You actually brought me back to Theo and Harris videos. I really enjoy your solo content and I think a lot of people do too. You have very good energy, and the vibe that you create is much more my style. Really enjoyed the last few videos. Thank you. 🎉
I like their chemistry together, but Michael has a great self-deprecating charm that is really relatable and I laughed out-loud at this video, probably more than any other recent ones. Nicely done, Michael.
I do agree, please do not get me wrong but when the other guy will have came back I am doubting if I will continue watching the channel, the other guy is not so authentic like Kris, is like he is pretending something that he is not really and this affect the videos, unfortunately we do not have so many solo from Kris, he should have his own channel
I’ve really enjoyed the “Harris Unleashed” solo series but equally look forward to the supergroup reforming… I think the celebration and puzzle dials, is Rolex’s equivalent of the MoonSwatch. Polarizing but marketing genius, and the coverage helps them reach new and younger audiences. Inter-generational watch collecting. My view is 1/different watches exhibit different facets of your style and personality and this speaks to the fun and playful side. It’s not that it’s the only watch. 2/some of the less popular Rolex models turned out to be the most sought after after they got discontinued (eg The Daytona Beach)
This is too sappy for this conversation, but your legacy to your children is your relationship with them and how you care for and about them. If they know you love them and you give them a wonky green watch or gumball watch or old ratty tie it won't matter what it is, it will matter that it represents you to them.
Hahahaha I’m so honoured that you read my comment on the video!!!! Yes it’s true, I do find the watch EW, but I’m very happy to hear that you genuinely like it! Most folks get certain watches cause it’s a Rolex, you want the watch cause you’re genuine, different, unique and most of all confident. RESPECT Michael!
If you don't have conviction about your future watch, why even buy now? Read more books, watch more videos, go to more meetups. Mull over your tastes and preferences and become a subject matter expert. Then and only then will your future watch reveal itself.
I think you're right. It's playful. If it was a Seiko nobody would question it. People are too conservative with spending that level of money. It's like buying a Jeff Koons work.
Can't believe Mikey almost got peer pressured out of his goofy Rolex, and peer pressured by his non-existent grandkids of all people. Man, my kids are gunna inherit watches with tigers on the dial and dive watches that are meant to look like tuna sushi, and they're gunna be happy about it or else.
I think if you went with the safe choice, the black dial, you'd never stop thinking about the celebration. Listen to your heart and tell your future grandkids to deal with it.
The celebration dial is cool. I like it a lot. Would I buy it, no. Would I wear it, yes. Would I sell it, yes. Would I choose it over a black dial DateJust, yes.
Congrats for your choice! Life is too short, and there are plenty of reasons to be sad. I'd rather have a dad that knew how to be silly about silly things (like obsolete mechanical devices to tell time), and shared with me a authentic joy. Both celebration and jigsaw watches, for me, feel beautiful. The colors are rich, the cases are all time classics, and the heft of rolex quality is coming through, even in the photos.
I think the celebration dial is fun. I wouldn’t wear it, but my wife loves it and she’s on the list for the 31mm version. I think the dial really suits the smaller sizes. Not so sure about the 41mm. A little OTT in my opinion.
Thanks for sharing the kind of funny story, which is totally real. I think the generational thought is a good one, especially for someone who might get “just” one Rolex or one luxury watch. As a middle-aged man whose father loved watches and fortunately had means to buy some, I must note my brother and I each have a different favorite watch of his four luxury watches and they are his two least expensive by a significant margin and the two we don’t prefer are ones others certainly would. That’s all to say that I’m glad that he bought what he loved and enjoyed - there’s a lot of difficulty guessing what others, including those who share half one’s genes, will like or love.
Different watches will serve different folks. For instance, I’m currently a medical student. If I were to specialize in cardio thoracic surgery I would prefer a traditional Daydate - serious, clean, and precise. But if I were an outpatient pediatrician I could see myself wearing the Celebration into work. It’s also a watch from a reputable brand, but it is also more fun and could make a visit to the doctor a little more of an approachable event for a child. Great video, Michael!
Enjoyed you on the RBR chat. Thanks for joining. Get the watch YOU want. You're 20+ years away from giving anything to kids and will have a collection to choose from. Maybe that's the watch they'll remember you by because it's the most fun. Then you'll know you made the right decision.
@@timeisahumanconstruct9251 They are boring, the saturation is not that great, and they are all at the same level of it. Also why only 4 colors ?, some of the balloons are the same color as the background. It is terrible. If you are gonna do something like this, IMO, you have to throw the kitchen sink at it.
Must be real nice to have ADs that want to get you the watches you want.. Here in Singapore you gotta to play the game by buying shelf warmer watches to even get a chance at the allocation.
I am on the list for the 36mm "Bubbles" at 2 AD's. Was told by both that the list is quite long and will be limited production. I stll hope to get one but doesn't sound promising.
The best TH-cam comment of the 2023 Watches and Wonders releases... "I never thought about the intergenerational trauma people are gonna have if I get the wrong Rolex..."🤣
People getting these “fun” Rolex watches, especially at list at the AD, are high rollers who don’t care if this dial ages well and what these watches will beworth in a few decades. They buy it because money is no issue and they just want a fun dial for now. The Middle Eastern, Russian and Asian market will go crazy for these watches. I think it’s a brilliant move by Rolex.
After first hearing his transition on the Celebration dial and then on the Kermit, we discovered that Michael is that guy who lets other people tell him who he is. EDIT: Commenting in real time here - glad to hear he ended up with the Celebration dial. Be who you are! You can't predict what your children will want, so don't try. Besides, who is to say you won't have a daughter?
Whatever watch you get your kid will be proud to wear it. Once you have a baby you won’t care anymore what others think about you. Great content. Thank you Michael!
The celebration dial Oyster Perpetual is a cool watch, I dont really like Oris that much but when my 7 year old daughter saw it she loved it. Basically it is kinda fun but yeah, I totally get your point.
Buy what you like. Who cares what your future kids/grandkids might like/not like… be single-minded and focussed. 👍🇬🇧 You can always buy a classic DateJust to counter the craziness! OP41 Celebration for the win… 🙂
Michael, get the watch you want. It's your life too. I personally like the puzzle even more than the dippin dotz (bubbles) one. It's like this; go balls deep or don't go in at all 😎 hahaha but seriously, your kids would think even more about you when they see you with that watch because it's so different than something you might typically see.
I have silly watches and solid watches. My daughter, at age 4, already loves watches. And she would look at a Kermit and say, "dad was such a nerd. But this watch is so fun."
If you went through this back and forth about buying the watch, I wonder how many times at Rolex headquarters the people were like, “Are we really going to release this dial or should we just change something on our date just line?” Also made me think about cars - sometimes we want something flashy but we end up buying the colour for the next owner in order to protect the resell value and so we pick a white, black, silver or something grey?!
I think they are awesome honestly. The watch space overall, which I think leans too much into tradition and conservative tastes, needs to shake things up more. Of course these things aren't for everyone, but what watch is for everyone? I suppose some would say certain models of Rolex haha . . . but I think that's also why it made sense for Rolex to do this (esp having gotten rid of one of their most unique/quirky models, the Milgauss).
Yes that’s the reputation you have. At least it’s well-deserved! It’s the thought that counts - give your kid your Rolex and if you raised him right, he will treasure it forever.
The positive about those Rolex is that I'm thinking about taking some of my ish watches and giving the dials to my kids for a custom job. Could be fun...
This should be called the Clown, for its nickname. The celebration dial that is. It’s ridiculous, it’s preposterous, it’s silly…….I’ll be calling my AD later to put me on the list 😂
My favorite Ozzie Osborne quote (when Sharon Osborne installed a bubble machine on his concert stage): “Bubbles? I’m [F’ng] Ozzie Osborne” …. Doesn’t this apply to Rolex too?
Im shure selebration dial is something that will be cut off i a year so it will be practicly limited edition. I dont see why you are worried. You have dayjust that you ware all the time for years that is actually your watch plus you have tone of other incredible time pices. If you dont sell them and service them your kids would have tone of stuff to chose off. That is kind of green light to make like 20 of them. So you have each kid for one watch
Wow. From old flames in monster trucks to inter-generational trauma. I don't know about the celebration dial, but this video is most certainly a future classic. I plan on getting a Rolex when I eventually retire, but it's going to be blue Datejust. When I'm looking for fun and quirky I Iean towards micro-brands (and I love them!), not Rolex. With the big boys, I want the classics, but that's just me. Some would find that predictable and boring, and I wouldn't argue with them. Regardless, I say live for today, and buy what you like.
I want the celebration dial 36 mm for my wife. I do not see myself wearing one, but it would look great on my wife's wrist, and then handed down to our daughter. My son has dibs on my GMT M2. Thx Michael for helping me with that decision.
Enjoyed watching you by yourself, been a great “sub teacher.” Also I would love the celebration dial and have put my name on a list. I also have an explorer 36mm so my kids will have a boring yet beautiful watch and if they don’t like the celebration dial well then tough.. 😅
Wow, this is a level of indecision that I can really identify with. Michael, I think you made the right choice! I think this would be the perfect class clown in your collection that also gets straight A’s.
"The family Rolex is a gumball machine" ROFLMAO. Great episode, Michael. BTW, my favorite watch in my collection is my green dial OP36. And I am waiting for my AD to get me a turquoise dial OP36. yes me too I actually thought the same.
I like their chemistry together, but Michael has a great self-deprecating charm that is really relatable and I laughed out-loud at this video, probably more than any other recent ones. Nicely done, Michael.

P.S. Michael, work on your Spanish accent (it’s not Jesus; think jalepeño)
HONORED TO HAVE READ IT!
You made the right choice, you can get a datejust anytime.
Indecision is death. Saying that, props to you telling the story. Great content.
If you don't have conviction about your future watch, why even buy now? Read more books, watch more videos, go to more meetups. Mull over your tastes and preferences and become a subject matter expert. Then and only then will your future watch reveal itself.
Don't sell yourself short Michael! You did great man :-) Nice work to you and to you both as always. Cheers!
I like the bubbles. Not a fan of the puzzle. They are not my type of watch, but I have the feeling they will be as easy to get as a Daytona.
The celebration dial really isn’t that wild. I don’t know what everyone is losing their minds over.
I think you're right. It's playful. If it was a Seiko nobody would question it. People are too conservative with spending that level of money. It's like buying a Jeff Koons work.

Michael, you are very talented at delivering watch content. I enjoy your solo videos! Keep it up.
yes you should get the celebration OP. It's probably nicer in reality then on internet
The celebration dial was a great idea but so poorly executed, it’s plain circles why didn’t they make balloons or bubbles?
Whoever you pass the watch on will love it because of what it meant to you. The Celebration dial is lush. I want one.
I think if you went with the safe choice, the black dial, you'd never stop thinking about the celebration. Listen to your heart and tell your future grandkids to deal with it.

What would be more difficult to get...The OP 36 Tiffany or the OP 36 celebration dial?
Different watches will serve different folks. For instance, I’m currently a medical student. Looking at how my kids see watches I think I'm better off buying them for me than posterity 😂
It does look like a kids toy watch.
Both dials are terrible. The ones with the circles, why the boring colors ?
They are are the colors of the colorful OPs that were released in 2020. Quite ugly, but that’s the reason
Not sure where you're from, but those colors are not boring. Black is boring. White is boring. Grey is boring.

Why a 36 and not a 41? I expressed my interest for a 41 since I have a 124060 and love the fit on my wrist.
You worry too much about imaginary scenarios 50-70 years in the future.
So many verieties of wrist watches. i like them all.
My kids get what I give them lol 😂

the emoji watch is great. does it always say love in the day spot or are there different words? if there are different words how is it useless?
The puzzle is very clever, that will work.
Really enjoyed these solo videos!
Rolex does a silly dial: How unexpected, it's amazing!
Oris does a silly dial: Ew...
My dad left me an IWC Ingenieur 3508 - it’s taken me 22 years to really appreciate what it is

I think your videos are the best. 👍
Michael should always do these solo!
just means you need to try it on in person! nothing wrong with that :) I'm sure you'll love it you quirky kooky guy you!

Have you got it yet?
What a ramble!!!!!!!!! You’re on the list are you? Dream on buddy
They are awesome!
The celebration dial is cool, it’s not another drab model like 99% of there catalogue.
good point on the generational thing
This should be called the Clown, for its nickname. The celebration dial that is. It’s ridiculous, it’s preposterous, it’s silly…….I’ll be calling my AD later to put me on the list 😂
How hard would it be for you to just order both...
My favorite Ozzie Osborne quote (when Sharon Osborne installed a bubble machine on his concert stage): “Bubbles? I’m [F’ng] Ozzie Osborne” …. Doesn’t this apply to Rolex too?

Great video flying solo as always Michael.
One day, the celebration Dial will be the holy Grail of hard to find, obscure Rolex. Been on the list since the day it came out. Here’s hoping.
Nice goin Michael, get what YOU want not what people think you should like.
I want the celebration dial 36 mm for my wife. I do not see myself wearing one, but it would look great on my wife's wrist, and then handed down to our daughter. My son has dibs on my GMT M2. I should go and ahead and put my name on one. Haven't done it because I don't feel there is a chance in heck I would ever get that call. But what the heck, I'll give it a shot.
Good Luck!!!
If your children graduate from clown collage they will be grateful.
The new Kermit Presidential by Oris. 🤣
"The family Rolex is a gumball machine" ROFLMAO. Great episode, Michael. BTW, my favorite watch in my collection is my green dial OP36. And I am waiting for my AD to get me a turquoise dial OP36. But that celebration dial OP is hideous. Poorly executed dial. However, I love the "emoji" Day Date. And no wasted time setting the day and date :) P.S. The Oris is seriously fugly.
Michael what was the point of this video??? You were somewhat rambling.
You. Are. Hilarious. Love your videos Michael
I like watches that aren't popular and nobody has (as long as i like them). I'm into the celebration dial. Would i way overpay on grey market? no. would an AD ever give it to me? no. So I'll never get it but I would if I could!
Day Date went from prestige to a joke and a wasted effort. Big swing and a miss.
No, in 60 and 70 years this will still be a ridiculous watch. I understand wanting to be fun, but the execution of the bubbles is terrible. Ask any designer if it makes sense. They even covered up part of the Rolex text.
As someone with three young kids, f*** em when it comes to buying watches. It's too much to predict. You have no idea what watches you'll still have at that point or if your kids will even care.
I really like the bubbles
But dislike the puzzles
Michael telling us about his fever dream in that intro
I think if you work hard and save up for years to get your one ‘special’ watch, the celebration dial isn’t it. This watch if for those who wouldn’t notice the money missing from their account so props to you Michael for getting because you want it, or think you want it, or because you think you should want it because you’re the zany guy who gets crazy obscure watches! No, because you actually want it.
Haven't you heard of Mr Jones watches?
Should always be about the watch you want. Your kids might not even care much about watches, and if they do, they'll surely cherish any that you pass down to them even if it's not really their "flavour" so to speak. Personally not a fan of the new Rolex "fun" dials. Though oddly I do like the Oris Kermit.
Just because they inherit the watch doesn't mean they have to wear it all the time. It is more important that if reminds them of you
Had this in the background and had to completely pay attention when you said this was gonna be the "Last Dance." 😅
I don’t think any thought should be given into what watch you’ll pass down to your kids and if they’ll like it. If you raise them right they’ll appreciate anything you give them. If they don’t who cares, it’s your money. They can buy their own then.
Interesting take 👍
Maybe people focus too much on legacy, buy what you like and don't worry about if your hypothetical children will enjoy your taste. If they don't like it they can sell it and get something they like that will still be a reminder of you.
WTF? Why are there no comments about the monster truck story? That was just... amazing.
I hope you get it, but I fear it is going to be really limited.
Rumor has it that the bubble dial makes girls in monster trucks swoon.
1st, NO ONE should DECIDE whether or NOT to BUY a WATCH based UPON the Hodinkee comment SECTION. 2nd, I LOVE everything ABOUT these NEW releases!!!
valid points!
You should get the Ball Pit because it sings to you. Black DJs will be available in the foreseeable future should you desire one later.
No more flip flopping when you get the call. Bite the bullet, thank your friend's AD, build that relationship, and enjoy the watch.
