Man, knowing the warriors of chaos has THE BIGGEST roaster out of everybody and still using valkia 50% of the time paired up with 6-8 skirmish cav really makes me sigh again and again

Oh my gosh, what a game! It was incredible watching it play out in phases like that - the cautionary skirmishing at the start, and the patience of the Dark Elf player being tested as Valkia established the missile cav on the points. Then the big ole scrap as both sides committed, and finally the desperate last stands and frantic scramble to claw the last few points in.
Right up to the end I couldn't tell who was going to win. Phenomenal match.
Love seeing great games from presumably unknown players! Really shows how much depth MP has despite how much it gets largely ignored from CA
It mostly gets ignored because only roughly 3% of the player base touches it (PvP). CO-OP is slightly higher at like 7% so as a resource allocation thing it makes sense to mostly sideline it.

I’m happy to knock CA. The reason PVP is so low is coz they make no effort to support it. There’s potential for PVP popularity to massively increase with chat, maps and servers. It’s just short sighted. The amount of times I just end up playing the stupid AI because I don’t have time to to go hunting for an opponent on Discord or can’t be arsed with the lack of chat and lag in multiplayer rooms is depressing. Meanwhile, CNC manage to host a great Red Alert PVP community and portal for a 20 year old game, even though they are just volunteers! It’s nuts!! So much untapped love for the game being squandered.
@@Posdnoid No it's not because low effort. It's because this has always been the average player engagement with the PvP multiplayer. Shogun 2 had the highest in the history of the series with Clan wars and a larger focus on MP and that only ever hit about 7% of the player base.
Keep in mind 80% of players ONLY auto resolve battles on Easy difficulty the entire game. About 10% of the community plays on hard or above about 2% play Very Hard and less than 1% play legendary. These are stats they released near the end of TWH2 at some point from my memory might be off a few %.
But overall to even get a good competitive MP scene going you would need all those Hard or above players to suddenly start playing it constantly. That's not going to happen. Many play modded and don't want to play Vanilla (Splitting the community further). Additionally plenty of those people will have no interest in PvP multiplayer.
Personally I am capable of playing Multiplayer I have the micro ability to play it. I Just hate the balance of the Vanilla game and prefer SFO. Reason being the fact that even if I did play it the problem is you basically can never use anything but chaff; because elite infantry and other fun units are just going to get instantly killed by magic or ranged units.
Also comparing this game to Red Alert isn't a good comparison because Red Alert from the Ground up was intended as a PvP game. Where as Total War is Single Player First.
@@DeadlyGrub Yep, let’s just give up on making the multiplayer game experience decent and building a multiplayer community 🙄 Even if the majority play solo, there are still tens of thousands of people who would love it if just a bit more effort was put into creating an averagely good way to play multiplayer with simple changes like chat and decent maps. If the game developer doesn’t make multiplayer easy snd rewarding then obviously people will stick to solo (across all total war games) and many, like me, will be forced to stick to solo even though they really want to play more PvP. Which is deeply irritating and short sighted as its potential additional revenue stream for CA too. It just needs a bit more vision and effort. As for using chaff - that’s less often the case now, since certain spells got nerfed. You just can’t have a whole army of elite and have to think very carefully about how and when you use it, which makes sense. Check out Turin’s latest video for a perfect example of more elite units being used to get a win. One thing I would praise CA for is mostly balancing such a HUGE range of units and factions (apart from the odd silly/intentional mistakes they make each update (like the dwarf balloon nonsense). I’d also praise everything else about the game. It’s just such a crying shame that the joy of human v human is so under utilised. Especially when the Ai is so lacking in intelligence.

Great video! So to your point about troops moving faster in column formation, I believe that was an actual feature in Napoleon Total War. Infantry moved fasters in columns and slower in a line. The idea was to move the units into position in columns then pull them into a line to engage in battle

Yeah, its pretty lame that his Dragon has the same Stats as the Generic Lord Mount. He´s the Factionleader after all.
Given the factions they selected for the next DLC, it really feels like this should be the "MULTIPLAYER UPDATE". Who better to put in a DLC backed up by smacking people in the face than Greenskins, Ogres and KHORNE?!
Given about 3% of the playerbase touches pvp multiplayer this is highly unlikely.

@@jonathankelly4222 The game has always been a single player title. Even when they put a large amount of effort into the MP IE Shogun 2 when it had the largest multiplayer base it was still only about 7% pvp multiplayer and they put a lot of effort into that with the clan wars ect. Roughly about 80% of players auto resolve like every single battle. The skills required to play the MP version of these battles is absolutely daunting for many. Not to mention you have to build weird because of units basically filling entirely different rolls and things being unviable example elite infantry so on and so forth. The learning curve from SP to MP is too high is the base problem that will never change. This is only amplified because TWH is so complex with magic in addition to all the normal units.
They have the data from when they started doing all this from ages ago and they know where they can put the effort and where they just get it working. And the PvP multiplayer is defiantly the biggest case of just get it working and tune it every once in awhile. Domination mode was a big surprise along with simultaneous turns with 3 in general. That was likely the biggest changes we will see to it unless the popularity of the MP scene skyrockets to above 25% player base.
@@jonathankelly4222 EXACTLY! Many people don’t play it coz support for it is sooo shocking! I’m DYING to play more PvP but I’m often too busy with work and life to engage with Discord groups. So I just need a decent PVP portal where I can jump in and out for quick PVP games with chat functionality and minimal lag issues. Simples. Or so you would think 😤

What was up with Malekith's attack animations when he killed Valkia? I thought the dragon had a longer pause between attacks, or is there something special with Malekith?

Too expensive for what it can do, useful only if you're going very specific counter builds with him as center piece. Supreme Sorceress can perform the same or even better with versatility for more builds but for so much cheaper, like 1000g cheaper. You can do a lot with 1k surplus that'll have a much bigger contribution than fielding Malekith. Iirc Malekith was nerfed to oblivion after TWWH2.
How in the hell has CA still not made a "home/away team colours" system with regards to faction banners that look to much alike? It's basic UI shit!
