Oppo Digital is located down the street from me, so I picked my PM-3 / HA-2 combo direct from their HQ. Real bunch of nice guys. Small company, but they make some amazing product. These headphones are so neutral, it's great if you are looking for that. They won't be the most "exciting" set of cans so if you want an in-your-face sound that comes from artificially bloated bass and treble, look elsewhere. But if you want accurate and detailed reproduction as intended by the original recording, these are amazing. They sound expensive at first, but when you factor in they give you a REAL carrying case of excellent quality, as well as two nice cables, it's not bad at all.
+Brian Westfield Lucky you.. I had a look to buy these as I had to return the review sample. Can't find them anywhere and they're €600 now on amazon.de...
Great review, well done all around. I just ordered some in Canada. With our exchange rate an even cheaper deal than buying in the USA. I'll receive them soon, bought purely on the fantastic reviews I've read and seen. I'm sure I'll comment again when I take a listen.
There seems to be a slight tug of war within the review community regarding this headphone.......Half say the headphone is neutral, slightly treble soft, and the other 50% say its bright, with a "V" shape, and not fatiguing.... So, it cant be both., therefore, the disagreement must be based on the Dac-amp being used. One thing that is in agreement is that everyone who reviews it says its a great headphone....this is a consensus.
Good Review I guess i agree with the little "natural" feeling of the PM-3, they sounds great..but even with my Ha-2 it is more on "natural" feeling. But on the other hand i use my P7 as my daily cans, just love the design of them and with a decent amp they just deliver a great and fun sound.
Had gehoopt om deze voor dezelfde prijs te kunnen kopen als in de US (399), jammer dat ze zo veel duurder zijn in belgië : /. Ik dacht bijna de ideale headphone te hebben gevonden, goede video trouwens!
Great review on the Oppo PM3. I am awaiting the arrival of my PM3. I was wondering if I could buy a cable like the QED Profile J2J for it. Would it be able to fit the socket on the side of the headphone since it has a stepped jack? =) TIA
Great review, thank you! After watching a lot of these videos I'm convinced to pick up a pair of these. Seems like the best value. Oppo should send you a pair of free headphones!
I asked Santa for pair, Do you recommend upgrading to Tidal ? with my current setup I can't really notice a difference between Spotify and Tidal streams. Only oldie and Classical music sounds better on Tidal ! Also do they suit music with a lot of low end ?
how do these compare against the msr7?, i'm planning on buying a pair for the go and library considering that i mostly listen to classical, metal and acustic music wich one would you pick? i can get the msr7 for 200usd soo it's worth the extra 200 for the oppo? and regarding durability the planar magnetic driver can get easily destroyed? (for example if i drop them or they fall).
nice review! one thing i would like to ask though, does it get dirty? and if so, can you wipe it clean? I'm just concerned about it getting incredibly dirty over time. i could choose the black version, but i want to get the white one. Thanks for your reply...
Well, the hard part is over, you've helped me make a decision. Now, I only have to find the money. Damn you Oppo! :P Great review mate. Keep up the good work. Also, sound's fine, I guess. Maybe tone it down a bit as it's a litte harsh. No biggie though.
Hoe zou je ze vergelijken met een V-Moda LP2? Aan te raden om electro/house mee te luisteren? Ben op zoek naar een nieuwe mobiele over-ear om on the go te gebruiken.
Great review! Trying to decide whether to drop the extra 150 over the Sony mdr-1a to grab these. Thoughts and advice to a new audiophile will be appreciated!
+Tim Hegedus The Oppo sure sounds and feels a lot better, but I'm not sure if they're 150 of whatever your currency is better. I'd say go for it though, you'll like them very much
At This pricepoint in europe i think they're are bit overpriced. 399 usd is decent enough. Too bad there's no real leather used as it would be the cherry on top. Right now I'm in between these and the MH40's
Sebastian Nowakowski Both are excellent picks that are beautifully styled and have the sound to back it up. The MH40'S are a bit easier to drive because they have dynamic drivers as opposed to the PM-3's planar magnetic drivers. That being said, I believe that the PM-3's are more accurate while the MH40's are more colored in the bass and treble. Hope that helps :-)
宋豫霖 the obvious difference is open back vs close back :p I'd assume the ad2000 is more comfortable because of its light weight and the 3d wing instead of a normal headband which I'm afraid of pressure points, causing headache @.@
I haven't. I don't really see the point in such a device. It just adds bulkyness and with low impedance headphones you don't need the amp. Unless if you want to destroy your ears of course.
well it's a mobile dac so you can't use usb audio out of your phone. It converts the analog signal from your phone to a new analog signal to your headphone. There is no dac or digital to analog conversion happening, it can only distort or amplify the signal.
Unicorn Reviews This is actually wrong. Most Android devices use USB OTG so you're actually using that audio out over USB from your device. It works great from my LG G4.
Very good video! Congrats Would you like to try my MrSpeakers Alpha-Prime's? (with a CEntrance M8-LX + Astel&Kern AK100 II new model, of de FIIO E18, FIIO X1) I live in Brussels ... ;-) En ik ben nederlandstalig.
Hi, thank you for the offer! I never heard of that company so I'll send them an e-mail later this week. I can't really start with reviewing other people's headphones, the logistics are hard enough already :) but again, thank you, i appreciate it
Unicorn Reviews MrSpeakers is a LA USA based company, they are 1300€ (including import tax), the CEntrance M8 (Fully balanced DAC+AMP) is also about 800€ the AK100 II ... 1000€ .... So, you might prefer to get mine to test! ;-) As you prefer ...

I own these. They're good for rock and metal, but for any kind of bass heavy music they just fall flat on their face. If your primary music genres are electronic then steer far away from these.
+bloozism Thank you, I was about to buy them but my preffered genre is electronic however I do listen to everything like jazz, classical or rock. I do like bass for my electronic music.
Cambaudio Glad I could help out. Of course burn-in and amping will change them, but if you bought these, put them on and then hit play on EDM/DnB or the like, you'd be like "damn what did i just buy"

Nice review, might look to buy a pair in the future. PS: Your aperture settings with your closeup shots needs a little adjusting, no h8.

dreyn497 Didn't get dirty while I was using it, a friend bought the black version some time ago and he hasn't complained about stains either.
Great video...!!! Definitely I will get them, I'm sold. Thank you... (By the way which song is playing in the background...?)
I need a sound demo of this headphones
Great video! Very thorough.
Great impartial review! great Job.. I think I am sold!

Excellent review Thanks very much.
I don't think these headphones come with enough boxes and bags. I like lots of crap so I don't feel too bad about paying way too much for my stuff.
Good review! Can I ask where you purchased them from?
+Unicorn Reviews thanks!

Thanks for the review have you heard the sennheiser momentum 2.0? how would these stack against those?
TheFijianGuy Well from what I heard about it, the momentum 2.0 is nothing compared to this. The wireless doesn't even work with most devices...
Unicorn Reviews What would be your favorite pair of portable headphones.
TheFijianGuy these, by far
are these better than the sennheiser hd 650???

would this be an overkill for PS4 gaming?
yes
even though I plan to connect them during gaming on my Harman Kardon receiver?
yep
It seems PM-3 isn't much cheaper than ATH AD2000 or Sony Z7. How would you compare the AD2000 and PM-3? Which one would you prefer?
宋豫霖 the obvious difference is open back vs close back :p I'd assume the ad2000 is more comfortable because of its light weight and the 3d wing instead of a normal headband which I'm afraid of pressure points, causing headache @.@
compared to the audeese lcd x, how does it stand?
Do you mind sharing what headphone stand this is? Thanks...Love my PM3's as well!!!
+Travis Cooper Something cheap by sharkoon, but no idea what it's called
+Unicorn Reviews Thank you!
Nice review, thanks! Have you tried the Oppo HA-2? I'm thinking of pairing it with the PM-3.

Really like those shiny screws too.
How does that white hold up against dirt stains?
Thanks for the reply...not.
Did you end up finding a 3rd party L-shaped aux cable for these headphones?
+Michael Galluzzo yes, the internet is full of them. Just need to go narrow enough
+Michael Galluzzo yes, the internet is full of them. Just need to go narrow enough
try v-moda cables, they are really good quality and finish in an angled connector, and they fit in the oppos.
thanks man much appreciated
Great video :)
Are you Dutch? I notice the accent and your typical dutch home interior :)
I'm from Flanders :)
peace
400$ on their website. 600$ here in sweden.... ''/
what is your accent?
Bargain?
$400 for a planar magnetic headphone is incredibly cheap
Unicorn Reviews If you say so but that seems a lot for some headphones
Punjab Hajsaki Yea but they're not just regular headphones

compared to my desktop headphones, the he-560, the bass is paltry.

oh man are you missing out. amp them through a desktop unit and they fucking KICK.
too small for non-asian ears
very disappointing
