Hiya, love watching your videos, I use to live in an 8 birth static caravan and loved it, it was only 5yrs but my 1st son was conceived there and i truly wished we still lived there, and now I'm alone but I'm not sure if the sites still there but I'd love to live back there, it would feel like home again but minus the girlfriend and son, but yea I'd give anything to live bk there, anyway thanks for sharing your videos buddy
Hi Rob, I've recently discovered your blogs and viewed them all. I have a 535 Signature, hull number 193 so the information you put out is very relevant. All Traders were originally supplied with a large A3 sized owners manual which contains drawings of the layouts and diagrams of the services. There should, for example, be a circuit diagram for the fuel system. If you can't find the manual I would ask Trader Yachts to email you the pages. All Traders of that vintage were built to the original owner's requirements so there are many variations between boats. I've found Traders very helpful with advice and they have even sent me pictures of parts of my boat under construction. You need to provide them with the hull number and that is on almost every piece of woodwork in an inconspicuous place. Hope that is helpful. All the best, Stuart.
Hi Stuart, nice to have you along as a fellow owner - I too have the big bound manual however there are areas of what it shows to be rather different in the flesh so to speak because over the years things have been moved about and the previous owner was not the most tidy in keeping paper work so you often find odd bits here and there. I will think about emailing Trader and seeing if they have any history on the boat and can show them these videos. One thing I would be curious about from you, what size (Litre per min and PSI) is your water pump and do you have lower pressure in your galley taps?
Hi Rob, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I've been having fun at the Dusseldorf Boat Show. My water pump is a Jabsco 31620-0092 PARMAX 4 PUMP 12v HIGH PRESSURE. From memory it cuts in at 20psi and cuts out at 40psi. We have no problems with pressure. However, when I bought the boat, the 8 litre accumulator tank was not switched into the circuit and was not pressurised. On my boat it's in the diagonally opposite corner of the engine room to the pump and has its own pressure guage. Once the two isolation valves were opened and the tank pumped up the system works very smoothly. The water supply to the stern washroom shower is t'd off from the supply pipe just before the branch to the galley tap. If the shower pressure is OK have a look behind the cupboards under the galley sink and check that the valves on the sink tap feed are fully open. By the way, our boat also came with a Williams 285 which is now up for sale. We're planning to replace it with a lightweight aluminium-hulled RIB and electric outboard. If you are planning to sell yours you could do worse than drop it off at the Williams dealer on the River Crouch on your way north. Hope this info helps. All the best, Stuart
That seems like a very high amount of kwh for a month. Having read the other comments I think you are taking the best course of action. As regards the rest of your blog, keep laughing,it's the best way. All the best and keep smiling.
hi rob the small white connector in the small locker the top pulls off not turn around. i think that this is a pressuse connector ? next the vellcro use a hairdryer to warm it up then it should come off easier. but nice boat iv watched all the blogs as much as i can and im looking forward to the next instalment, hope the guys get the fuel tanks sorted out ,and hope to see you get up to norfolk.
Another great blog bud .. looking forward to more updates .. we are going on the Broads this June on a boat I think you have been on San Remo .. little bit different to the lovely craft you have there ... all the best ...
Hi Ray, never had San Remo myself but the boat sort of holds something special to me, as many years ago as a child we were going to hire it but remember the day looking over various boats in Richardson's yard and for some reason that stands out in my mind.
The Captain's Blog oh sorry bud, thought I'd heard on one of the blogs you had hired it.. Need my ears sorting... Hopefully my wife will enjoy the broads life on that boat...
Hi Robin great updates very envious with your new purchase. Great looking boat which marina in brundall will it be Tingdene . I am a syndicate owner on Southern Crusader so would be great to catch up in person. I'm on the boat at the beginning of May 6th will you be in Norfolk by then ?
I'd rather not be specific in public about where she will be kept other than Brundall. All being well she will be in Norfolk by the early February, should sail from Plymouth on 2nd February. Once she is in Norfolk then she won't be getting the use many presume she may because of her size and draft seriously limiting Broads navigation - she is through and through a sea boat.
You must know the boat inside out now but have you actually taken it for a spin, hope you have someone who's competent on the sea when you head to Norfolk because some places can get a bit nasty in the wrong tides and winds along the South coast. Breydon water is like a mill pond compared to the Portland race.
Nope - not taken her out, have had no Survey and until the video where I turned the key and started her up was the first time I had any idea she would even start - which sums up the point of the project to share it all with people so you can see what owning a large boat is about, the pitfalls, costs and so on. Fear not though - this weekend we will be undertaking extensive sea trials for 6 hours to put her and the mechanical systems through their paces. This will then show up any issues that we can then have fixed at Mount Batten Boathouse with whom I have used to go through the systems onboard this week - and so far all seems to be fine, including sorting out the fuel transfer/balance issues. When we come to take the boat up to Norfolk, I will have various crew onboard including an RYA Instructor so I think will have it covered, and as for the Portland Race we plan to be well off the coast to avoid that and then head up towards Weymouth Bay - of course it would be perfect to arrive at this location at near slack water when it is is at its calmest and naturally if the weather is too horrible we won;t be leaving Plymouth to begin. All will of course be filmed as I am sure many an 'Armchair Admiral' will be eager to point out the smallest error we may make or judgement made :)
Yep she has, but was not too happy that I bought it when I could have bought a new build two bed apartment in Norwich for less. She seems to prefer Broad Ambition
The Captain's Blog .....all good ladies the same they don't understand how boats get into your blood great blogs rob looking forward to seing the big voyage
If the marina has cctv can't you not ask to check see if somebody is plugging into you're supply. If their forcing you to pay this bill surly from a legal stand point you can check their cctv. Also don't forget you had the fuel treatment did that bug fuel pump plug into you're supply. But even that wouldn't whack up those kwh that's steep.
I asked them and they asked me to double check the meter readings as per invoice, and compare to my previous meter reading - and it all added up so I have paid and now have also put a security tag on my socket and taken a photo of the meter reading when I left which I will compare and work out how much has been used on my return.
The Captain's Blog robin could they be over charging on the lecky? The office invoice matched the reading on the post doesn't mean to say another boat hasn't plugged in & ran you're bill up.. P.s do you have a Facebook page do those of us you cannot wait for the blog but want to keep upto date?
As I have said in a previous reply to a comment, as I am not going to be there for much longer I am not worried about the electric as would cause more issues to go on about it with the Marina and since I have not paid for the berth as it is I am on to a good thing anyway. No I don't have a Facebook page to like for updates, but should you want to read more behind the videos you can read my write ups on www.ybw.com/forums/index.php and forum.norfolkbroadsnetwork.com - searching 'Independence' should find the relevant threads
I'm kinda gutted. I thought you were going to do a " This is what a take away curry, from an award winning curry house, looks and tastes like" and then do a review. I'm on a diet at the moment, though, so it's probably just as well that you didn't.
The cost of your electricity consumption is baffling. Could you request a smart meter from the energy supply company, so that they charge you directly, in a marina?
Marian's do not operate like that, they get the electric supplied to them and cannot 're-sell' it on to berth holders for an inflated amount (for then they would need to be an energy supplier buying in electric from the grid and re-selling it) - I see o real reason why anyone near me would want to steal my supply in all honesty, and even if they did, they too would have to be going some to use 495 Kwh in 30 days. Since I am going to be gone from the Marina in just over two weeks I am not going to fret over the bills, but will keep an eye on things at the new Marina especially as there one has to buy cards and 'top up' the berths meter. I will also get a Kwh meter at some stage on the boat to keep track of my actual usage and from this be able to see what uses what when running, such as the dishwasher or electric oven
