    All the best in your new home Robin. As I understand it the reason that the lights are near the window, was so that if somebody was undressing in the bedroom their silhouette did not show on to the curtains or windows.

    I feel from your voice a touch of nostalgia, which is good.. I've just bought a Trader 535 'Fair Trader' in Spain she's being shipped to Greece where I'll pick her up and bring her Cyprus as my live aboard, your videos have been so insightful, sincere thanks, I'll miss them, best wishes for your future

    Congrats on becoming a landlubber again! I wonder how long you'll find yourself crouching down as you enter a room, or feeling the house swaying!

    I'm deeply envious because moving off a boat means you don't have any furniture to shift. On the dark side, you will now be knee deep in builders, decorators, carpet fitters, Griff doing the tiling, good grief! But seriously, all the very best, Robin. Once again, thanks for your engaging and often thought provoking video diaries - I do hope your mojo for creating these returns full throttle. Hamba kahle.

    Hi Rob, I've watched your blogs for sometime with great interest and have myself enjoyed boating on the Broads. I am retired having completed over 30 years HGV driving. I've always enjoyed your vids and will keep watching for more adventures on Trixie
    Just to help your knowledge for your new home, the lights in any bedroom are always over the windows so that anyone outside can't see you without your attire so to speak. That way you create a light screen across the window whereas if the light fitting was in the middle of the room you would illuminate the whole area including yourself. I find it strange too as most people have things called curtains Lol.
    Just as a further point of interest, the downstairs in most houses are in the middle of the room. So it's all about modesty in the bedroom in case you forget to draw those curtains ! This is just another house build anomaly in good old Britain.
    I wish you well in your new land adventures and look forward to the next episode.

    Congratulations on the house and loved the "House Review". Said to see Independence go. I bet it will be like saying goodbye to a loved one when you finally sell her. Well you've still got Trixie and Broad Ambition to keep your hand in on the Broads though. All the best with the house projects.

    Hi Robin, sorry to see you are saying goodbye to "Independance" but hope to see you onboard "Broad Ambition" and "Trixie" again soon.

    Thanks Robin for a great vlog, it's a shame that you're leaving the beautiful ship Indepenence but the new house looks great. It would be good to see a vlog about living on a boat and it will be great to see you improving the house also. One good thing for you will that you'll be able to get back to your skills of filming and editing vlogs as you were excellent at not too long ago. Be it car trips, boat trips or generally what you and Sheila have been doing hopefully you could manage it from a new land based home. Take care and all the best. Stevie

    You want a good bed and sound advice and not ripped off , contact the Bed Shop in Harleston. Not sure of the name of the place but you cannot miss it. Can park outside. They are on line. Will miss you Robin on the boat, sad really. Sad also that we never got to see her in person. This is an exciting time , how lovely all that shopping for nice things. You could eventually replaced those wooden balustrades with the lovely glass panels you can get now. Would open it up. Hylander. Get rid of that hideous patterned glass. We had that in our bungalow and could not wait to get shot of it. So 1950s.

    Hey Robin, how's about doing wifi light switches in the lounge? Will fit the existing switch plate and just a small WiFi relay unit in each light? Very cheap and effective 👌

  • @jonnyjones5201

    If I'm honest i was expecting something with a riverside garden 😄
    P.s lights on the wall in the living room, why not replace them both with lights with switches built inn.

    • @TheCaptainsBlog
      @TheCaptainsBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Two streets away from a river actually 😁
      And I thought the same - but would prefer the ‘top light’ off and wall lights on, rather than the wall lights off (switchable) and top light on still. I think the easy solution is bing in some warm white LEDs that are dimmable - and have a dimmer switch for LEDs so I can have them all toned down. Lots to do abs think about but first thing is bed, everything else can wait. Also I’m far closer to my Mum here which is handy along with the fact I can still get to the Broads in under two hours.

    I don`t agree the garden has got out of control, it`s what many would say "well established", with mature plants and shrubs. The only thing it needs is the lawn being mown and trimmed. Some of the shrubs need a minor prune, but generally, your garden is done.

    • @TheCaptainsBlog
      @TheCaptainsBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My mother would agree with you there too - I’m not so sure because I am not a a garden type - I won’t go mad removing plants, but some will go (pond too) and then have a more manageable plot. I usually pop out into a garden for a few minutes then go indoors again cos either too hot, to cold, raining or dark which leaves a short window of opportunity lol

    I was told that lights by windows was an attempt to mimic the effect of natural light.

    • @chequer1986
      @chequer1986 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lights are by the window so that you can’t see the person in the room from the outside because the light is in between rather than above

    Regarding the Trader...how Negotiable is the Price ?

    • @TheCaptainsBlog
      @TheCaptainsBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Put it like this, if you offer £40k under asking as someone did the answer is a no. But I’m also reasonable £229,500 gets you the boat. (NYA valuation is £249,950) www.nya.co.uk/boats-for-sale/trader-535/

    • @TheCaptainsBlog
      @TheCaptainsBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Won’t be alone there for too long as hopefully Shiela can also re-locate her job up there too. But in all honestly I don’t get bored or lonely which is why am happy to have been on the boat or going boating solo a great deal over the years.
