Founder of Hello Games Sean Murray talks about whether or not No Man's Sky would exist without Minecraft and how he thinks Minecraft and Notch changed the industry.
If you were looking at it just for exploration, yeah I see where you're coming from. My idea was that it was gonna be building, along with some exploration, so I enjoyed the simple quests, and building with my friends
That's a bit far fetched, but from what we've heard the game appears to be ultra massive and filled with content. I just hope it isn't buggy and repetitive.
There's resource mining and buying/trading ships (and maybe upgrading/buying weapons/tools), but not building. Also one point about NMS that many people miss is that *the world is not persistent* (like Minecraft for example).

The inputs to the generation algorithm (your position) are going to be the same, so the planet is goint to be the same as well :) The fact that it's not persistent means that any small *changes* you make to the terrain (given that you'll be able to) are not going to be there next time. Except for very major events, like killing an entire species of animals for example. Minecraft is the same except it saves the chucks it has generated initially, and if you visit a place you've been before and it sees that saved chunks are available, loads them instead.
I think No Man's Sky may be BS but I really enjoy listening to this dev talk about games, he talks about games in such an articulate way compared to the average awful gaming journalist who usually is around the same age but talks as if he/she has gotten stuck at the age of 18
I'm getting it on PS4, but it will make it to Xbox One if it is successful. On the GameInformer Podcast he was asked this and said he couldn't answer that question. If it was flat out PS4 exclusive he would say no to the question. So if they get time after the PC version it will no doubt make its way :)
planet procedural generation technology influenced this game NOT minecraft, minecraft is NOT an universe exploration sim. SPACE ENGINE simulator is the influence .and it's one of the first programs to make it work I beleive sean was helped by the devoloper of SPACE ENGINE to create this game.

I like sandbox games to an extent but they always get boring (and quick) if there isn't a good enough narrative to keep the player moving forward. I'm not going to mine 500 blocks of sand so I can build a house. I'm just not. Hopefully No Man's Sky isn't too much of a sandbox game.

I have roamed around GTA games with no purpose. It gets boring. And quick. Call me crazy but it's just not my thing. That is part of the reason I haven't purchased any GTA games in quite some time. As for becoming the strongest character being motive... That will never be me. I just don't have the time or patience to devote to a single game to attempt to be the best... or even middle of the road. I play video games for the experience, as I think most do. The experience of wandering around finding / making up things to do isn't for me. I enjoy open world games that allow for exploring at times but have an over-arching narrative. That over-arching narrative is what I am hoping is present in No Man's Sky but we just don't know yet.
Action Movie Fanatix well the crystal thing at the end of the trailers seems to be something, the portals are at alien-like temples ,theres mention of a malevolent force so there might be a story but im certain its something they want us to figure out on our own so you will probably have to wait for review and stuff
I know how, you know how minecraft's world is essentially infinite (well not really, it ends 32 million blocks after the center)? Well, NMS did the same thing making not 10, not 100, not 500, n0t 1,000, not even 1 billion but like 5 QUINTILLION. A QUINTILLION. That's how many human cells there are in total.
This game, as it stands, seems like a very empty game. Sure its infinite, but it seems to just be infinitely nothing. Maybe he is keeping it all a secret but the 70 questions video shows me how little he has actually added to this game so far. He says there are no objectives and to make your own objectives up. But if there is nothing to do but fly around, it feels like there is no progression and people will get bored really fast. Could be another one of those "oooh, look at the shiny graphics" games. I want survival elements because otherwise, what are you living for if you can't die, y'know? Is it like that Iphone game where you tap the cube endlessly until you get to the center? Where you do one simple thing that seems very monotonous but the thought of finding what is in the center ( of the galaxy ) looks like keeps you going? I Just hope this game comes out on PC so at least then if its just one of those graphics games then it will look pretty nice.
Yea true but there is things to do explore vast underwater planes and above Water sometimes you'll have to fight creatures they just haven't showed that there is space combat there is mining if you don't want to explore like I do you van go through the onslaught of making it to the centre of the galaxy I'm predicting that will take as long as dark soles did eg 60 hours or even longer it gets increasingly harder as you get closer to the centre and there's even black holes and portals what more do you want you have to get a new ship and a hyperdrive and you have to get better ones that's going to take a wile plus all those cool creatures to find and name yourself I'm so hyped

+Fun's Box To be honest, I found Starbound to be pretty disappointing. It's more of an rpg than a space exploration game.

what they could have done was customization of ships where you can add a new pars to the one you buy so yo can make a traveling home.

Minecraft world is similar size like earth...NMS have 18,400 000 000 000 000 000 earth sized planets and space betven em...NMS is mindblowingly big
