One of the last times we'll get to see Nine Inch Nails live.... From the Waving Goodbye tour, US leg. This particular show was held at the Starlight Theatre, in Kansas City, Missouri.
Trent and Co. rocked the effin' venue to its foundation!
His vocal performance in Now I'm Nothing gave me goosebumps! He doesn't usually sing like that.
i love your videos! and this always gives me goosebumps too. i listen to it when im feeling down.
i'm watching this performance for years now repetitive. And i always wish that there would be a studio version like this. But i'm hoping this performance still be online the next 10 years. It always gives me goosebumps.
You should do a short analysis of Now I’m Nothing on your channel
He literally ALWAYS sings it like that.
Its amazing how he can make new music and reveal a different style than before each time
Imagine going your whole life with out “getting” (understanding to a degree) Nine Inch Nails. A moment of silence for all the people that think “oh yeah Trent is that Closer guy”.
once you get to “the fragile” you’re basically hooked, at least that’s how i got into their entire discography, i even found myself getting really into bad witch for some reason.
🤭 Really though. Poor saps.
It'd be more accurate for them to say "Oh yeah, he's the 'fuck you like an animal' guy"
His lyrics are so intelligent - so aware of the varieties and vagaries of human suffering (with some joy, too). I feel I’m presently living in a non-joyous set of NON songs the snippets of tne lyrics popping unbidden into my conscious brain … such a balm for my own pain. HE has said (as I imagine you know full well): “music saved my life.”
GOD I WISH THERE WAS AN ALBUM VERSION OF NOW IM NOTHING
Soundcloud. Search 'Conscious Entity Sound'. Just uploaded a cover....
@@ConsciousEntitySound nah we want an official one
@@ConsciousEntitySound we dont wanna hear you singing it jesus
dad, why is my sister named rose?
because your mother loves roses, son
thanks, dad
no problem, Trent Reznor's vocal delivery on the NIN|JA 2009 version of Now I'm Nothing
LMAO
I don’t get it?
Had first real laugh after a month of depression, thx dude
@@tomaskopic2469 keep goin' bruh
🤣🤣 best comment ever
After all the Oscar's, Grammy's, and induction into the RnR hall of fame, Reznor is still one of the most underrated & important humans of my generation. Culturally
Thats true...
He's been my idol for 30 years, regardless. Admire his strength to stay off the drugs and other crap. Rock on trent
Best live band ever. Every single song is 100%.
Agree bro!!!
Preach that shit
Absolutely.
Yep
p ,,
I love this song and the singer. But if you watch the background.....OMGosh...they have like the best drummer. He goes bonkers and kills it! Kudo's to him. He's awesome. 🙂
Love him
Now I"m Nothing is such a beautiful song. Wish it was played more often
Here you go)
Terrible Lie isn't quite as violent as it was in 1994, but for a man approaching fifty, that was pretty fucking badass.
James Beil not to mention how much sexier he is now vs then!
James Beil It's basically a soundcheck for him, bro.
yea bro right on
You should check Terrible Lie on LITS Tour. Fucking amazing.
He’s also not hopped up on drugs and beer like at woodstock
Offended at myself for only just now finding this, however the vocal range during Now I'm Nothing? This man is so unbelievably talented.
The original 1991 live is even better
I love the noise the crowd makes after around 1:17, they're all simultaneously like "whoa"
I get shivers every time I hear TERRIBLE LIE! Going on 30+ years of shivers now!
I remember seeing NIN open with this song on the Lollapalooza Tour. Such a raw, emotional, beautiful song! Tho he doesn’t have the same “desperate anger” he had back then, it’s still such an awesome song!!!
I've been looking for it ever since then, now I found it!
i let it slip away; now i'm nothing
damn that's so powerful.
any live rendition of terrible lie just ends up bringing a tear to my eye by the end. the addition of now i'm nothing is just what it needed. very lucky to have gotten to see this live
It's amazing how stellar PHM songs sound live, the old clips of down in it are something else
Nine Inch Nails will always be my favorite. The NIN machine must go on!
NIN are immense. In a GaryNuman interview he says, with a laugh..."Trent was asked to write a soundtrack for a film. And wins an Oscar!". The guy is on a higher level than anyone I've got into and I am a top musician who picks the music apart. I still say Jerome Dillon is THE NIN drummer. Freese was spot on machine drummer (which oddly didn't suit NIN so well), Ilan Rubin is a fantastic drummer (ambidextrous he told me when I asked because his style is strange) and so I learned how to drum left and right handed and owe him a debt of gratitude for this...it really opens the kit up. But Jerome Dillon is the ’art' that live NIN works best with. I'm a guitarist and synth bod...mainly because of NIN in 1989 at the Astoria in London.
would love to maybe talk ideas im a front man, vocalist best wishes
Monsieur Halloween...is that request to me? I could do with a vocalist. I do everything else but didn't win the voice lottery. An irony that the music gods will have to deal with when I see them. Fuckers! Beethovens Ghost on SoundCloud for old stuff. billson.jamis@gmail.com
NIN need some competition. They don't actually. But why not?
Jamis
Trent just handing his guitar to the tech guy is just very good news for the tech guy. And for the guitar
Well you can't say Trent doesn't have a flair for the dramatic. That entrance was something else, and the wind blowing at that exact moment made it that much more epic.
I went down a rabbit hole of videos pertaining to NIN and crossed paths with this one which I knew I had seen before but never put a comment on. I was at this show, maybe six or seven rows back from where I think this was being filmed with a buddy of mine who died a few years ago. This brought back memories of an amazing concert, drinking beer and singing along with Trent that night. Something I hadn't thought about in a long time. Thanks for recording this.
Actually, I was at the last show performed and Trent made it clear that he would indeed continue to create music under the Nine Inch Nails machine, though he would not be touring as NIN from then going forward.
That being said, he did follow it up with "But who knows what the future holds..."
Well hey, now I'm going to see them tour to Detroit in October, so that answers that.
Yeah...that didn’t last long. Finally got to see them at the Palladium in Hollywood, a few years ago. They were phenomenal.
This is easily my favorite live performance video ever
I was there. This was my son's first show ever.
@@FUKKFACE Your son is extremely lucky to have a dad like you man. I'm insanely jealous of you both.
This was the first time I realized what a great voice he has! 🤘🤘🤘
i have been watching this video over and over for years. thank you for this chaonatic.
Same.
My too
Yes
One of the very few bootleg recordings that aren't shit. Nice.
Bootleg, what?
man, kudos to whoever filmed this. Great angle and absolutely amazing performance.
I wish “Now I’m Nothing” had a proper studio recording.
I like that it's purely a live treat, tbh.
Yeah like Defenders of Fun by Shellac
Best live mixture of these songs. Can't want someone more than this delicious man.
There's a monster on the drums
Animal from the muppets
I’m trying to figure out if that’s Ilan Rubin on drums or if that was before he joined NIN 🤔
Kreepy Kalifornia 9669 ilan
@@MarkRoss-er4yq that’s him he’s been in angels and airwaves now
best now I'm nothing / terrible lie version ever and great Finck solo too. I think I watched/listened to this at least a thousend million times in the past 2 years. congrats!
Now I'm nothing is unbelievable. Always
So glad this was not the last tour. Still kick myself for not driving to Austin for this NIN JA show.
Robin Finck rules
+William Berwick fasho
William Berwick I do miss "Mr. Destructive" Aaron North, though.
Same, I was lucky enough to see him live twice (including the show where he knocked a security guard out). He was was a force of nature on stage. Its sad reading about what happened to him.
agreed
Lol just posted the same thing about Ilan Rubin! His backing band definitely doesn't get the credit they deserve.
Obviously not a final farewell tour! Thank God He's back where he belongs!
Ahh, the 3 most important parts of NIN live shows in one shot: Reznor, Finck, and Ilan Rubin's hair
I didn't realize just how short Trent is. I suppose legends and bad asses come in all shapes and sizes.
He’s 5’6 or 5’7.
HAHAHAHAHHAHA I JUDT LOLLLLED SO HARD TO THIS COMMENY
That show was magical. I was there. It was about to rain and there was a fog and mist that made the lights especially cool. It was like extra smoke for the show. It also have the air a very heavy feeling.
Amazing...always love Reznor, and, the drumming is REALLY good...
Illan KILLS it here
Ilan Rubin is my favourite drummer in the NIN line up
I need more Live NIN in my life. like yesterday.
I would hate to be Reznor's drummer. That dudes got a near impossible job.
Yea I'd hate to make a shit ton of money and bang models too...
and would really hate to be in the greatest band of all time man that’d suck
Ilan Rubin is the fucking man! Bangs ALL the models!
Grateful for the camera zoom at exactly 34 seconds.
The tracks that's playing before Now I'm Nothing starts is The Horrors - Scarlet Fields. Another awesome band TR turned me on to
Seeing Trent mature as a vocalist performing Now I'm Nothing compared to the other rare lalapalooza clip is a treat. Both personal favorites in their own ways.
I remember standing stage side when this started, ohmygod it was fucking amazing
Ich will NIN auch mal live sehen :-(
Terrible lie
If he ever makes a release of this song i need him to sing it exactly like the 1991 live version 😭 or if they can find a high quality audio from the sound booth or something from that day. But really I kinda want him to just make a full fleshed song out of it but sung exactly like the original live. That is just mesmerizing ✨
This is the only decent version of this I can find anywhere
thank you
How does Trent still sound as good as he did 30 years ago?
I think its awesome that I can listen to a song from 89 and love it!
TH-cam algorithm reminding me of this great day.. I was at this show.. side stage VIP behind the bass tech.. badass show.. got meet n greet.. autographs and photo.. Q&A with Trent.. ate backstage catered food..
Best live version of this song
WHY THE HHELL ISNT THIS ON PRETTY HATE MACHINE
It was written after Pretty Hate Machine.
Although they _could_ always include a studio version or just any live version into a rerelease
so head like a hole can blend into terrible lie
Clemente Contreras lol this comment cracked me up. But yes you’re right
It's more of a Broken/TDS song, afiak no studio version exists
It was written as a lead in for live shows, after the album. Much like pinion did for wish during the broken era. It only exists as a live song, and from live recordings. It was indicative of the turning point of a lot of self loathing and anger that came through in broken and extended to the downward spiral.
Wow what a recording I felt like I was there
I WAS there.
2009 was a good year in it's own way of 90's reproductions of soundness...
I have always related to the feeling that Trent is singing about
best recording of now i'm nothing.
Thank you so much for this one...
i cant believe i will never see them live :(
now,im nothing.
This man is a legend. Thank you Trent.
I saw them 2 weeks prior to this performance. A major check on the my band bucket list .
Still loving this genius, in every possible sense of the word….. nothing creepy. GENIUS!🔥
exactly how I'm feeling . love these songs mesh perfectly
Great voice and excellent use of vocal sampling effects
I know dude! sounds great!
This is quite possibly the best recording of this song EVER. I hope you feel special, chaonatic.
@chaonatic you did an amazing job. dont let anyone tell you otherwise. my all time favorite live performance video on youtube.
Not sure if I'm the only one here who noticed, but the drummer is pulling some pretty fucking sweet licks in the last 2 minutes of the song.
God I am gonna miss Trent & co so much, Thanks for 20 fuckin awesome years.
How is it remotely possible that as of today (2/24/2010) this only has 12,536 views??
As usual, GREAT POST!!! Thanks
Holy Sh-t..awesome. thank you for the most bad-ass show I missed in person. Just fuels the need to see NIN live once again, regardless of how difficult to obtain tix.
I love how you can hear Terrible Lie start to creep in around the 2 minute mark.
Powerful performance
I wish Now I'm Nothing was on an album
The man def still got it....he killed this. I love the reckless way he jumps on the Moog....killer
awesome awesome awesome... i cry now... Tren is GOD, genius, my platonic love and the hightest entity!!! his music helped me many times with his music...
Thank for all !
Trent is this kind of singer that I call "true frontman"...And I think that's bloodly true!!!!
In the last minute, particularly, he pulls it off with aplomb!
And we all hold hopes that he does indeed continue to follow the nin pathways into the future
I love Trent's jacket here, and it's really cool to see him handling a guitar close up. He's a master of so many instruments man.
Love this (again and again). My respect for Trent is immense.
fucking badass!!! this is fucking awesome
Love love love
Damn I love the passion
i watch this video a lot. i want to thank you for uploading it.
What a great post...one of the best I have seen.....All I can say is thanks!!
No way, this quality is amazing for just being a bootleg recording. Definately not a waste, very amazing. The sound quality alone is worth it, nevermind the picture quality.
I'd take steady picture over trying to get everyone in the picture anyday.
Soooooooo good....hope they do 'Terrible Lie' in Toronto in Oct.
fantastic footage!
i could weep.
thanks for sharing all this~
yeah, Trent is probably gonna be the only musician I will always wish I could have gone to see live. But life happens and we grow up. Oh well, I'll probably still be listening to him like when I am 70 :) (if I can still hear;)
Randomly stumbled on this comment, hope you've managed to see them live since!!
This is the shit, gotta dig the song 🎵
Love when he goes to play the outro on the synth says "nahh" then continues to go hard on the guitar.
i cant stop watching this. When trent goes high-pitch.... Im awed every time. So Oh So Good
I was at this tour in Denver. Great show
i've seen trent a bunch of times and never got to see now i'm nothing . . . awesome vid
The quality of your videos is amazing ... thank you so much for uploading!

This man is a legend how the hell you singing like that playing the guitar playing the keyboard at the same damn time ❤
@chaonatic You've got some of the best quality videos of NIN on youtube. This video is pure fucking gold.
He was like fucking killing the sound the entire "Terrible Lie" (in a good way)
Good Gods, incredible. Just.... epic. Thank you for all your uploads (Yea, I'm sure it was a ...hardship..to take the time to see a Master)
1:39-2:00...
