#LakePlacid, a Steve Miner film about the search for a man-eating, thirty-foot crocodile in a lake in Maine.
Stan Winston and his crew realized Lake Placid’s crocodile as a full-size animatronic puppet - complete with moving head and tail and snapping jaws - that would function underwater. The crocodile was mechanized through hydraulics, which, as had been learned on previous projects, worked fairly well in a water environment, as long as they were protected in waterproof housings and surrounded by water-resistant skin.
“We went into this show with the full knowledge that water always wins,” said Richard Landon, who led the mechanical crocodile design. “That has become my personal motto: Water Always Wins. Water will always break something. Water is the universal solvent. Superglue breaks down in it. Urethane breaks down in it. Paint breaks down in it. Water is a nightmare - and we were in it for a full six months on this show.”

Stupid kool wow that rocks!!
The detail in this is incredible. I'm sure it was a lot easier for the actors to feel fear being in the water with this thing.
Yeah, I'd be pretty perturbed if I was in the water with a model of basically a dinosaur.
Maximum Prank potential...
Maximum jailtime potential.
@@hamsacc it would be worth it😂😂😂

Animatronics can never be replaced by CGI. You can tell CGI right away and that destroys the illusion. Thats why films from the 90s still look good because all the actions were real.
"Ok gents, we're done shooting for the day. Let's get this thing out of the water."
"Uh, sir? The croc was pulled out of the lake an hour ago..."
"Then what the hell is swimming behind us?"
wahahhahhah
That would be a awesome plot twist, if it was in the end, of the movie!
😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
Good script
Guess You Haven't Watch "Primeval" Yet 😅
A Film (Based On A True Story) About This Fierce Man Eating African Nile Crocodile Called "Gustave" 😃
& To This Day, The Crocodile's Rarely Seen But Neither Caught Nor Killed, Just So You Know 😳
Lake Placid's Cool Though 🙂
So realistic. If you try to Prank someone with that. No words for their reactions. 😂😂😂
I can imagine if someone is getting pranked and he is gonna stay still and think
"Damn, im gonna die today😂😂"
Ofcourse not because they would die of a heart attack
Honestly, I would try to do that.
Yes , no words, just words from your dumbass mom
Of course it would all be staged thats youtube now. Lame old staged videos
U have to make many pranks with this.
😄😄😄👍👍🤟🤟That's true gaes, I'm sure.. The people will be very shock, if this the Croc robot for to prank😄😄👍👍, sory my speak english not good🙏🙏🙏😊😊

Lake Placid is one of my favorites. In fact, all of my favorite movies had Stan Winston involved. There will never be another like him. Rest in peace Stan, we miss you.
Lake placid 2?
Regardless of how you may feel about the film, you can't deny that a lot of genuine hard work and creativity went into bringing the film's 'star' here to life. 👍🏻
@@seanking1775 Yeah, it’s a favorite ‘90s creature feature’ flick of mine, too (😊).
Don't care what others say. The casting was fantastic and this was the best crocodile movie ever.
@@mufradhossain9238 😁
Its crazy to think back in history there were actually crocodiles around this size.
A full grown salt water croc can reach 25 ft long if they live long enough. This model is 30ft so not much different
yea Sarcosuchus were this big
@@ivanzonder5228 They were even bigger...!!!
@@eligebrown8998He’s talking about prehistoric crocodiles like deinosuchus and purusaurus.
Deinosuchus is 12 I think this animatronic is more like purrusaurus
The one dislike must've been from an alligator
And from Greenpeace. :P - Balázs

That Alligator is jealous
The alligator got mad , because he is only 10ft. Clearly the one in the video is huge .

As cheesey as Lake Placid is I've always genuinely enjoyed it. I wish these making videos were longer. I love them.
This movie introduced me to Betty White. Over 15 years ago, I was watching monster movies all the time. Lake Placid was one of them. Rest in peace, Betty. Thank you for being a friend, even to a bloodthirsty monster croc😊.
Lake Placid is such an underrated movie. It's a lot more clever than you'd think.
We needed more of this in the sequels other then fake looking cgi
Totally agree
The sequels are so bad they're not even worth acknowledging.
Yes sr
I saw Lake Placid Legacy, it was very awful for fake cgi
Film Companies' Over reliance on CGI doesnt make them realize how fake some of it looks. They think that Practical effects like these are just 90s things.Duh some 90s movie monsters look way more realistic than todays CGI, ever seen the Trex from Jurassic Park 1,i hope they Realize that👌
Oh man i didnt know you guys made the crocodile for this! *.* lake placid is one of my favorite movies
Imagine if a real crocodile saw this I would be damn that’s my best friend
That is truly incredible and makes me want to watch the movie again. I always love animatronics over CGI!
I wonder who got to keep the crocodile puppet.. Totally badass for a man cave or backyard.
No Sleep
Croc is a Paid actor
It’s was destroyed after the movie.
@RICH KID it would have just broken over time
It actually couldn't really be properly stored, it stared deteriorating after just a while I believe.
Lake Placid is defiantly ruler of all crocodile movies. i love it!
Best crocodile movie ever.
A work of art, and to think that there were prehistoric versions of this creature that were ten feet longer!
Yes 40 feet longer like deinosuchus
I miss Stan Winston
I mean, I watched this movie this week and I discovered it has one of the best "special effects" I have ever seen!!! The crocodile looks so real and awesome!!! And you have to take into consideration that it was 20 years ago 💚
That looks amazingly realistic... incredible work!
Talents like this are quickly disappearing because of cgi
Practical effects are still alive! - Balázs
Exactly
@@dakshelpatron he meant the talent of sculpting these realistic animatronic
This is what I miss about my old job working in film! true craftsmen at the top of their game. fabulous video , thanks for sharing . I am also a fan of the movie Lake Placid!
Didn’t expect to get a throw back to lake placid today but seeing the process of creating the big animatronics like this and the JP Dinos are always my favourite 💕
This movie beats every single crocodile movie forever
Seeing this really makes you appreciate the movie a lot more.
Stan Winston and his team are amazing. Such talents.
I saw Lake Placid when I was 6 and I will never be satisfied with today’s CGI and animated movies. I love Lake Placid ❤️🐊
With this size, you can even prank crocs/ gators big time!
Croc: Yo, did you survive the Dinosaur days? You’re freaking huge! Hello? Talk to me!
This is why I'll love more Animatronic than cgi. Animatronic is the best
I would still shit my pants if I saw this in the water even knowing it’s a robot
I want to see a real croc reaction to this massive mechanical croc...😁
Send it into a crocodile habitat!
My dad showed this movie when i was 5, now im scared of water. Thanks dad

The Lake Placid movie series is awesome and Lake Placid 2 is one of my favorite sequels.
I watched this movie at such a young age, that Betty White's character protecting the crocodile and learning why had a huge impact on me.
Wow this is awesome well done Stan Winston School that looks crazy and just illustrates what a Deinosuchus sized crocodile looks like, ridiculously large!
This thing should be made with a prank. You'll make the person shit in the water.
I love crocs. I want one. He looks happy.
imagine putting this is a croc infested pond
you can prank people to death with this croc
Imagine being that one person who didn't know that it was a animatronic piece of art when it was in the lake 😂
right now this remarkable talents, efforts, and hardworking overwhelmed by a few people with computer
The people that really make magic in movies, actors get all the money & credit
This just proves they could have put the Deinosuchus in The Lost World: Jurassic Park
By capturing the screen, someone then make a hoax news, "30 feet croc eating men, captured by fishermen"
Imagine doing a prank with this
Imagine not knowing this crocodile is fake and seeing it swimming towards you.
I'd lose it
Without CGI there will be a bunch of super creative intelligent people
I absolutely love that crocodile in that movie. =)
remember 1999 when the posters of a crocodile grabbing a helicopter caught my eyes, lake placid great movie 😍🙏
This movie was way better than the sequels and the spin-offs.
This animatronic and the animatronic for Rogue are in my opinion the best animatronics in the history of practical effects
This is absolutely stunning! Props to all who helped make this thing
It looks very realistic, it count be a real gigantic crocodile.
Jemand it is that’s why it needs people helping him out
This is what I miss this is the nuts and bolts of the film industry, the list goes on and on from my favorite film of all time Jaws, aliens, gremlins, even some elements of King Kong (1976) practical effects animatronics is what brought my love of film they'll always be a place for CGI but unfortunately this type of talent doesn't exist the ability to create a creature with precise realism my hats off great upload. I will forever enjoy animatronics and practical effects.
You can Prank a Real Crocodile 🐊 With This Toy😂
Man, it may be an animatronic robot, but that thing looks real enough to scare the scales off of smaller, REAL crocodiles, alligators, caymans, gavials..... oh, yeah! And people would get plenty nervous, too!
These films like Lake Placid, Crocodile, Blood Surf were my childhood and when Lolong the "largest crocodile ever caught" I wasnt too thrilled coz of these movies hahahah
Thats why this movie look so real -_- this better than CGI
Compliments from the Kingdom of the Netherlands! 🇳🇱
This is awesome!!! It's so realistic!!! Seriously, the animatronics made by Stan Winston are always so realistic!!
Id shit myself 5 times before it even moves if i see something like this in the water
God that’s so freaking cool that it’s designed so well it can propel itself though the water I wish I could have worked with this lol
The making of the Crocodile 11/10, the film 5/10

That’s was a piece of work. So real looking.
The fact that crocs that grew that big actually existed at one point is insane.
And I’m not just talking about during the Mesozoic.
Some Cenozoic crocodilians could grow that big too.
This is the kinda stuff I stay subbed for! Amazing! Loved Lake Placid, watched it waaay back when it was new!
"1/5 scale maquettes" *is literally the size of the average American crocodile*
1:50 raw footage like this can be so cool
THE CROCODILE LOOKS SO REALISTIC IN THE WATER! AMAZING AND SCARY AT THE SAME TIME!
That would be awesome being used for pranks!
I saw the movie the croc looked real , awesome work
Seeing this in the water would give me a heart attack!!!!!!
i thought the croc was 100% cgi kudos for the guys, really nice work
is it weird that if i’m the artist of this croc, i would get scared too? lmao
Should have made some pranks with that size of a croc. People would probably piss on their pants
1:37 me in literally every stressful moment of my life
That's one big ass alligator
Let me take that to a beach to prank people
Even though I know that crocodile is fake I would still be terrified to go swim and then just seeing that crocodile just come up to me.
This is like version of Jaws
STILL LOOKS REAL AS HECK
This is incredible work.... artistry at its best
