I have a 36mm op with black face too I may say it is simply beautiful rather than boring. Every time I hold my watch I will remove my short sight eye glass (I am 60+) and look at it closely- there are so many details to enjoy except the back cover

My first Rolex was a Gold Shell OP date that I purchased back in 1984. It was my daily driver for 33 years, before I started to get more serious into my Rolex collection. On another topic it's shocking to hear how serious your accident was. You seem like you are back to 100% now,, which must bee a huge relief. So glad you and your OP survived to continue to bring us great watch content!

Not sure I’d call any watch boring but mine is the Omega Aqua Terra 38mm with dark blue dial. I have my name down with my local AD for a 36mm Explorer but I’m not sure if all the boxes aren’t ticked by the AT already

Have this 124200 in bright blue. The inky blue dial is amazing. I’ve got a 6.3” wrist and the 34mm is about perfect. Only thing I might slightly change is slightly thicker lugs. Like 19 to 15mm taper. Instead of the 18mm to 14mm here.

I went with the OP over a Milgauss and Exp2 because it is the PUREST expression of what makes a Rolex great. The brand is practically built on the self-winding, waterproof masterpiece; all you have to do is look at the dial of any of their more “coveted” models and you’ll see OYSTER PERPETUAL. ❤ There’s almost pretentiousness associated with it - it’s simply a durable and accurate timepiece that can be relied on for a lifetime! 😊
Mine is a 2018 116000 with the eggshell dial.

I love that they're still doing the 34mm classic size Rolex.. I have a couple of bigger watches, but keep going back to my old oysterdates and OPs.. Perfect size for a watch in my opinion.. 🥰

The two-tone Oyster Perpetual is probably the most beautiful Rolex made.
The Pepsi GMT Master II is a classic, but the steel and gold OP is very nice on the eye.

Bought this exact watch as my first luxury watch, celebrating my first promotion. As a man with roughly 6.75 inch wrist, I sometimes feel it’s a bit small and boring, but as you said - it’s absolutely timeless. It never feels out of place with any outfit, exactly BECAUSE of it’s size. It’s something gentlemen wore 70 years ago and no one bat an eye. Maybe it is the most “stealth wealth“ luxury watch from the prestigious brands. Not a day has gone by that I didn’t wear it and I still love it, 8 months later. This one will be my heirloom to future kids.

Im a guy with a 6.5in wrist and I absolutely LOVE 34mm watches. In fact I usually won’t go over 36mm for a watch unless it’s a dive watch. I hate when company’s try to gender their watches by size. I think people really miss out on some great watches that way. Your OP looks awesome and it really makes me want to get a 34mm blue one that I’v been eyeballing. The only thing I wouldn’t agree with you about is the gentleman, monta, and Nomos as being alternatives because they wear way bigger than a 34 or 36mm OP.

First, I want to say that I'm glad to see that the recovery is going well for you Britt!!
Second, the snobbery is what holds me back from getting a Rolex. To judge someone for their choice of a material item is insane. In addition, mocking someone's financial status for what they bought is just plain pretentious.
Third, the Rolex OP is like a well tailored navy suit. It's boring on the surface but it will stand the test of time.
Finally, my boring and unsung hero in my watch collection would be the Vaer D4 Solar Diver. A black, no date dive watch is a textbook example of a boring watch. However, that design has stood the test of time. It is versatile and will never look out of place.

( * OK so, OTOH, at least the Porsche dealer *will sell you* a Boxster if you show up with the money...😅 ).

OP is not boring, it is the explorer that I find boring. I am not financially well off to obtain a Rolex OP yet but I have a Pagani Design PD 1690 in Orange and that is a homage for OP orange. Whenever I look at I feel happy. It is symmetrical , no dates, no numbers , no headaches and it gives you that head space to feel peaceful and to admire the beauty of simplicity. Looking at my Orange OP homage is like looking at the painting " Flaming June" Sir Frederic Leighton while listening to the song " Flaming June" by BT. Just a wonderful experience. Love it. May you be well and happy.

I just love both the Explorer and OP. Very understated but classy sports watches. Since I consider both Rolexes well outside my price comfort zone, I scratched my Explorer and OP itch by purchasing a very nice 34mm Hamilton Jazzmaster with black dial and an excellent Nivada Grenchen Super Antarctic with a Soprod P024 auto movement. Both well within my price comfort zone. I am content knowing that I can still afford a half-caff-decaf venti vanilla bean latte topped with gluten free organic whipped cream while admiring my Super Antarctic and Hamilton Jazzmaster.

I was fortunate to get a call on the Explorer much sooner than expected, but even on collection day I started second guessing myself over the OP! The problem is it's still hard to find from AD It's great, but not on the gray market.. . it's only a great watch for list price not a penny more. If some Chad doesn't like your choice of watch for an ignorant reason, then I'd say it's a good choice! I am at a crossroads where I can addord an OP or I can afford an Explorer. I love them both and I have no idea what to go for. I love the Explorer because of the Mercedes hands, the design of the numbers and its classic appeal. I love the OP because it's simple yet elegant and versatile. I also like that the Rolex crown logo is placed rather than printed like it is on the Explorer (correct me if I'm wrong there). I would enjoy them both immensly. The price isn't becoming a factor in this for me as I'd rather get the one I want more but it is however a nice benefit to the OP considering I'd be equally proud to own it.

I see that argument online a lot, that the OP is the one you only buy because you couldn't get anything else. For me it's only one that my tastes don't disqualify. I don't like cyclops date magnifiers and I don't like the mercedes hour hand. The only Rolex sport models left for me to choose from are the Daytona and the Oyster Perpetual, and I like other chronographs more than the Daytona. I wouldn't get it because it was the only one I *could* get, I'd get it because it's the only one I would *want* to get.

0:30 the Explorer 36mm is more iconic and as simple

  • @perosa99

My favorite Rolex are the OP 39 mm (discontinued 😢) and DateJust 36 mm.
The Explorer in 39 mm IMO looses some proportion and equilibrium compared to the 36. But the small Explorer just looks too small on me. The OP in white and black are my favorite

Have always thought about getting a white OP, or maybe a not date sub. But as I much prefer white dials over black, I'm still thinking OP is the go!

#teamboring FTW - I’m a big fan of the Tudor Ranger. I especially like it because most people don’t. Also the Boxter is a brilliant car, which many prefer over the 911.

  • @spex7503
    @spex7503 ปีที่แล้ว

To be honest, any Rolex is likely to be the least interesting option in its category and that's, as you say, a feature not a bug. As for the Boxster comment - my partner drives a Boxster. At one point she bought a 911 to replace it, but ended up flipping it and keeping the Boxster because it was legitimately the better car to drive. Anyone who makes that kind of comment knows nothing about either watches or cars.

What about the air king? My wife’s favorite is an air king concentric, but the black dial looks almost exactly the same as OP, and hers is a 34, not sure if that size is still available

really surprised at the roman numerals, actually a nice and very subtle detail I missed on the OP! another affordable alternative, and very on the nose design, is the Christopher Ward Sealander range

Got the 114300 Rhodium dial. It just disappears on the wrist. Goes with everything. My grail is 14060M 2006-2010 model but I think my next boring Rolex will be 36 mm Explorer.

Love the OP and the Explorer. These are the 911. Timeless and minimalistic. Submariners, daytonas, etc are the Lamborghinis, ferraris and other flashy cars ☺️

OP в диаметре 34 всем хороша, но факт использования механизма-огрызка удручает. Стоило раскошелиться на модель в диаметре 36, а, Бритт?

Nah it's definitely the Datejust. Basically the same but includes one of Rolex's most significant contributions to horology and (depending on options) is more recognizably their look. Right now, polished bezel and oyster bracelet are in style but in reality jubilee and fluted bezel is far more recognizably Rolex.

I think it's a beautiful watch. Having a small wrist as well 6 inches, I'd go the OP 36mm with the red dial. But hey, that's just one guys opinion. I'd also need the $. The only Swiss watch I own and absolutely love is my Tissot PRX 35mm. All my other watches are Seikos.
Love your videos and reviews. Always look forward to them, down here in Australia.
    Kind regards Rikki
