I watched More Olympics that year than in my whole life because I wanted to catch their commentary. Suddenly, every event was fun and exciting. They were brilliant.
A story I so hope is true - Apparently some of the International Olympic Committee were incensed by Roy and HG and wanted them taken off the air. The response was "There are very few things that could invoke a violent revolution in Australia. But doing that would be one of them. If they were silenced, the entire army of volunteers and staff running the olympics would walk off the job immediately." (Mind you, the fact that one of the IOC heads had the name 'Dick Pound" was an absolute gift to Roy and HG.
The Dream was broadcast every night after the official Olympics broadcast ended. The show’s mascot “Fatso the big-arsed wombat” (a stuffed toy) was so popular that one of the Australian swim relay teams took him with them onto the medal podium; much to the dismay of the Games Committee. Their wrestling, gymnastics and diving commentary is the stuff of legend, including the mascot diving competition on the final night with the actual Channel 7 commentators. Glad you’ve discovered them.
I remember watching this episode. These US athletes understood Roy and HGs humour, and the best thing was John Drummond blaming them for not winning the gold because he stayed up late watching Roy and HG.
It was great because the American athletes - especially Drummond - had been criticised in the Australian media for being arrogant, overly-flashy, and all that stuff. Then he shows up on Roy & HG and it turns out he's a friendly, articulate, humble young guy with a sense of humour and the ability to laugh at himself. Great memories all around from this show, but I feel like this is the moment that always first comes to mind when I remember The Dream.
The Dream was one of the best shows we've ever produced in my humble opinion 😂 so clever and funny, any commentary they did of the gymnastics is absolutely hilarious and still cracks me up 😂
its very hard to find on video.dvd too. I would love to get my hands on the full thing. It was unbelievably funny,, love them. They and Barry Humpries rate as our best ever comedians.
Roy and HG were on Triple J every Saturday afternoon. The show was called “this sporting life”. Then we had “the dream” during the 2000 Sydney Olyimpics. They also did the Ice Dream too
HG is the straight man. Roy is a self professed expert on everything sporting. He has done it all. Even supposedly trained a race horse named "Rooting King". These are two very, very funny men who have no fear in who they take the piss out of. Love Them.
They’ve been around doing sporting commentary since the early 80’s and are still going today. Their best joke during the Sydney Olympics was when a New Zealander won the men’s single sculls and Roy deadpan says “yes, New Zealanders are never better than when they are sitting on their arse going backwards”
The comments about Kiwis sitting on their arses and winning golds dates back to 1984 Los Angles Olympics. That was the one where NZ won 8 gold medals (all sitting down), twice as many as Australia.
I remember that show so well. Roy and HG have been a duo, doing this sports parody show, for over 30 years. They used to have a show on the radio every Sunday afternoon that went for 3 hours, yes 3 hours of just talking absolute shite, and it was hilarious. They bounce off each other beautifully.
Doug Mulray (RIP) week day mornings. Jono (RIP) & Dano in the evenings. Hey Hey Saturday nite. Roy & HG Sunday arvos after a few drinks & green tobacco😜
I lived in the US for a while 93-94. Pre internet. My Dad would tape (cassette tapes, remember them)"This sporting life", and "Australia All Over" every week and send it to us. We listened to it all, the little slice of home kept us sane. One weekend the running commentary was about Muhammad Ali, who had just made an appearance in our local mall in Louisville Ky. Ali grew up there, great serendipity.
Gosh! I’d forgotten about this! I watched Roy n HG every night of the Sydney Olympics they are hilarious!! Watched their regular program too. Australian TV is much poorer for their absence. How brilliant & clever they remain! 😎❤️

Roy and HG are fictional characters played by two Australian comedians, who over many decades have presented as a comedic sports commentating duo on both radio and tv in Australia. The Dream was, and remains their greatest piece of work together, as for those few weeks of the Sydney games, more tuned into the comedy stylings after the events each night, than the actual events. Their presence within Australian sporting events maintained through the years via radio and sporadic tv shows. They continue to broadcast together to this day via their podcast Roy & HG. Long live The Dream!
Well said… they started out on ABC radio station 2JJJ , with a parody show This Sporting Life, citing Too Much Sport is Barely Enough, spoofing everything and making us laugh; the 2000 Olympic Games was a triumph for Australia and certainly for these very clever men… still listening to their rugby league / sports show ‘Bludging on the Blindside’ and they never get tiresome.❤
Get past it? What is there to get past. They're a couple of guys who are being themselves, sharing their hilarious style of comedy, whilst merely using professional names. Just as many comedians, singers, actors and so on have done for decades.
I'm not an AFL or rugby fan, but nothing was better than watching the grand finals with the volume down on the TV and Roy and HG commenting on the radio.
All their work was unscripted . They have been on radio and television in Australia for many, many years and had a great insight into the world. Funny and intelligent. Loved them
This was legendary, and one of those you had to be there moments. 23 years ago, but still etched in the comedy landscape of Australia - Roy and HG had the evening comedic relief show for the Olympics, ran later at night to allow for them to have more room to move in their approach. First few nights I think most weren't quite aware it was even on, but after that word got around they were on fire and that the show was hilarious, it all snowballed from there - not only did the entire nation and our guests to the games tune in at that point, but it made international headlines. They had the world in stitches for a good fortnight, managed to back it up for the winter olympics. The stuff of legends.
THE DREAM was the highest rating coverage of Sydney 2000 Olympics. You really need to SEE the Gymnastics and Syncronised Swimming Coverage. LAUGH SO MUCH.
Roy and HG got started commentating the footy on JJJ. We would turn down the telly and turn up the radio. The state of origin series was one of their speciality. Absolutely hilarious duo 😂😂😆
Oh man, The Dream was my favourite memory of the Sydney Olympics. It was the perfect companion to the serious coverage of the events all day, and i think that clip showed just how much the athletes themselves really loved it. Fatso the Fat Arse Wombat was the unofficial but iconic mascot of Sydney 2000.
Roy and HG are legends and their tv shows during the Summer Olympics (The Dream) and Winter Olympics (The Ice Dream) were hysterical. The athletes couldn’t care about the events, they just wanted to be on Roy and HG’s show to get their souvenir guest pins. That’s how brilliant they were.
Roy and HG had done previous TV shows but radio was their main thing and always hilarious. But this show showcased their amazing humour and craziness, nearly everyone stayed up to watch it each night of the Olympics and it got better and better over the 2 weeks, the final show was the perfect climax. I’ll never forget being at a live site in Sydney, watching with a crowd on the big screen after a day at the athletics.
They would audiocast for the state of origin rugby league. We would always have the live tv on the telly with the volume down, and Roy and HG commentating the game. It was nothing short of superb and unparalleled. They are sorely missed.
Hey mate, yep - to your question - this was a show that ran alongside the official coverage to the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Most Aussies watched this every night. Roy and HG had long established themselves as deeply-informed, comedic commentators on major sporting events. As a kid we would often have their radio commentary on one of our biggest footy spectacles in the Australian tradition: the State of Origin. This was pitting footy players who started their professional careers in either New South Wales (The Blues) vs Queensland (The Maroons) against each other in an often-bloody-and-emotional grudge match. Roy and HG were so unspeakably funny that we would mute the sound on the official televised coverage and watch the match alongside Roy and HG's live comedic coverage over the radio - this was done in many households. So glad our Scottish brothers have discovered this source of Australian pride 🙂
The Dream was a late night comedic summary of the day's Olympic events, with interviews with athletes, and commentary on various events that could be seemed strage. "Hello Boys" was one of their comments when male athletes spread their legs in athletic events. Roy and HG have been around on tv and radio for many years in a variety of programs, but generally associated with sport.
These guys were huge stars in the radio, they’d do a commentary on the state of origin rugby series (Queensland vs New South Wales, three matches each year) and there was a very popular tradition of watching the game on tv with the volume off and laughing along with the commentary from the radio.
Apart from their commentary of the male floor gymnastics, the must see of Roy and HG is their incredible calling of Eric the Eel's famous race. Eric was to 2000 Olympics what Eddie the Eagle was to the Winter Olympics.
Years ago they would broadcast commentary of Aussie sports live that you could tune in to instead of listening to the regular commentary. It was always hilarious.
Yeah - it was a nightly show at the end of each days Olympics. Roy & HG were given the go ahead to take their normal sports comedy routine and apply it to the sacred hallows of the Olympics - and it was a massive hit! Basically every Aussie watched it every night. They entertained all the locals and all the visitors alike. As a comedy duo they have done decades of radio and TV - such bloody legends!
Roy & HG still have a weekly radio show on Saturdays "Bludging on the Blindside" which focuses on rugby league. My favourite TV show of theirs was "Club Buggery" on Saturday nights in the 1990s. You can find episodes on TH-cam.
I remember an episode where they had Mike Myers on, and he was discussing a little project he was thinking about called "Austin Powers". Not sure if anything came of it.....
This was on very late at night and often rated better than the official broadcast. They also had their own mascot Fatso the wombat who was more popular than the official mascots. If you have a chance have a look at them commentating the men's floor gymnastics or the Greek wrestling. They also had a mascot diving competition with the mascots doing bombs
Seconded - DEFINITELY try to get them commentating on the gymnastics! Sadly, most of the stuff that went up has been pulled, but here is a report that includes some. Enjoy! th-cam.com/video/jsGju4zgROo/w-d-xo.html
@@robanderson473 … No. if I recall correctly, they were only given to guests on the show (Fatso pins). If any devoted fans somehow managed to get their hands on one, they could’ve been worth a considerable amount of money & could’ve named their price.
They used to do a radio show called "This Sporting Life" on our equivalent of Youth Radio. The show's tagline was "Where too much sport is barely enough". They would do simulcasts on significant sporting events in this same sarcastic, laconic style. They became so popular that they were asked to do the olympics on TV. Their gymnastics & wrestling commentary is not to be missed. Ozyman Reviews could almost be called their love-child.
@@gjmob cheers for the heads up! I live OS these days, so streaming is a bit more inconvenient (but not impossible). I'll sort it out though. Cheers again!
These blokes used to commentate the Rugby League Grand Final on the radio, half the country would turn the sound off on the telly and listen to them. Not only hilarious, they knew their sports as well!
Yep, Roy and HG, the go to for all the sporting news at Olympics time. My all time favourite duo. Their sarcasm and brilliant comedic timing was second to none 👌👌
They had a show on the radio called this sporting life where they would give a comic commentary on sports in general. Have a look at them commentating the Olympic gymnastics and you'll see the essence of their popularity. Absolutely hilarious, making up their own names for the different manoeuvres
An old flat mate of mine said she had Roy, er, John at Glendale. English classes might have been entertaining, drama classes were off the charts apparently
Roy and HG still going strong with cumpulsory listening on Bludging on the Blindside , been listening to these blokes since the eighties , legends ! Happy rugba league !
These brilliant guys have been around since the 90s. They were initially on alternative Radio, and were huge by the time Sydney 2000 Olympics happened. They've been on tv and radio solidly for years & both had succesful solo projects.
Roy & HG also did episodes of “The Dream” at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics in 2002 & also, the Athens Olympics in 2004. I think they also had shows from the Winter Olympics in Russia in 2006 👍😁
The Dream was a comedy special put together as a late night recap of the day's events at the Sydney Olympics. It proved so popular that it was brought back for subsequent games, both winter and summer - including Athens!
Not only did we in Sydney put on one of the greatest Olympic Games EVER, the Sydney 2000 games gave us one of the funniest shows ever in The Dream with Roy and HG Nelson. They gave us hours and hours of laughs and comedy, the show featured son many awesome athletes letting their hair down while they get roasted by these 2 great men. They did do some others but something about the Sydney show just lasted in my memory forever. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘💖💖💖💖
Yes, a one of for the Olympics I believe, but their Rugby League commentary is legendarily hilarious also. They had their own show basically and were asked/commissioned to host events at times.
Those who watched “The Dream” would also remember the absolute tragedy & horror that unfolded when the unthinkable happened… Fatso, the fat-arsed wombat (their games mascot) was kidnapped.. Or “wombat-napped” 😱😱🤣🤣
Seriously, The Dream was one of the highlights of watching the Sydney Olympics....just great fun....and the Aussies were performing so well, this was the icing on the cake!
It started on the radio and we would watch the state of origin with the sound off and listen to them commentate on the radio. We all just loved them!🥰They were so popular they did multiple sports and the Olympics, It was hilarious!
Absolutely loved watching Roy and HG. Quality viewing back in the day and the only part of the Olympics I'd actually watch, willingly, with my dear old dad.
Saw this on my feed ty homepage & had to click on it. i was once an audience member on the show twice (Just go there line up & your in), nicest guys ever signed autographs told jokes asked your names had a small chat with you). Roy & HG The Dream Team AKA - The Dream with Roy and HG. I worked there in the IBC. The place was called IBC Behind the main stadium. Specially made for the Sydney 2000 Olympics. International Broadcast Center. Now the building had been removed due to it not being needed now. As the games are well & truly over. Great times seeing the Olympic Cauldron Rise, & so on. Great memories.
Listening to Roy and HG commentate the Olympic gymnastics, while you're watching the tele with the sound down, is the most fun I've ever had watching the Olympics
Roy and HG. HG & Roy. Just love them. Background: it's no secret that Australia has an obsession with sport and, every Saturday afternoon Channel 9 - one of 3 main commercial television networks in Australia - used to have a show called Wide World Of Sports. This show show got mocked in all forms of other entertainment, media. Also backgorund: Australia plays cricket in the summer and 2 main types of football, rugby league and Australian Football (AFL), in the cooler months. AFL was centred around Melbourne, with Rugby League being Sydney centric. Roy and HG first started on National Youth Broadcaster Triple J with a weekend program called This Sporting Life, which was squarely aimed at poking fun at WWOS. And I do mean completely taking the piss. It was a weekly 3 hour show on a Sunday afternoon. They wouldn't just lampoon the show, but the sports they covered. They used to give all forms of absurd nicknames to the players of the football codes. One of the great "scandals" was one of the players had a black and white photo shot and people claimed that they could see his, er, unit. From that day forward, he was Nudist. You know who they were talking about, because instead of talking about him by name, his actions were attributed to Nudist. And so on it went. Then, since 1980, Queensland has played 3 Rugby League games against NSW every year in a series called State Of Origin. Well, Roy and HG began commentating the games. You would tune your television to watch the game without sound and listen to Roy and HG over the radio. I canon's remember some of the nicknames but one was Crazy Date (Date being another word for a-hole), another Nudist, the brick with eyes, etc. So, Nudist would pass to the Brick, then a pass to crazy date, then to Sirro (don't the Poms hate Sirro) And this would go on for 80 minutes and a half time wrap up. HILARIOUS STUFF. (See if you can find some of their earlier stuff on this. It'd be well worth watching. Come the 2000 Olympics and, by this time, these two things were exceptionally popular, so Channel 7, Australia's broadcaster of the game, elected to have these boys have their own show to mock the games. Now, another couple of hilarious things to note. Roy and HG HATED one of the official mascots, so they referred to them as Syd, Olly, and Dickhead. Then came Fatso. The OG Fatso was another wombat on an extremely popular Australian Soap Opera called A Country Practice, also shown on the 7 Network. Funny enough when you think about it, but then it morphed into Fatso, the Fat Arsed Wombat. Just fricken hilarious. (I know I've used the term before, but there is really no better word to describe them.) You also need to search out the video they did with the mascots being 'helped' (with a gaff pole) off the 10m diving board,in a Diving competition. PURE. COMEDIC. GOLD. They did try it all again at the subsequent winter Olympics and the next summer games, but, for me, it never really captured the same vibe of the original. It'd all been done. I have heard they are back on ABCs Radio National on the weekends but I haven't listened.
Roy & HG started on community radio in the late 80:s They went on to become an iconic duo through the nineties. Mainly radio, but as you see, also television. Roy (John Dyole) has become a brilliant writer over the years writing many books & successful television shows in Australia.
Roy & HG are pretty prolific comedic satire content creators on radio and television. During the Sydney Olympics of 2000, they were not the official channel and didn't have access to live events, but they'd clip out various oddities from each day and provide hilarious commentary making up fake terms for the various maneuvers, like flippity flip and ball buster and so on, esp w/ to gymnastics. They'd also highlight all the falls, and messed up dives and so on. They created their own Wombat icon which became far more popular than the official merch. They also had much bigger ratings than the officially licensed broadcasting network. Athletes even got in trouble for carrying the wombat merch around at events.
@colincolenso That is not correct - both the Olympics and The Dream were on Channel 7. My (now ex-)wife worked on both the official broadcast and The Dream during the Sydney Olympics for Ch 7. We had a Fatso from the show, but she got Fatso in the divorce - devo.
Just confirming what Larry Levinsky said. Yes, The Dream with Roy & HG was on Channel 7, the official broadcaster. I was part of Channel 7 then, and it's fair to say that there were mixed views internally as to how the Dream would be received. Their satire wasn't even known to all Australians at the time, let alone overseas athletes and fans. But everyone associated with the show did an amazing job. There was just enough conventional comedy (eg Fatso, the wrestling and gymnastics commentary etc) to bring newcomers along, so that their satire could be seen in context. Towards the end of the games so many overseas athletes were wanting to be featured.
Roy and HG are without a doubt the funniest duo that Australia has produced. I listened to these to clowns since I was eighteen and couldn't get enough.
I don’t normally have interest in Sport but Roy and HG gave me a different perspective. I watched until they finished up. The last was the end of a fantastic insight and a sense of humour that was so quick and snappy. Great minds.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Roy and HG (real names John Doyle and Greig Pickhaver) were famous here for doing live sports commentary with a comedy twist. They had wicked senses of humour. Many people used to tune into their live commentary on the radio for certain events, rather than listening to the somewhat boring professional TV commentators.
As a Kiwi with both that and Australian citizenship. I have to thank Roy and HG for their NRL grand final commentary. What an introduction to life here in Australia- so lucky to be here😂❤
You have to look for the parts of this show featuring "Fatso The Fat arsed Wombat" he was a stuffed toy. People from other countries actually thought he was our official mascot. He was simply dreamt up by the team at Roy and HG and all the athletes wanted one, they were all swapping what ever they could for, the top swap, "Fatso" and second swap was for one of the pins that these American athletes were so excited about receiving. All the athletes came into the temporary studio, it was so popular and we all watched it at home. Roy and HG also made up some names for some of the movements or techniques used in some of the sports and they were so ridiculous but hilarious
OMG! This has just evoked a long forgotten memory. As a big fan of their Triple J radio show and their State of Origin commentary, me and some friends recorded a song featuring endless samples of their commentary (with probably an over representation of "Back-door Benny Elias" 🤣). They then did a live show broadcast in Brisbane (I don't remember where - maybe Breakfast Creek Hotel?), we took our recording there, gave it to 'em, and they played it!!
I watched More Olympics that year than I have done in my whole life because I wanted to catch their commentary. Suddenly, every event was fun and exciting. They were brilliant.
Their commentary of Gymnastics is great. Prior to that they did many sports and Roy was either a Champion or Expert in every one and HG would ask his take on whichever sport they were covering. But I remember a comment they made about horse racing and a particular Jockey Harry White. He was known to use the Whip vigorously and by the time he was finishing the race they said he was riding a Ball of Mince. And they covered Rugby League and would have nick names for players. One of which was Glenn Lazarus a Big Forward who was called "The Brick with Eyes".
The Dream (the name of the show) was a show put on by Roy and H.G. every Olympics (for a number of them anyway). They would go to the Olympics wherever they were being held. Roy and H.G. were radio stars too.
Their commentary on Greco Roman Wrestling, Diving, gymnastics, weight lifting.....they were the best part of the 2000 Olympics!♥️

The commentary during the Japanese synchronised swimming was a highlight for me ‘The search for the Minke Whale”. 😂hahahaha
They also did the AFL aussie rules Grand Final. We also turned down the TV volume to listen to their commentary. Great.
No matter the Sport, they were or would have been the absolute best commentators.😂
Squirrel Gripper 🤣
Not to mention every Saturday arvo with the main NRL match of the week.
" Hello sailor " for the girls spreading while hand-standing before a dive.
"flat sack" for when male gymnasts did the full splitz
there was the "battered sav" too in the mens gymnastics

A great show in a great moment in time with two of our most intelligent comics ever....the Roy and HG brand is elite
When they did the water polo and described the 'underwater tactics', it was so hilarious I laughed for ages. Still laughing. Hahaha....
As a Queenslander I used to love hearing Roy & HG call the State of Origin while viewing it.
King Wally and Debra Kerr, along with "The brick with eyes". Really miss their call.
The Dream, every night of the Sydney 2000 Olympics, it was the MUST Watch TV show at 11pm when Roy & HG would review the day's events.
Picking the berries... Last thing those two needed was another set of terms to run with 😂
These guys were huge stars in the radio, they’d do a commentary on the state of origin rugby series (Queensland vs New South Wales, three matches each year) and there was a very popular tradition of watching the game on tv with the volume off and laughing along with the commentary from the radio.
Honestly you have to find clips of them commenting on gymnastics or wrestling.... it used to leave me in tears of laughter :D
This is a show called "The dream" it was on each night after the Sydney Olympics
Listen to Bludging on the Blindside on Podbean.
What about the most horrific event when Fatso was “wombat-napped”??? 😱😱😆😆
'fatso the fat-arsed wombat', I think was it's full title
Seconded - DEFINITELY try to get them commentating on the gymnastics! Sadly, most of the stuff that went up has been pulled, but here is a report that includes some. Enjoy! th-cam.com/video/jsGju4zgROo/w-d-xo.html
I remember Fatso the Wombat! Didn't they give them away as prizes, or could they be purchased?
Ozyman Reviews could almost be called their love-child.
barely enough...
Came here to say pretty much this. That show was just the duck's nuts...
@@neil2402 thnx
They are still on ABC radio from midday till 2pm each Saturday.
@@gjmob cheers for the heads up! I live OS these days, so streaming is a bit more inconvenient (but not impossible).
I'll sort it out though. Cheers again!
I still have my official Roy and HG Smiggins Hole winter olympics bid T-Shirt! (We were robbed!)
These blokes used to commentate the Rugby League Grand Final on the radio, half the country would turn the sound off on the telly and listen to them. Not only hilarious, they knew their sports as well!
I remember watching their commentary on the floor gymnastics. I was hysterical with laughter. They were so funny!
Yep, Roy and HG, the go to for all the sporting news at Olympics time. My all time favourite duo. Their sarcasm and brilliant comedic timing was second to none 👌👌
Clarke and Dawe are hands down the sharpest duo that we had.
For political satire, yes. But for sport it's Rampaging Roy Slaven & HG Nelson :)
Roy and HG were for a long time the best thing about the Olympic Games. Waited all day to see it.
They had a show on the radio called this sporting life where they would give a comic commentary on sports in general. Have a look at them commentating the Olympic gymnastics and you'll see the essence of their popularity. Absolutely hilarious, making up their own names for the different manoeuvres
Roy was a high school English teacher at a school near me. Apparently classes were a riot. He was the teacher kids wanted to get.
And Happy rugba league to you too artvandelay4962. You are a fine, upstanding member of our Australian society😃👍.
I thought it was rugbah league?
These brilliant guys have been around since the 90s. They were initially on alternative Radio, and were huge by the time Sydney 2000 Olympics happened. They've been on tv and radio solidly for years & both had succesful solo projects.
As an American, Roy summed up many Americans perfectly.
Yes it was a parody of a sports show during the 2000 Sydney Olympics - it was f**king funny. Also see the fly on the wall parody “The Games”
Roy & HG also did episodes of “The Dream” at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics in 2002 & also, the Athens Olympics in 2004. I think they also had shows from the Winter Olympics in Russia in 2006 👍😁
2006 Winter Olympics was not in Russia; that was in Turin, Italy.
@@JoTheSnoop … My apologies. I got them mixed up.
This was the highlight of the day during thee Olympics. Watch Roy and HG on the men’s gymnastics.
These guys were brilliant. I loved their coverage of the Sydney Olympics and always watched State of Origin listening to their commentary.
The Dream was a comedy special put together as a late night recap of the day's events at the Sydney Olympics. It proved so popular that it was brought back for subsequent games, both winter and summer - including Athens!
They were the must see television of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. No one got any sleep while they were on.
Such legends.. I used to listen to them in the car on the way home from uni when they were on 3JJJ .. laughed so hard I nearly drove off the road.
Roy and HG on the radio too. Their live sports commentary too. Turn the volume down on the TV, and turn the radio on.
Legends. A 'Dream' that showed respect for Olympic athletes with laughter.
The flat bag and the hello boys were great gymnastics terminologies for the 2000 Sydney Olympics commentary from Roy & HG.
Best commentary team in the Olympics...Roy and HG,absolute legends.
Fantastic show screened every night during the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Athletes and locals loved it!
These two are legends, check out more of them.
You won't be disappointed.
They also had a tonite show called Club Buggery.
"Roy and HG" are icons of Australian comedy. We are blessed.
Roy & HG's The Dream show deserved 2 gold medal from the Olimpic comity!
Listening to Roy and HG commentate the Olympic gymnastics, while you're watching the tele with the sound down, is the most fun I've ever had watching the Olympics
Legends! This was the best thing about the Sydney Olympics! Also great commentary for the AFL Grand final too!
The absolute best impromptu comedy of its time. Just amazing stuff from Roy & HG!
Roy and HG.
So, Nudist would pass to the Brick, then a pass to crazy date, then to Sirro (don't the Poms hate Sirro)
And this would go on for 80 minutes and a half time wrap up.
(I know I've used the term before, but there is really no better word to describe them.)
You also need to search out the video they did with the mascots being 'helped' (with a gaff pole) off the 10m diving board,in a Diving competition.
PURE. COMEDIC.
Not to mention the "battered sav" (saveloy), "Hello boys", and the "Dutch wink".
@@mrmockatoo6786 Or the flat bags!
@colincolenso That is not correct - both the Olympics and The Dream were on Channel 7. My (now ex-)wife worked on both the official broadcast and The Dream during the Sydney Olympics for Ch 7. We had a Fatso from the show, but she got Fatso in the divorce - devo.
@@larrylevinsky I appreciate the correction. I remembered wrongly. Fatso the wombat was a remarkable strategy.
Loved Roy & HG doing weather reports at the winter Olympics, so funny!
The Roy & HG characters started on radio in the mid 80s, John Doyle who plays Roy Slaven was from Lithgow NSW, used to be a school teacher.
What an introduction to life here in Australia- so lucky to be here😂❤
kiwis will always be our brothers and sisters. xxx
Can't believe the Aussie relay swimmers got in trouble for having fatso on the winners dias. Fatso was a brilliant concept 😂😂
Hello Boys!
@@jaci_mac23 Yes I remember that now. Stuffy officials!

They let Fatso become a part of the closing ceremony. He truly was the people's mascot, rather than the forgettable 'Syd, Ollie and Dickhead' 😂😂
We were on s very long drive and these 2 did a 2 or 3 hr run up to a footy game. It was fabulous and just didn't stop!
you need to see their commentary of the synchronized swimming

@@davejensen7922 Exactly
