    Hi,
    Few days ago, I passed by my AD in Sthlm and very unexpected but one of my contacts in the shop came out to me and showed me 36mm bubble OP and I had a moment to try it on and take a close look in real life with my own eyes. And hype or not, I must say that I liked it! It was fun, fresh and sporty. I Do not care about secondary value nor any flipping and I think I gonna try to get one of these if possible on retail. OP is a great useful tool watch without polished surface and I guess a fun dial does not hurt.
    Thanks for a another great video. Really like your input here! Thanks

    Yes it’s so ugly that I’m sure it’s already being considered a “modern art masterpiece.” Reminds me of an article I read several years ago where a young aspiring art student had a pet rooster. • @mybrainlikesthings
    @mybrainlikesthings ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This dial looks like a Tsum Tsum puzzle game, where you eliminate the bubbles by pairing them up by colour. And gravity plays a part in this, because you see the bubbles collecting in the lower half, with bubbles proping other bubbles up. There is an implied elasticity of movement. So let's say that the two touching red bubbles are the start of a chain-reaction, where the first thing to happen are the two red ones "popping" or otherwise disappearing. What happens next? Well, the three yellows next to them will fall into place, connecting between the 5 and the centre; When they "pop", the two blue ones (one at the centre falling towards the one on 5) will come next and "pop". Lastly, the greens, at 4 and 5 will touch and "pop". So what's this potentially saying? I suspect that it's trying to bring attention to the number 5, possibly representing the number of colours.

    I just got home with this in 41mm and i’m checking as many sources as possible to ensure it’s the real deal, having bought it on the grey market at well over rrp. The one thing I would say is that when a watch dealers or reviewers online handle this watch and look at the dial, as i’m finding myself doing too, is we all smile. It’s all well and good sitting in your bedroom huffing and puffing about a watch you've never seen in person, but watches are actually a tactile and intimate personnel thing. I love wearing my gmt aqua terra with a milanese strap, my early naughties omega 300m, the tiffany blue strapped solar beat and i will smile everytime i glance at my Celebration Rolex

    There is no way the designer did not know that the two ed bubbles touch. Possibly the reason for the two touching red bubbles is further meta-commentary, but I think it's also possible that the goal wasn't to create a piece where no two colours touch, since in my opinion at a glance, the colour distribution with the small bubble being red not green is better.

    This reminded me of a story told to me by my friend who worked for an established brand.
    The design team use big data to create what AI thinks would sell.
    Then the resulted looking hidiously ugly.
    So the whole team began to be skeptical of that it would sell, laughed that they were so sure that nobody would buy this piece of junk.
    Then this product became their best seller.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Excellently said. AI is going to make so, so many people (and their jobs) redundant - how it's being used in the music industry and now for art... it's only the beginning... I feel for the creative fields in a lot of ways. Something tells me more of this will be implemented in the future and sure they'll be great, but will lack that personal touch. BUT as long as it sells, right? 🥃

    • @skzion2
      @skzion2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ID-GuyRegarding the music industry, AI could replace so many of the artists because they're not very good.
      Will an AI write Mozart? I doubt it. Even most human conductors mess it up, especially when they think too much of themselves. But to create it from scratch? No.
      However, "art," like "music," can easily be created by an AI.

      I personally believe when Art is seen as an investment, it's no longer about aesthetic beauty and people buy what's going to be more expensive no matter how ugly the art is, as long as it's numbered and has an well known artist name signed on it.
      If that's the case, AI is so much faster cheaper and efficient way to make more money.
      Enthusiasts in a sence of aesthetic, beauty and craftsmanship, will probably will be against it, but how many percentage of the actuall buyers would be that kind of enthusiasts ,Is a question especially for Rolex unfortunately.
      I am not saying all of the Rolex buyers buy watches for that reason.

I actually saw value there or something the wife could wear or the daughter when she is older. Still went for the 41 tho. Ha - probably a mistake - but I could dig and wear it. Got on the list. Fast forward a few months and I get the call for one on my list, the Polar, 226570 - love it. Upon pick up, we were talking about the 2 remaining watches on my list - this and the Panda. I was told the 'bubble' dial is in such high demand, that it will likely be discontinued before I ever get the chance. In addition, the AD has yet to see even one among all 3 stores. Was told I will definitely see the Panda first (or last if you will) and that may be a couple more years. Either way, I am fine and do like (not love) it anyway - mainly for its collectability. Whatever happens, happens - however, there is no doubt this one will be a winner.

      It's a sad state that even Rolex themselves at retail have outpriced themselves with incremental price increases. Think I saw something like a 12% increase in some areas this year. The Grey market game... watches like these are their bread and butter and Rolex continues to produce them. It's difficult to know if the brand is interested in digging themselves out of these many, many holes? 😆

    I have quite a lot fun and casual watches. This type of watch is wearing in the weekend or sporting. Usually I will rotate each of these fun watches so to me I feel that fun watch is the least important watch to collect. A watch collector shall pay more attention to verify and validate the daily working horse watches as it is wearing during your work to conquer the world.

    • @ID-Guy

      Does feel like these are made as "additions" to a collection - maybe another one of those desirables like the Daytona, GMT etc. that people will be going mad for because they're so different 🥃

    Playfull, ironic, just a bit of fun.
    Would not have guessed Rolex had it in them, but good for them, if it is an inside joke.
    Works, as you point out, as a comment of the unexpected sales of the other coloured dials.
    Interesting and different, but not for me. Just like the other coloured dialed Oysters in that regard.

  • @Cuccos19

    There is the dial with 3-6-9 (Explorer, maybe) is a good start... I wish Rolex would make the Oyster Perpetual with full set of Arabic numbers (just like a field watch but in Rolex style), give a more pronaunced handles (cathedral, sword, etc) and 200m water resistance for extra measure around water. Oh, and all this stuff in a 34mm case for my not to thick wrist (6,5", I think), now that would be my watch! Case color... what ever, but I love yellow, orange, or more conventional dark sunburst blue.
