Great review Tyll. However there is one case that I cannot agree with you: the Oppo didnt sound as good as the LCD2. This Oppo one sounded truly rolled in the treble even though I tried it with Oppo own's amp, it sounded very mid oriented with a very congested soundstage. While the LCD2 to my ears still sound way more balanced and its definitely more unique with that glorious bass and the truly natural sound. I do agree with you they are just a little bit grainy, just a tiny tad though;)). I believe that the FR graph between these 2 hps also points out that. The oppo seems like a fine consumer headphone rather than a hifi product though. Just my 2 cents. Love your work and honest reviews.
hi what are the best headphones for music as opposed to the high price I want them just for music noise cancellation or presentation isn't really an issue I'm looking for comfortable to wear but above all the best sound quality
I have them, I find them too open sounding. The bass is really shy:on music where i wish the bass there isn't, It has a dzing sound in it on the high. I want more bass, what do i change?
I know that people are always suggesting that you review a particular headphone, but so many times, they are of a very popular model that is readily available, and easy to check out. I wanted to suggest a couple, that could replace a "Wall of Famer", or two, that are lesser-known. The Koss KSC-35 (only available from the Koss website), is clip-on, and sounds much better than the KSC-75, and the Yuin G1-A, which is also a clip-on, and a bit on the pricey side, but is truly, "High End", and could compete with the Sennheiser HD-600's/650's.
+InnerFidelity I need your opinion on something please. I want to get some high end headphones but i'm not sure which ones. Are these oppo's better than sennheiser's HD800? Do you still think that they are better than the LCD-2?
Why do most really high end headphones have a dual entry cable for left and right channel? It's seems odd, only really expensive or really cheap headphones have this feature. Then there are a bunch in the middle at the $150-350 range that have a single jack. What is the advantage or disadvantage to either system?
The maker of the current smartphones is the corporate Oppo in China. The maker of the headphones are Oppo Digital, Inc in the USA. While the Oppo brand name is the same, Oppo Digital is a privately owned company. The PM-1 was released a couple months ago and is their first headphone so far. So they are new to the headphone industry.
Adrian D. exactly the same company, the one in the US is just a sales and service branch. they make bluray players, cell phones and now hifi headphones. the guy that left oppo and stated the one+ one cell phone company used to be the director for the bluray player department.
Adrian D. (The reply from 夏春秋 above is not correct.) Yes the "Oppo" name/label is the same, but they are not the same company. Oppo Digital, Inc in the USA is it's own business, and is independent from the corporate Oppo in China that primarily makes cell phones among some other things. The primary research, development, design, ect, for the Blu-ray players and headphones, are all done by the employees of Oppo Digital, Inc in Mountain View, California. They may use resources from elsewhere like Japan and UK, etc... but again their business is in California and that is where they operate from.
Great review. However, you review high end audio but your videos are plagued with background noise. Ironic.
> 1099$ headphones
> Use them around the pool
Bless you, Tyll.
Lol.
Great review...but the background noise is terrible.
YES i agree with everyone PLEASE INVEST IN A BETTER MICROPHONE the hissing background sound is really annoying :/
dont not even expect these to be even remotely close to the lcd-2 but im amazed. World class sound in such an efficiant headphone
Wow, I only just about know Oppo for smartphones, never thought they were this versatile. Nice.
Oppo makes excellent DVD players well known for their sound ability, I own one and CD's and Hybrid CD's sound great when played on it.
Blu-ray players for high end audio setups and now a high end headphone amplifier as well
How would you compare OPPO PM1 to SENNHEISER HD 800S ?

Love your work and honest reviews.
So is it scrumptious or is it luxurious? This is very important.
Thanks Tyll! Keep up the very good work!
can you PLEASE invest in a better mic? You channel is all about high quality audio - it's ironic how your mic quality is so bad.
Very nice review, thanks.
Spend sometime listen to it in my local store...the sounds is OK but not as good as those from Audeze and Hifiman
I've heard this headphone too, and you're right about everything Tyll so great review :-)
is it a thousand dollar bass?
Have you heard the PM-2 as well?? At $700, Oppo might have another winner

How is the bass? Any significant difference from the Fidelio X1?
Martin Bakov thank you!
how do they perform vs lcd x?
InnerFidelity Where do you get all the money to buy all these headphones?
They are sent to him by the manufacturer free because he's a professional

How long has Oppo been in the headphone market? Never thought they made headphones, only smartphones lol. :)

They are known for their Blu Ray players. They have only recently got into headphones with PM-1 and PM-2.
David Hiner thanks for your answer! So Oppo and Oppo is two different companies or did I misunderstood?
