Bought this exact watch as my first luxury watch, celebrating my first promotion. As a man with roughly 6.75 inch wrist, I sometimes feel it’s a bit small and boring, but as you said - it’s absolutely timeless. It never feels out of place with any outfit, exactly BECAUSE of it’s size. It’s something gentlemen wore 70 years ago and no one bat an eye. Maybe it is the most “stealth wealth“ luxury watch from the prestigious brands. Not a day has gone by that I didn’t wear it and I still love it, 8 months later. This one will be my heirloom to future kids.

I’m exactly the same, wear it every day and still loving it! Biggest congrats to YOU! 💕💕💕🎉🎉🎉 may there be many more promotions and many more watches to celebrate!

There is no stealth wealth wearing a Rolex, you wear a Rolex to flex pretending to be rich and announce to the world you are a douche. Stealth wealth is wearing a JLC or A lange sohne for the love of the mechanical movement, where 99% of the population have no idea what it is

One person's "boring" is another person's "versatile." I look at buying a watch for its versatility and with how many outfits or situations I could wear it. I'm right on board with you, Britt. This watch is a classic, standalone piece. In all honesty, I am 45 and my goal is to score my first Rolex for my 50th birthday to mark the occasion. This is the watch I'm aiming for.

I bought the OP 36 with the black dial from my AD for my wife last year and she wears it 24/7.
It's an incredible watch! Even though I have an Airking and a DJ 41 with jubilee and green dial I'm falling more and more in love with that watch and I'm thinking of getting an OP 36 myself.
Awesome watch and definitely one of the best rolexes out there.

My first Rolex was a Gold Shell OP date that I purchased back in 1984. It was my daily driver for 33 years, before I started to get more serious into my Rolex collection. On another topic it's shocking to hear how serious your accident was. You seem like you are back to 100% now,, which must bee a huge relief. Definitely not boring, but understated. That is the whole pount of the OP for me. It says class not flash. A tool that does exactly what a watch should, extremely well. There is nothing to get bored of when you look at it. Everything in the right proportion exactly where it should be.

  • @kelvinwong829

Totally agree with your review, the only Rolex watches I want are the OP36 and Explorer36, simple and "go anywhere, do anything" without being flashy while still enjoying the quality that Rolex provides. Also if I have to choose one youtube channel to watch forever, it would be yours!

  • @bipennate
    @bipennate ปีที่แล้ว +86

Here's my hot-take: almost every Rolex is "the most boring Rolex." But that's also a testament to the Rolex formula being so universally pleasing and yes, iconic. In my opinion, there are a few rolexes that would capture your attention because of their design specifically - for me, the sky dweller or honestly the 1908 are stare-worthy designs - but otherwise, it's the fact that the name on the watch is Rolex that stirs the emotions. And that's ok, too

I have the 41mm with the silver dial. It’s every bit a Rolex and perhaps the most versatile. The screw down crown with 100m WR, brushed centre links and case top make it an ideal daily wearer. The polished bracelet sides, bezel, and curvaceous case flanks, along with the sunray dial with yellow gold markers, hands, and coronet give it enough sparkle, light play, and elegance to wear on formal occasions.

I have a 1961 Tudor Rolex Oyster with all numerals & a 1963 Tudor Rolex Oyster with an early 12470 dial. Both are small, low key, understated. Big watches are like flared trousers: too much materiel went into making them, loud, flashy, "look-at-me" & a fashion that will change at some point. Quietly self confident people don't need to send messages out, they just crack on quietly.

Of all my watches, the OP was the most difficult to get from my AD! Cheers!

Love love love the 124300!! Do you like the proportions of the 41mm?! It’s of course too large for me, but it looks sooo cool on a larger wrist!
Omg. I was looking at one of my videos from a while back while I was healing and I thought “WHY WAS I MAKING VIDEOS OMG!!” 🤣🤣🤣 gosh! I was just soooo bored! Hahaha. But it’s amazing how quickly the body heals! Now you wouldn’t even know that 3 months ago I was quite immobile!

Own the previous gen 34mm with silver 369 dial. Absolutely love it - the perfect GADA. It wears great on guys with mid to small wrists too. Many guys overlook anything under 36, which is a shame.

I own a Rolex Perpetual Oyster Zephyr, and it is simply the most beautiful and capable watch you could own. It is Chronometer standard (as tested), an outstanding dial and case design, and it is a delight to wear and own. It cost me 'peanuts' on a Danish Auction website, and I love it. I use it as a 'daily wear', but in 'concert with', 'not wearing anything', and my LeCoutre 'Futurematic' which is a totally different style of watch, but perhaps my favourite.

Have this 124200 in bright blue. The inky blue dial is amazing. I’ve got a 6.3” wrist and the 34mm is about perfect. Only thing I might slightly change is slightly thicker lugs. Like 19 to 15mm taper. Instead of the 18mm to 14mm here.

First, I want to say that I'm glad to see that the recovery is going well for you Britt!!
Second, the snobbery is what holds me back from getting a Rolex. To judge someone for their choice of a material item is insane. In addition, mocking someone's financial status for what they bought is just plain pretentious.
Third, the Rolex OP is like a well tailored navy suit. It's boring on the surface but it will stand the test of time.
Finally, my boring and unsung hero in my watch collection would be the Vaer D4 Solar Diver. A black, no date dive watch is a textbook example of a boring watch. However, that design has stood the test of time. It is versatile and will never look out of place.

The blue dial OP 41mm is my favorite. Super quality and not "overdone". I hate date windows on my watches and like the simplicity on the dial, but with very clear indices and minute/hour arms. Only thing I would wish for is superluminova on the second hand (like on a diver), but it is absolutely not a deal breaker.

Thanks for going to bat for the OP. Mine has a blue dial and the Arabic numbers like the Explorer. I wore a Rolex submariner for over 50 years and sold it, as I don't dive anymore. The OP was the replacement watch of choice. I've had it for over 3 years now and am very happy with it. I am also not a date watch person. My submariner didn't have one either.

When I purchased my datejust, I had a choice of the Wimbledon, White dial or Grey plain bezel. These were brand new retail prices. I chose the grey dial as I considered it to be the under the radar Rolex. If I had to go down to a one watch collection. I would choose my Green dial 1959 style Alpinist SPB249J1.

I agree @Britt Pearce. Hankered after the 39mm Explorer 1 for ages but couldn't bring myself to pay over retail, so had my name down for the 41mm OP black dial. When the 40mm Explorer was announced I changed to that - expected a long wait, and my impatience very nearly turned me back to the OP. I was fortunate to get a call on the Explorer much sooner than expected, but even on collection day I started second guessing myself over the OP! Stuck to my guns and love the Explorer, for all the same reasons you've given for the OP - understated, simple, classic, and can easily be a one watch collection. If that's boring, I'll take it!

I just love both the Explorer and OP. Very understated but classy sports watches. Since I consider both Rolexes well outside my price comfort zone, I scratched my Explorer and OP itch by purchasing a very nice 34mm Hamilton Jazzmaster with black dial and an excellent Nivada Grenchen Super Antarctic with a Soprod P024 auto movement. Both well within my price comfort zone. I am content knowing that I can still afford a half-caff-decaf venti vanilla bean latte topped with gluten free organic whipped cream while admiring my Super Antarctic and Hamilton Jazzmaster.

OP is not boring, it is the explorer that I find boring. I am not financially well off to obtain a Rolex OP yet but I have a Pagani Design PD 1690 in Orange and that is a homage for OP orange. Whenever I look at I feel happy. It is symmetrical , no dates, no numbers , no headaches and it gives you that head space to feel peaceful and to admire the beauty of simplicity. Looking at my Orange OP homage is like looking at the painting " Flaming June" Sir Frederic Leighton while listening to the song " Flaming June" by BT. Just a wonderful experience. Love it. May you be well and happy.

    Hi Britt,
I probably would have bought this OP in 39mm if it was available in 2016. But it was released a year later. I picked the 114300 with the rhodium dial and the baby blue pips. And I picked it over an Explorer that was available too. But I don’t like the Mercedes hand and I was able to spare 1,000 Euros.
Although the rhodium dial is quite versatile the black OP has the better lume. And it might be boring but kind of classy at the same moment.
    Best wishes,
    Claus

I went with the OP over a Milgauss and Exp2 because it is the PUREST expression of what makes a Rolex great. The brand is practically built on the self-winding, waterproof masterpiece; all you have to do is look at the dial of any of their more “coveted” models and you’ll see OYSTER PERPETUAL. ❤ There’s almost pretentiousness associated with it - it’s simply a durable and accurate timepiece that can be relied on for a lifetime! 😊
Mine is a 2018 116000 with the eggshell dial.

Great video. The Rolex Oyster Perpetual is truly a classic icon. I also like the Explorer, but it's a little too sporty for me. So my favourite version is the OP with the 3-6-9 dial, which looks a bit like the OP and Explorer gave birth to a child.
