Absolutely right- Glad you went first so I could decide the line to take! Awesome day of driving, we packed a lot in. We camped slightly west of the homestead near the river (north of the main track), you would have driven past us. Wonnangatta is magical and I'll definitely go back to do the high track with you next time. Great video mate😬

Thx Dan, was a great first trip with you and Paul, looking forward to October!! That area of the high country is just awesome you get everything, river crossings, mud, huge open valleys, massive hill climbs, scary drop off's on the side of the tracks, and great views to distract you!!! :-)

The top track is pretty easy going. Bit slippery when wet, but rocky and no bog holes.
We rarely use the lower track.
    Thanks for sharing

Herne Spur is a really nice steep one, however, you wouldn't be able to get up it if wet!! Keep the vids coming Jason, very enjoyable. Thanks

thx mate, yeah heard that about Herne Spur and definitely been warned not to attempt when wet! Glad you enjoyed this one!

You will love the Herne spur track , nice and steep .

My first trip through Wonnangatta was was about 20 years ago in my Jackaroo - we had planned to go up Herne Spur but were told that a Pajero had not made it and people were killed a few days before. We opted for Wombat Spur instead which was fun enough. Still haven't had the opportunity to go up Herne but have camped on the river at the bottom of it. Camped at a good spot on Pioneer Racecourse.

@@einfelder8262 Wow, we've always got to show respect to steep tracks and take care. Amazing how many rollovers there have been in the last 12 months on Blue Rag and Billy Goats.

    Great video thank you Jason,
The top track is quicker and dry ,
the low track is always wet, boggy alot of clay as you know. I’ve seen unprepared vehicles stuck in that mud. The only time I use that Track is to camp next to the river, some isolated, beautiful camping spots hidden away.👌.
Can’t wait for the next episode , Humphrey River track can get very boggy real quick

Thx mate, as always appreciate your insight. Touch wood never been stuck on the wonnangatta track but have seen others caught out, of course I don't purposefully drive into some of the huge bog holes either, that'll do it most times. :-) Humffray river is as scenic as ever but lowest water I've ever seen.

yep we usually take the high track. usually because we have enough challenges and driving ahead with herne spur, down into eaglevale and up billy goat. its a long drive out heading to melb. 🙂

Another great vid mate. The top track is like a highway compared to the lower one which is getting really chopped out now as you saw

    • @OffTheBeatenPathAus
      @OffTheBeatenPathAus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thx mate will have to check out the highway sometime. Might have to do a trip over selwyn, haven't been there in a while and come in on the full length of humfray river and back out via Herne Spur or something.

Yeah, I’ll avoid the lower track, f@&k the mud and shit.
    Good episode Jase.

too many of you have much more common sense than me. While I'll drive around (usually) the big car swallowing bog holes, I don't mind a bit of much to add to the challenge.... I try and remember that when cleaning the car post-trip.

I mostly do the high track as sloppy mud is an enemy of under body components .
