That fighting scene at the beginning of the movie makes this one worth while. We normally have to wait for the last five minutes before we see action like this.
Northern legs( John liu) and rubber legs( hwang jang lee) 2 of the best kickers alltime!!! NO DOUBTS!!! My 2 faves all time anyway!! LEE top 3 villains alltime..along with...LO LIEH..WANG Lung WEI👍
i know it seems like sacrilege but thes two were two of the great screen -kickers of their time and this was an early showcase of cheoreography from YUEN WOO-PING!!
John Liu is very flexible and can hold his leg in the air for long periods of time. Hwang Jang Lee,is great with his legs when it comes to different styles of throwing a kick. Casanova Wong kicks well but doesn't have that ability to hold his leg in the air in comparison. Tang Tao Liang (aka Flash Legs) is a very good kicker ,also fast,but can kick mostly with his left leg. Love to watch those guys
No Derrick Lyles, I love it and wanted to, but had time for either martial arts classes or going to the gym. I chose the gym and taught myself a little in kicking. I love Tae Kwan do, that's why I'm such a fan of those guys in my initial comment.
keston boatswain Sun Chien, Kwan Young Man and Tiger Yang are three V good kickers also. Spot on with your analysis of those guys. One of my favourites is the incredible Hwang Inn Sik.
Do you remember the Bootmasters Homepage that had a bio on all these Hong Kong cinema superkickers and some of them even had a highlight reel video on the bio?
In reality it's obvious that Master Hwang is the "stronger" kicker. Notice once the action starts John Lui almost always backs up during their fight sequences even though he's matching Hwang kick for kick. Both men show great flexibility however Hwang Jang is flexible AND powerful ! He also exhibits a more extensive repotoire. That fight scene of these two martial artists is a visual treat. They both conducted a choreographed fight stunt clinic of how it's done when one bring together two Masters of their caliber !

I always thought Liu bore a weird resemblance to Mickey Dolenz of the Monkeys. In my fanzine we ran a cartoon of Tan Yao Liang (a left footer) fighter John Liu who was really mostly a right footer when he choreographed himself. In the cartoon they had accidentally tied their legs up in a big bow in the middle of the fight.
hwang jang lee always was villain but he was the best of best including a certain bruce lee. his few acting skills were passed to him, he just had to kick butts and keep his mouth shut and there he was second to none.
I have a dressing gown like Hwang Jang Lee.... but mine has bumps in the front! I also have long dark hair like him!.... And I still can't move like that!!!!
Those bumps are called goblets,great weapons for offense, defense and distraction, you are more lethal with that without being able to move like Hwang Lee.lol

Thus one is close to being the fight I've always wanted to see between Liu and Hwang, who for.my money is the best leg man ever to come out of the east . Com still looking for the perfect Hwang/Liu fight though. It's still so hard to get hold of the early m/a flux you really want to see.

@@JLee-fx8zd That's false news. I have seen his pics from recent years. He is living a happy life with his family. I am in touch with one of his friends who worked with him in Trinity Goes East. John Liu was also contacted by the team who released his 1984 film New York Ninja in 2021.
