Copper Beech's Youth Mindfulness Program

  • Through our youth work, we introduce students to the nervous system as though it’s a car with a brake and gas pedal. We show them the power of breath and instill a core memory of empowerment. Emotions are explored as big and small, and as a bodily experience that benefits from time and awareness. We see youth self-identify the “monkey mind” and begin to understand the role choice plays in building a sense of Self. Time and again, we witness the moment when the practice of mindfulness leaves a tender spot - a deep sense of connection to practice - like family. Thank you to our recent partners for helping us serve hundreds of youth, staff, and parents. See what we can do for your organization by visiting us at copperbeechinstitute.org.

It starts with little examples like ones presented in this classroom . It’s being aware , being present , just being ! I love exposing kids to this way of being ! Starting young can do so much for planting seeds of mindful learning !!

Connecticuting with the present moment... back to the breath. Importance of breath. Mindfulness bottle symbolism... loved the visual ahha moments. That ills perfects!
So resonates. I will facilatr and do practices with my students in school too.

I think one of the most powerful demonstrations to use with kiddos is the cloudy bottle. They really get it concretely and it helps them to connect.

I can't wait to show this video to my daughter. We meditate at bedtime but when I try to encourage deep breathing at times when she is upset or worried, she refuses. I think watching this video and the other older kids do it will help motivate her to do so, too. Thank you!

As a 60yo who's interested in learning about Mindfulness, it was awesome to see youngsters being taught. They all seemed very engaged and wanted to learn more. I actually watched the video twice. 5:39 Kudos to you!

I wish this was taught more in the schools, especially with the stresses that children face today...

I taught Mindfulness at the school I worked in for a couple of years and saw first hand how powerful it was for so many kids.
I had a parent who initially asked me to exclude their daughter from the sessions because the parents thought it was against thier religious beliefs. I convinced that parents to come in and look at my mindfulness curriculum, they granted me that and once they saw what I was teaching allowed their cild to participate.i encouraged my kids to share their practice with their families and those who did said their parents sat with them at home..
