbow Warrior being blown up in NZ by the French Secrete Service with the loss life and the ship. 2 Bombs detonated

The two girls who were the singers were called The Nissan Cedrics - they were absolutely brilliant.
Club buggery was weekly essential viewing.
The reason for turning on the French was their doing nuclear bomb tests in the pacific ocean which upset many Australians .
And sinking the Rainbow Warrior in Auckland harbour.

I felt sorry for the French in New Caledonia when I went there some years afterwards. They reminded me more of Australians than the French I’ve met in Europe. It must have been a really worrying time for them.
The Irony being that once again Sheeples in the land of Oz were duped by Media with Agendas , The French tests were over 8000 Km away ,the media frenzy saying with the catch phrase "Not in our backyard ! " and when England detonated over a Dozen Atomic bombs in the Middle of Australia , not a word was said .. Hypocrisy never changes

As an Aussie I wish to thank you for reviving our old comedy. So nice to be reminded of our larrikin humour especially Roy and HG. In my opinion there hasn’t been anyone before or since who has topped them. Their material stands the test of time. More of Club Buggery please?

As an Australian, it's funny to revisit this show. They were everywhere back in the day doing sport commentary. You could turn on the TV with the volume down and listen to them on radio watching the same footage. I think their radio following was bigger than the official commentary.
i always loved it how they each have their own camera off to the side that they can turn to at any time and talk straight down it with the other person just sitting there in the background basically just agreeing with everything - hilarious.
They are still on every week. On the Australian ABC radio station each Saturday at 12 pm (Sydney time) with a two-hour program called _Bludging on the Blindside._
Do they still call the State of Origin?

Jaques Chirac, once voted in, insisted on resuming nuclear testing in French Polynesia in the South Pacific. It went down like a cold cup of sick and didn't happen.
It did happen they went ahead with undersea nuclear weapons tests in 1995 at Moruroa atoll
Just FYI , France did their testing over 8000km away from Oz at Mururoa Atoll , the USA did their tests 5000km away in the Marshal Islands, and just like the English tests in the middle of Australia , not a bad word spoken ... some things really stay the same eh? Media manipulation and agenda driven politics are the same through the ages,
This would probably have been done either when the French were doing nuclear testing in the Pacific or after the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior

Can only be the 1995 tests occurring about two days or a week and two days prior to French Bastille Day on a Saturday coinciding with this club bughery performance . The uproar and mass hysteria started one night with Fiona Wiley for ABC broadcasting Australia wide I think from some place between Canberra and Wodonga. She was the truckies' favourite with her dulcetone voice. About 10 pm she asked her truckies how we could show our outrage to the French . Then next was Peter couchman who took up the issue big time . Before long the ABC were inventing news outta thin air such as a restauranteur tipping all his French wine out in the garden, , sure he did . A doctor in Sydney they found to say something about radiation hazards and no safe levels etc. They got a church cleric from Gipsland to say a few words. Something about Australia's backyard was ranted, however India, Indonesia, aren't considered Australia's backyard. I'm not sure if New Guinea , Solomons , Fiji, New Zealand are considered Australia's backyard . The sovereign countries would probably laugh .
If you want to know the origins of Roy and HG's contempt, google Rainbow Warrior. The behaviour of the French regrading nuclear testing in the Pacific was literally criminal.

My earliest memories of Roy and HG was the Rugby League State of Origin commentary on JJJ Radio. The nicknames of the players are beyond funny. We use to watch the tv visual and Roy and HG audio. Think batted sav...

Roy was on fire in this one 😅 He and HG ripped into everyone, no matter who they were, without fear or favour. Comedy is much more tame these days.
I don't agree that comedy is much more tame. Jimmy Carr and Ricky Gervais are testament to that.

Used to watch this show every week, they we're hilarious. They started in the 80's with a sports program on radio, the world needs this sort of thing to return desperately.
What I loved about their show is the directing of the cameras from Roy to HG and how they are always looking down their nose at us. Such Classic Yobbo’s .❤

'Buckleys" - means zero, no chance, comes from the saying "Buckleys and None [sic]" meaning TWO chances at nothing.
Buckleys and Nunn used to be an upmarket, popular department store in the CBD of Melbourne in the !950 - 60's - hence the play on words, and, of course, the truncation; because who's got time to say the whole thing - a very popular Australian pastime.
R & HG were, initially, on 3JJJ FM radio [This Sporting Life] for a FULL afternoon of cultural/sporting mayhem every Sunday - an unbelievable feat of comic wizardry.
Their joint powers of hyperbole and explosive insult are unparalleled - they were then called to the telly, and the rest is history.
Every Saturday you will get them on abc radio "Bludging on The Blind Side."Bloody brilliant.
Roy and HG are comedy genius's. Dead set legends.
Roy and HG, what wonderful memories.indeed. I used to watch the AFL grand final with TV sound off and the radio tuned to Triple R, where they would broadcast the football narrative in real time, by watching the same program, and make us laugh.
There's heaps of club buggery online. They cover everyone, everything and anything. They are aussie legends. Two great blokes who love the bush and are greatly missed from our screens full time.
Their great strength is that for two fairly intellectual well educated fellows their comedy was able to have such broad appeal to the point they fit in naturally as kind of champions of wider Australia
A strength they shared with John Clarke (of Clarke and Dawe) though I'm not sure how much we can claim Clarke as one of our own

Roy and HGs best work always was their radio show on JJJ which ran for ages up to around 2008....just hilarious and all unscripted. This Sporting Life....They really did have a very unique act. All of their TV shows were great too. Much love and they are still going strong
They are still on radio. Saturdays @12 noon - 2pm on the ABC digital radio. If you miss, the podcast is up soon afterwards. All of this years episodes are available. Always best listened to live, or soon after, as the Sporting landscape is always shifting

I met Roy after a Club Bug show years ago and told him I was the one who had sent you a calendar that I had created and printed with scenes from the show and sent to him, HG and the Cedrics, so he graciously talked to me outside the ABC studio for about a half hour while his car was waiting for him. It was fantastic as I found that he could suddenly click over into his Roy Slaven persona in an instant and I had an exclusive show of Roy during that half hour doing his manic routine. John behaved exactly as Roy whenever he chose, and without a script. This was a treasure beyond riches and I've never forgotten it.
they did a great one on the poms, and a goody on the kiwi's too I know both of these are on YT.
Roy & HG are underrated gods of deadpan, overhyped, satirical vernacular gymnastics.

They’ve Been going since 1986 or 1987,.. with “this Sporting life”,…. ( go the Jays!!!!!) utter brilliance of word play and deliver.

Huge Aussie 🇦🇺 fan, loved this during the Sydney 2000 Olympic games, ❤ watched it every night.❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂Best times when in the beginning of the Games the Mascot was "Fatso" - The fat as$€d wombat. Athletes were taken it when they received metals but because it wasn't a official Olympic merchandise they stopped that 😢😮. Fatso was for me the absolute In Roy and Hg style the absolute Mascot of Sydney 2000. ❤❤

I loved Rampaging Roy Slaven and H.G. as the hosts of a satirical sports radio show which aired on our Community Radio every weekend 1980s. Brilliant stuff 😂😂😂😂😂

I've been a fan of these guys since '92 (a bit late on the scene) when I videotaped the West Coast/Geelong AFL grand final with the Roy-HG commentary overlaid. It was a scream and funny every time I watched it. The other day I found an Australian Story (ABC TV) on the origins of Roy and HG in which they discuss the chemistry and methodology of their act. There's something of the Barry Humphries style to them . I can imagine them imitating Barry at the very very beginning and it grew .
Roy and HG are legends in Australia and other places, (maybe not in France so much??). But they are much loved

If you enjoy Roy & H.G they have a sports show on ABC radio each Saturday here in Australia. It's called "bludging on the blind side". It's very Rugby League-centric but their particular style of satire is front and centre. They are masters

Older Australians have never forgiven the French for their atomic bomb testing in the Pacific or the British for their atomic testing on Australian territories and the mainland.
Mostly Roy & HG focused on sport. They generally didn't have a go at other countries. But this was related to the French nuclear testing in the Pacific. In an attempt to reduce protests & political awareness, they bombed & sank the Greenpeace ship in Auckland harbour. So the program was in response to recent french govt announcement to renew tests.
Oh man this had me giggling. Had tears. Brilliant
La petomain was a famous French performer who toured the world playing to royalty and the common people, his act was to play tunes farting true story.
Le Pétomane had at least one mishap in his act, too.
You should have a go of a show called “Have you been paying attention?” A show with guest comedians answering questions about the news cycle. There is usually a sponsors advertisement embedded in the show that the host puts himself into, which is hilarious too.

I listened to their first broadcasts back on Sydney radio in the 80s and loved them ever since.
Two other brilliant segments are there Winter Olympic show on the night Steven Bradbury won our first ever gold medal and a couple of segments from The Dream about the NZ team.

They had Ian Terpy who once dated Olivia Newton John.
Terps would sing weekly and get involved in various skits with his sidekick "Dog Rooter"
The female vocalists were known as "The Nissan Cedric's" which was a car from the 60's that also featured in the show.

They used to do a four show on JJJ radios on Sundays it was the greatest..I couldn't care less if I saw the most famous celebrities in person but Rampaging Roy lived in my suburb and I was star struck each time.. legends

This Sporting Life was the name of the show. They used to commentate the NRL state of origin games and both AFL & NRL grand finals.
I'm not a fan of footy in the slightest but whenever these 2 commentated it was fabulous

Nahh, it means to take it up the arse, just like it means in the rest of the English speaking world - and that is clearly implied in this jibe at the French lol.
America conducted approximately 1,000 Nuclear Weapons Tests... Atomic Bombs.... Under the Sea Bed, In the Ocean, On the Surface of the Ocean, Under Land Surface, On Land Surface, In the Atmosphere, and, In Space... if that isn't the epitome of arrogance i don't know what is!!!

I only vaguely remember this show as I was just a kid but it's been fun going down memory lane with your recent videos ❤ when he mentioned Jacques Chirac I realised when this was, the Australian people were very much opposed to the nuclear testing going on at the time and sparked a lot of debate here about nuclear energy. I always remember this as the "Ban the Nukes" protest on Surfers Paradise beach was the first protest I was involved in as a conscientious objector

Besides radio, Roy & HG have made some hilarious TV shows over the decades, such as:
'Planet Norwich' (filmed live in the UK);
'The Memphis Trousers Half Hour' (named when ex-Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser was found trouser-less in a Memphis hotel);
'The Channel Nine Show' (made by ABC TV to look like a commercial rival broadcaster's product).
When they were signed up by the Seven Network, they did 'The Dream' for the 2000 Olympics and several other commentary shows on Seven.
Eventually they found their way back to ABC where they now do the weekly Saturday radio podcast/show 'Bludging on the Blindside'.
Use to listen to Roy & HG on Triplle J ( JJJ) Man there funny as, as someone with Cancer laughter is a great Medicine.

Very well read, they picked their subject and guests but never wrote or memorized a script. There were each other’s muse and everything was uttered “off the cuff”. A stand in for either was an impossibility.
I'm pretty sure Greg Pickhaver is dyslexic, which would fit with their modus operandi.

They used to just talk shit about sport. A mate of theirs who worked for a radio station thought it would be a good idea to have them on. I've listened to them for 30 years now. They've had an influence on my life.

The Irony of the skit which was a popular Murdock Media protest against French Nuclear Testing in the Pacific Ocean 8000 Km away, which Oz Media repeatedly said was "right in our back yard" . Strange that Australia never bothered to say a word out of place when England did over a Dozen Atomic bomb tests in the middle of the Country even getting Australian soldiers to venture out straight after the blast without protective clothing !
Reminds me a bit of some of Derek 'n Clive's back and forths though not quite as expletive riddled.

It came from a Sony U-Matic copy, a standard definition format that was quite often recorded in mono.

This was obviously about the French nuclear bomb tests at Muroroa Atoll in French Polynesia in the South Pacific being closer to Oz than to France.
