- Our family spent this past week at Lake Placid, enjoying some well deserved down time. We were so Blessed to have spent time with Art and Janelle, and their beautiful family from the Parsnips & Parsimony Channel. Over the course of the week I felt a real connection to my mom who recently passed, and that has made it easier to move forward and make memories that will last a lifetime with my own family. I feel like I can finally exhale, and move forward. OX Shelby

Oh goodness Shelby, you brought me to tears with your sweet sentiments about your mom. I lost my mom in 2007 to a 10 year battle with Alzheimers and I know how hard those holidays can be. I never got to Lake Placid but it's on my list of places I'd like to visit, having grown up and lived most of my life in Connecticut, there are just so many places I long for and wish I had visited before moving here to California, busy making new great memories here. Thank you for sharing your self so openly with us, it was a little blessing that I needed this evening. :-)
TG You completely understand the challenges of someone living with Alzheimer's, it has to be one of the worst diseases. Ken and I visited Mystic Sea Port about 20 years ago, it was so beautiful. We had such a great time in Connecticut on that trip. If you ever get to Lake Placid it is worth the trip. God Bless Shelby

I believe this may be my favorite blog of yours. I must have missed the passing of your mom Shelby. I am so grieved for your loss. My mom would have been 81this past May 15. She died at the age of 63. I miss her every day. God bless you as you heal. Love you Shelby.

Oh Shelby, I love this video so much. You have made me so homesick though. I grew up in Northern NY. We spent a lot of time in the Adirondacks, both as children and adults. Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake. My boys had many hockey tournaments in those 3 towns. They got to play in both Olympic Arenas which was such a thrill for them. My family still there in NY spend much of there summers on the various lakes and campgrounds there. Thank you so much for sharing and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Can't believe you met Art, Janelle and Family. They have such a beautiful family. I'm sure it was very entertaining spending time with them. Their children are so sweet and enthusiastic about life and learning. Had to laugh at you two chasing them down!!
Nancy Osgood this is Grandma Parsnip--this will be our 44th summer camping on Upper Saranac. The Parsnips will be there for a while with us as well as our son and family. We love making family memories.
Wow!! It's so exciting to hear from you! We moved to Springfield Mo.about 13 years ago but, we try to get home every summer. A lot of my family have camps and campers and boats so there is a lot of summer activities. We are from the Seaway Valley area - Massena. Enjoy your summer and all of those beautiful Grandchildren! We are expecting our second Grandchild in September!
Nancy Osgood are you familiar with Donaldson’s-across from Fish Creek? That is where we camp. From the beach we can see Whiteface. It is such a pristine area and life is slower up there. Have you ever had Donnelly’s ice cream?
Yes Ma'am! Fish Creek and Rollins Pond are favorite area's to camp for my family. I don't remember going to Fish Creek as a child but I guess there was a lot of camping done there when I was child. (I am 60 yrs old now). Most of my childhood memories are from my two aunt's camps on the Grass River in Madrid NY. Those were sold many years ago and the Adirondack camping began again.
Nancy Osgood do you still camp at Fish Creek or Rollins? We spend all of July up there and bike ride the creek every nice day.

What a beautiful place. That Lodge, OMG!!!!! The place is gorgeous. The food looked awesome. I'm so glad you had a wonderful time. Remember your mom will always be with you. I love Parsnips & Parsimony too! It was surreal meeting them, apparently we were all staying at the same condos. We got to meet Janelle's parents too, they are awesome. Ken and I hope to have them visit in Cooperstown post Covid.

Looks like just what ya'll needed. I haven't been back to Lake Placid since winter of 1985 when my Dad and I went to watch the flying Finn, Matti Nykänen at the world cup ski jumping event.

Helen the lodge was beyond amazing, I truly had never seen anything like it. Ken and I have 3 boys and an unofficial "adopted" son. So now we are a family of 6. We were ten when my mom, her caregiver and extended family were staying with us to help with mom. Again thank you for all your love and support Helen. :D Shelby

Tina we stayed at Lake Placid Club Lodges. I would recommend getting one near the office so you have good internet. We rented a boat from Capt Barney and he was wonderful to work with. Shelby

You’re filming for TH-cam, instead of just enjoying the day & the lake/ boat ride for yourselves!!
Think about yourself instead of us for a little bit. You do need to completely “unplug” occasionally. {That means unplugging your mind as well!!}
