Thanks Robin for a great update as to where you are up to, shame about the cars as volvos are normally hundreds of miles mile munchers but when neglected anything will fail eventually. I hope that you and Sheila are doing well, good luck with the sale of the boat and the move into your new house. Take care and all the best. Stevie

Nice to hear from you Rob, best wishes for the relocation for yourself and Sheila ,hope Mum is o.k. You have hit upon a tender spot regarding Volvo V70 's ,having had some expensive experiences with these vehicles ,ahem. Going back a few years ,by the way ,I ran a garage for 24 years ,retired last July. But ,having ran a superb Volvo 850 T5 for a number of years ,which was a fantastic car(estate) ,when you consider they used to race these things ,(check Jason Plato ),it was a marvelous car. But ,it was, a tad thirsty. So ,I decided to go V70 diesel. A colleague of mine ,a car dealer ,but largely honest ,!,sold me a 2002 mk 2 v70 d5 ,and it was excellent for 30 odd thousand miles ,until ,the aux. belt frayed (due to a chunk of metal coming away from the p.a.s. pulley. The frayed aux belt then rode under the cambelt and ,basically destroyed the engine. So I was a bit pissed about this. Anyway ,I acquired a secondhand engine and fitted that. Trouble with that was when stripped ,the clutch was worn ,so we had to replace that ,also with dual mass flywheel assembly (not cheap ),and so on and on ad nauseam-------. Eventually the great day came ,and away we went along the M42 ,(Rob ,you have to experience this road to hell ,it is er ,mind boggling ).To cut a long story ,or ,short story long ,the bloody turbo failed on the maiden voyage .I reflected upon this in the pub. (You could then),so I persevered and replaced the turbo .not cheap.. Anyway ,the following week ,we went to Cornwall to stay with relatives there. Okay ,went well ,but when I totted up the bill ,having done the work myself ,I came to the conclusion that was the most I had ever spent on any vehicle. When I retired 6 months ago ,I bought myself a Lexus 250 ,always fancied one because I used to maintain several for different customers ,they never ever went wrong ! So ,in two weeks time ,I shall be driving this beautiful car to Richardson's ,to take over Moon Enterprise on May 4th. Don't get me wrong ,the Volvo ,when going well ,was a great car ,very economical and comfortable.! But cost me lots ! Love to see you sometime on the river All the best ,Tel.

Hi Rob, great to see you on line again with exciting news. Did you give up on the lorry driving plans? Have you any other ideas for your future occupation, it's great to be able to share your plans with you. Thanks for the vlog, John

Wishing you and Sheila happiness in your new home. Unfortunately Robin there are unscrupulous M.O.T testing places out there, I don't drive but I know a couple of people who regularly get bent, 'genuine' test certificates, one doesn't even have to take his car in, unbelievable eh!

Hope your back on the water soon and reviewing some more hire craft. Myself and my wife will be hiring from Broomcraft on 10th May for our first experience handling a boat, so should be interesting...! We have a Broom Captain for a week and will be touring the southern rivers down to Beccles and back. Any tips for my first time since I was a 12 year old with my parents and have you ever experienced the Broom Captain ??

Really enjoy your vlogs. Have you enjoyed owning this boat, or has it brought more joy or just expense etc?

The boat honestly has not cost a fortune to run - it’s had the odd issue here and there, and the engines cost about £1,000 for a full service. But the biggest cost has been the moorings, Tolls, and insurance - that’s close on £6,500 a year. Then you have electricity which has been running in wintertime at about £25 a week. I realised this is costing me more than running an average home annually. So that’s why the move not because I was tired of living onboard.

Just think how much you're gonna spend on doing up that beater v70 including purchase 5k, you would have been better using a budget of 5k in the first place and got a better v70 🤦🏻‍♂️

You’re right and wrong. I inherited money and that went towards the purchase of independence. My other investments and income streams fund the other boats and my day to day expenses.
